  • I've never seen my rats do that and I've had then for three months! They brux sometimes and like me A LOT but never seen that....

  • Adorable! I love rats and I rlly want one as a pet but I currently have a mouse named Pepper!

  • Boggle?

  • When my rat first did that I was creeped out, but then I laughed my face off

  • @KnittingPasta It is creapy but at least it means they're happy. I think I'm more use to it now but sometimes I still stop and stare

  • Boggling is really creepy but now I watch it all the time! I all ways laugh at it!!

  • Adorable!

  • Never seen that, but one of my rats used to wag her tail really fast. XD

  • @bouncyballblue I love when rats do that too. Mine I have done it when they're nervous, but I heard it can mean a bunch of different things.

  • I don't ge- ALL HAIL HYPNOTOAD.

  • RATATUWI!

  • AWWWW your rat is soooo cuuute ^.^ i love rats my first ever rat just started to boggle today and i was scared at first but then i realised it was a boggle X3 she did it about 10 seconds but it made me happy that she was =)

  • @themousemaster congrats! it took forever for my rats to boggle in front of me. maybe they were teasing me?

  • Aww, I love my standards but everytime I see a dumbo I feel a bit jealous <3

  • @SatinReign they are both so cute. standards were my fav, then i switched to dumbos. and one day i'll prob switch back again, lol

  • Ah my dream rat! A blue dumbo, so cute <3

  • @MrTomMole she was very pretty, i would love to have another like her

  • it looks like its eyes is gonna pop out! but very cute, wish i gotta dumbo rat :( but got standard ones and i love them so much :)

  • @shilzna i personally love dumo ears, but standard ears are so cute too. it's funny when i first had rats i was the other way around. and my sis still likes standards way better. but really a rat is a rat, makes no difference to them, lol

  • @dogsnbears yup!! they are ALL crazy and funny creatures ;D

  • very cute. what type of rat is he/she?

  • @CronicFiend thanks, i believe she is a powder blue/american blue (there are different names for the same colour), self (being a solid colour), dumbo (ear placement. she also has standard fur (not rex). hope i got everything in there, lol

  • rex type.grey fur.calm.

  • WOWOWOWOWWOWOOWWowowoww..... :D

  • brilliant :o)

  • couldn't agree more :)

  • It's like their own unique "way of saying "I'm happy I wuvvv you!

  • me too, def catches your attention the first time you see it

  • aww its happy! ^_^ its so funny when they do that

  • Heh heh why do they do that? RIP sugar :( My rats don't do that, but they're a lot smaller (Same size as mice, maybe just a little bigger) I don't even know if it's mice, i got them from my baby sister when they where about 6 months old, but they don't look like mice. They're black, soft fur, very clean. When they sleep, they cover themselves in hay so i think they are from a warm country. They are used to humans but they don't like to be pet like bigger rats. You know what specie that is?

  • at first i thought african soft furred, but i don't think they comes in black. maybe a gerbil? hard for me to tell without pics, lol

  • they do that when they are mind bogglingly happy and feel safe and content...and your rats are probably very young if they are small as mice...and they burrow in hay because they like to hide not because they come from a warm country...and if they do not like being patted how can they be used to humans? your rats are not happy from what you've said...

  • No they are very old and still the same size (3 1/2 years) I found out what they are called. I don't know in english, but translated directly from Danish it would be "Desert Rats" It looks a lot like a gerbil, but it's black. I've had pet rats when i was a kid that where 5 times bigger than they are and they liked being around humans, being pet etc...

  • I see sorry i misunderstood. Sorry xx

  • I love it when they do that.

  • =) nice

  • Such underrated pets. I've got 2 myself, and aside from their obsession with cleaning my ears and fingernails, they're cool little animals.

  • I completely agree, I wish more people would open their minds to them. They would be pleasantly surprised.

  • Much better than hamsters in my book. They're very friendly from what I've seen.

  • @sivrel

My uncle chucked his daughters hamster out the car window while he was driving (lives in the country) because the furry basterd bit her. Two days later... she got a rat

  • @xXxScareFactoryxXx Rats need cage mates though

  • @sivrel

I know that. I have two but if you just start off and you dont know much about rats (she's 6) i believe it would be better to have one for a couple weeks then get another. But her rat had a cage mate. My aunt accidently killed my cousins rat because it had a strange illness, she took the water out and some lady at a pet store told her to replace the water with bird medicine.

  • one of my rats is being strange :S she is being realy quiet and stares at you silently and i went up to stroke her and then she was squeking and jumping everywhere and went even more silent :S shes only 5 months old got any suggestions?

  • sounds like something scared her, sometimes they sense something different that we don't even think of. my rats have these kind of days once in a while too

  • looks creepy XD

I just find it funny when my rats do it

    HOORAY FOR DUMBOS!

  • That's called "bruxing" and they actually chatter their teeth... They do it when they're either really really happy or really stressed!... Looks like a happy ratty to me! : )

  • my rat is actually doing it right now . she is curled up behind my neck laying down in the back of my sweater . .... always wondered why she was chattering her teeth . XD

  • Major Boggle at (0:10) ..

  • 10/10 sweet, sweatest rat i have ever seen, beautyful face :-)))))

  • Thank you! I always though she was a pretty girl myself but I think I was biased, being her owner ;)

  • YOUR RAT IS SOOOOOO CUTE

  • thanks :)

  • Gorgeous dumbo!! <:3( )~~

  • thank you!

  • Aw he is so cute! My rat is always doing that. Specially when he's getting kisses. Or food....

  • sometimes when that happens r they grinding down there teeth?because my sisters rat sometimes dose it then

  • yes, sometimes this is true too

  • ok thx

  • That's the cutest thing! XD He must be pretty happy. ^^

  • Hehe I love your cute little rats color. Adorable!

  • thanks, her colour is called "american blue" i believe. but i have a soft spot for blue/grey rats ;)

  • Me too! I love my little blue cutie.

  • LOL omg that was definitely a huge boggle! OMG! hahaha idk if my rat's eyes have ever got that big XD

  • Very happy rat alert! Hee hee.

  • my rat does that too - why do they do it? lol

  • if you look further down the comments, there's an explanation

  • HOLY...

that seriously scared me! Lol. Too cute, though. I'd just be verryy scared if my rat did that. lol. I'd have to remind myself that that is a good sign! lol

  • the first time is a bit shocking but if you know what it means than you know not to be scared. now i think it's cute

  • TOO CUTE!!! I LOVE rattie boggles :):) Warms my heart.

  • i think this is also grinding there teeth together

  • yup, i believe so

  • So "boggle" is what they call it when a rat twitches its eyes and mouth? Interesting.

I'm not being sarcastic, I just never heard of it.

  • yup, it's probibly called other things too. i'm not sure where the term came from though.

  • Oh, every time, dogsnbears. I can't capture a rattie yawn either.

  • i still have to get that myself too, same with a leap through the air. one day though! (though it will probibly be by total accident ;) )

  • You captured the boggle!

  • i'm surprised she let me get it on cam. notice how she goes to run off at the end, once the cam comes out they tend to stop what they're doing, lol

  • Why do rats boggle?

They have a muscle (the masseter) which passes through the socket, behind the eyeball. When they brux (tooth-purr) intensely, their jaw moves up and down the muscle contracts with the tooth grinding, thus the eyes seem to move in and out.

It means they are very happy :-)

  • I see you're answering lots of questions, so I'm going to ask. :P

I just got rats, and I think they do this, but I'm not sure because their faces aren't always pointed at me. Is it normal to do like, a whole body tremble while bruxing/boggling? They're always relaxed and being petted when they do this, I just wasn't sure what in the world they were doing.

  • :P i try my best.

hmm, hard for me to say but i think what your talking about is normal. especially if they're relaxed when doing it. you could always make a vid of it ;) if you have any other questions i know a great website to visit or you can ask me cause i don't mind

  • Why do rats do that?

  • they do it when they're happy or relaxed or even stressed. why exactly i don't know maybe it's just because they can

  • thats so creepy. XP. my little Tickles never does that its still very reked me out at first. it fcute but

  • it's weird but cute at the same time.

  • Thats a very cute rat, I've never seen a grey one before. She reminds me of Roland Rat (Roland Rat was a puppet character on British TV in the 80's, for anyone who dosent know).

  • thanks! grey isn't the most common colour compaired to some. had to lookup Roland, she does look like him though

  • Actually, I looked up Roland Rat after I made the comment, he's a much darker grey than she is, and shes much cuter!, whats her name?.

  • some pics looked more like her then others. Her name is Sugar (I have a Spice too) but she is no longer with me. I made a tribute video of her if your interested. She was definatley a cutie, like you said

  • Lol!

  • in out in out in out in out... holy crudsicles!

  • lol

  • omg XD that was crazy!! I've never seen a rat's eyes do that before!

  • Took awhile for my rats to do it but now it's not so rare when you know what your looking for. It is pretty crazy the first time you see it XD

  • so cute! i looove dumbos, and your little one is gorgeous, especially the little 'eyebrow' looking thing on his/her forehead...

  • lol, I know what your talking about, I see it too. It's just the way she showed up on the camera and the shine in her eyes. She doesn't normally look like that. She was a very pretty girl though.

  • Your Rat is Beautiful.

  • Thank you :)

  • My rats boggled sometimes ^.^

At first I was worried, but then I got used to it xD

  • Luckly I knew what they were doing, I'd probibly be alot more worried if I never heard about it before seeing it

  • just out of interest is there any reason they need to boggle for or do they just do it?

  • There isn't a need for them to do it. Even some happy rats never do it.

  • i have had many rats, never seen that tho

  • I have seen all my girls do it at some point. it usually only last about 30sec and they stop. and sometimes it's more noticable then others

  • i dont know how old my rat is.. eddy was a present, seems like my rat is still younger^^

  • thats somehow weired .. why dont my rat do that?

  • it is weird but fun to watch, my rats didn't start doing it until they were 7 months old

  • Rat boggles are the cutest!!!
