Morrissey caused much controversy with that song, of all Morrisseys lyrics concerning suicide 'Asleep' is the bleakest, more than eloquently articulating an unshakeable world-weariness simply for poetic effect, asleep actively eulogises it. The cause of Morrissey's death wish is his fatigue over constantly waking up alone, though as he slips from this life to the next, his final macabre wish is to be serenaded. groaning his dying breath, the closing exhortation of 'Auld lang Syne' A masterpiece!
Illustrating The Smiths at their darkest emotional ebb, Asleep is as beautiful as it is ghastly; a song of assiduous despair, it is the harsh and authentic clamour of the human soul at its most nihilistic.... Sing me to sleep And then leave me alone Don't try to wake me in the morning 'Cause I will be gone Don't feel bad for me I want you to know Deep in the cell of my heart I will feel so glad to go To die, to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream
This is great. I think you should elaborate on this video: give it some more body. Nice use of camera angles. You might want to consider trying those shots with a tripod, so it looks cleaner.
you like bunuel I take it... and maya deren... throwing in a little man ray and kenneth anger for good measure? Those aren't quite as overt. A little derivative but cool. nice choice of songs.
i just read the most amazing book in my life. other than sex, drugs, and cocoa puffs.
i just finished reading a book called The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. in the book charlie is riding in sams truck and this song came on the radio. all he could say when it was over was that he was infinite. i wanted to hear it for myself. its awesome. thank you :]
Great, I loved it. The abstract-ness and ambiguity at times kind of leave one to ascribe their own meaning and interpretation... But it still sets a tone that levels with the song. Awesome.
ok, its only ok. i'm sorry, but i mean, this song has a lot more meaning than he "just doesn't want to wake up" this is not profound and it doesn't really have to do with the song. music videos need to describe how the singer was feeling in a realistic context. realistically, who sleeps on stairs? even someone who is depressed wouldn't sleep upside down onh stairs
I respect your opinion =). But the context goes further than just someone that wants to sleep and that's it. The magic of a shortfilm, it's to make your own story about it. If your imagination and comprehension couldn't go further, it doesn't mean that this film it's not profound.
But it's okay if you see it that way. I just wanted to make that point clear... Open your mind, not everything it's exactly as it seems.
Oh, and about sleeping on the stairs... Dude, it's a shortfilm, you can do whatever you want to in it, if you want your character to sleep in a banana, it will happen =).

Is that your own interpretation of it? Or is that how Morrissey felt at the time of writing?
padshardbank 3 years ago
It is my interpretation of how Morrissey probably felt at the time he wrote this song.....

It is all about this being tagged as 'emo'. Do you seriously think The Smiths or Morrissey can be classified as just emotional? lies lies lies.
xdirtofthevineyardx 4 years ago
it's tagged as "emo" 'cause it's an usual search, and people can find it =P, not because it's an emotional video...
