Religion was originally a form of control and law for people, Satanism doesn't give you rules. It never says "You CAN'T do this."
I'm not a Satanist, but I do find their religion interesting and worth researching. Before you judge them you should probably research what they believe. Much like Christianity, they are hated due to gossip.
Satanism is not a strict religious order (as you seem to believe). The Church of Satan (which has nothing to do with true Satanism) however, do. They have The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth, which is a clear set of rules. If you say that you are interested in researching Satanism, the COS, will not give you a proper picture of what true Satanism is.

@elankrylon LaVeyian Satanists do not worship Satan, it's an atheistic philosophy. Satan is just a figure in christian mythology, the draw towards things dark is probably just a rebellion against the sanctimonious trappings of Christianity. It's an inversion of the trappings of the Church.
@elankrylon Good question. As for me, I naturally gravitate toward so-called "dark" subjects and imagery. We identify with the villains in stories, much like the character known as "Satan" that we've adopted as our symbol. Some people do try too hard to appear "dark" or "goth" and feel the need to follow every cliche there is. I've been a Satanist for some time and I don't wear black all the time or listen to black metal. But we're defiant beings and our defiance takes many forms.

Religion was originally a form of control and law for people, Satanism doesn't give you rules. It never says "You CAN'T do this."
I'm not a Satanist, but I do find their religion interesting and worth researching. Before you judge them you should probably research what they believe. Much like Christianity, they are hated due to gossip.

Satanism is not a strict religious order (as you seem to believe). The Church of Satan (which has nothing to do with true Satanism) however, do. They have The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth, which is a clear set of rules. If you say that you are interested in researching Satanism, the COS, will not give you a proper picture of what true Satanism is.

We identify with the villains in stories, much like the character known as "Satan" that we've adopted as our symbol. Some people do try too hard to appear "dark" or "goth" and feel the need to follow every cliche there is. I've been a Satanist for some time and I don't wear black all the time or listen to black metal. But we're defiant beings and our defiance takes many forms.

That's where self mastery come in. That part gets left out a lot but LaVey did emphasis self mastery and reciprocity, there's a difference between indulging your desires and being controlled by them for instance, and in your own indulgence you're supposed to avoid harming others, and expect no pity or mercy if you do.

I don't have really that much to be mad about. I get good appraisals at work. I could get fired tomorrow just like everyone else. I think when it comes down to it, everyone is basically the same, they shit just like everyone else.
