AWWWW your rat is soooo cuuute ^.^ i love rats my first ever rat just started to boggle today and i was scared at first but then i realised it was a boggle X3 she did it about 10 seconds but it made me happy that she was =)
@shilzna i personally love dumo ears, but standard ears are so cute too. it's funny when i first had rats i was the other way around. and my sis still likes standards way better. but really a rat is a rat, makes no difference to them, lol
@CronicFiend thanks, i believe she is a powder blue/american blue (there are different names for the same colour), self (being a solid colour), dumbo (ear placement. she also has standard fur (not rex). hope i got everything in there, lol
Heh heh why do they do that? RIP sugar :( My rats don't do that, but they're a lot smaller (Same size as mice, maybe just a little bigger) I don't even know if it's mice, i got them from my baby sister when they where about 6 months old, but they don't look like mice. They're black, soft fur, very clean. When they sleep, they cover themselves in hay so i think they are from a warm country. They are used to humans but they don't like to be pet like bigger rats. You know what specie that is?
they do that when they are mind bogglingly happy and feel safe and content...and your rats are probably very young if they are small as mice...and they burrow in hay because they like to hide not because they come from a warm country...and if they do not like being patted how can they be used to humans? your rats are not happy from what you've said...
No they are very old and still the same size (3 1/2 years) I found out what they are called. I don't know in english, but translated directly from Danish it would be "Desert Rats" It looks a lot like a gerbil, but it's black. I've had pet rats when i was a kid that where 5 times bigger than they are and they liked being around humans, being pet etc...
My uncle chucked his daughters hamster out the car window while he was driving (lives in the country) because the furry basterd bit her. Two days later... she got a rat
I know that. I have two but if you just start off and you dont know much about rats (she's 6) i believe it would be better to have one for a couple weeks then get another. But her rat had a cage mate. My aunt accidently killed my cousins rat because it had a strange illness, she took the water out and some lady at a pet store told her to replace the water with bird medicine.
one of my rats is being strange :S she is being realy quiet and stares at you silently and i went up to stroke her and then she was squeking and jumping everywhere and went even more silent :S shes only 5 months old got any suggestions?
sounds like something scared her, sometimes they sense something different that we don't even think of. my rats have these kind of days once in a while too
That's called "bruxing" and they actually chatter their teeth... They do it when they're either really really happy or really stressed!... Looks like a happy ratty to me! : )
my rat is actually doing it right now . she is curled up behind my neck laying down in the back of my sweater . .... always wondered why she was chattering her teeth . XD
that seriously scared me! Lol. Too cute, though. I'd just be verryy scared if my rat did that. lol. I'd have to remind myself that that is a good sign! lol
They have a muscle (the masseter) which passes through the socket, behind the eyeball. When they brux (tooth-purr) intensely, their jaw moves up and down the muscle contracts with the tooth grinding, thus the eyes seem to move in and out.
I see you're answering lots of questions, so I'm going to ask. :P
I just got rats, and I think they do this, but I'm not sure because their faces aren't always pointed at me. Is it normal to do like, a whole body tremble while bruxing/boggling? They're always relaxed and being petted when they do this, I just wasn't sure what in the world they were doing.
hmm, hard for me to say but i think what your talking about is normal. especially if they're relaxed when doing it. you could always make a vid of it ;) if you have any other questions i know a great website to visit or you can ask me cause i don't mind
Thats a very cute rat, I've never seen a grey one before. She reminds me of Roland Rat (Roland Rat was a puppet character on British TV in the 80's, for anyone who dosent know).
some pics looked more like her then others. Her name is Sugar (I have a Spice too) but she is no longer with me. I made a tribute video of her if your interested. She was definatley a cutie, like you said
lol, I know what your talking about, I see it too. It's just the way she showed up on the camera and the shine in her eyes. She doesn't normally look like that. She was a very pretty girl though.

i'm surprised she let me get it on cam. notice how she goes to run off at the end, once the cam comes out they tend to stop what they're doing, lol

Why do rats boggle?
