I think the driving force behind this change, however, is that Chester is losing his voice. If you listen to the live recordings through the years, you'll noticed the screamed portions get progressively shorter and he strains more and more on the higher pitches. A pity that he can't perform like this anymore.

I totally adore their older stuff, and when Minutes to Midnight came out; I was really excited, but I was quickly disappointed once I listened to it. =/ It's still good, but I really don't think it's quite the LP we've all come to love.
