yeah id go with an sks over a mosin. 10/22 is a must though. very light, cheap, accurate quiet, easy to clean and you can carry a 1000 rounds no problem. stopping power(energy)?...no not really. lethal?...quite

I'm contemplating a Marlin 60 ($160) versus a Rem 10/22 ($240). The $70 difference makes me want to consider this thoroughly. For someone who just wants a good .22 LR rifle, who doesn't mind the action; which do you recommend?
@Clowerdean Obviously I'm a big Ruger fan --- but the Marlin isn't a bad gun. The 1022 certainly has more options for modification, and I think it's a bit more reliable overall --- but others will disagree. Do a Google search for "ruger 10/22 vs marlin 60" and you'll find a ton of differing opinions. If you can, I think your best bet would be to shoot both of them before you make your choice. Some rifles are just going to "feel" better to some people. It's often a very personal thing.

Still, although I'm not as much of a fan of that weird tube-fed .22 system, I'm also not a fan of a traditional magazine-fed hunting rifle. It just doesn't do it for me. For that, I'm thinking I might just go with the Marlin 60 after all.
@Clowerdean Marlin. I have both of them but the Marlin 60 is just more practical. Tube fed spring magazine means no messing with interchangeable mags. Just pull the tube out and gravity feed the tube. Scope mount allows easy rings and excellent barrel length vs my 10/22. All wood furniture and the heft of a larger caliber rifle. Now if you want to do all that add on stock swapping, and RIS kits then its the 10/22 is a kit gun, but that stuff adds up in cost really quick and doesn't appeal to me

@Clowerdean comparatively speaking the Marlin is crazy accurate and can reach out to 400 meters with high velocity rounds. They have a couple of cheap stock swaps for them as well if you want to lighten it up. The 10/22 is pretty reliable as well and alot of fun to shoot with its shorter barrel but its a bit more money and not really worth it unless you plan on doing all of those random add on tactical kits, and dressing it up to look like an AK and what not. Really 2 very good rifles.
Very nice.. I love my Mosin.. My first weapon I bought and still own is a Mosin 91/10 Long Rifle minted and built in 1916... I loved it so much I found my 2nd..which is a 91/30 Exsniper from 1944.. Very nice and beautifully cheap .and Deadly spot on accurate to boot.. I refinished it on the 4th of july 2 years ago.. Still on the lookout for a PU scope to return it to its sniper glory.. but as is I could take out plenty of these "zombies" easy.

22LR, works great in my oppinon. the 22LR tends to bounce inside what ever target you hit. Head shots on "zombies" would be very effective. 1st I applaud your choice of the .22, the most highly under rated gun for Zombie Apocalypse. 2nd I highly disapprove of your choice on the Mosin. Fire just one round and you'll summon every zombie within a mile directly to you. Not a good idea. Stick to the .22, or better yet, a high powered .25 caliber break barrel air rifle. Nearly silent and with plenty of power to splat a zombie's brain. Find a good hiding spot with a good view of the surrounding area, and kill zombies all day with no fear.

You can pick one up for $400 and with a few extra hundred it can THEN be used for everything. Underfold stock, red dot sight, and a tac rail. Can then be used close range and far.

i could go on for hours about the 7.92mm mauser. i say its the best bolt gun ever made cause every rifle company that makes bolt guns today has copied the germans bolt design. but im not gonna take anything from the mosin, it is a time and war tested rifle that is deadly accurate out to 700+ yards with a good scope.
there is a short "carbine" version of the mosin nagant. i dont remember what its called, i seen hicok45 shooting one in a video a long time ago. if i was to get a mosin nagant i would get the short one. i dont have one right now cause they are to long, i prefer the german 7.92x57mm mauser aka 98k. best bolt gun ever made the 98k :)
@greatwhitejake There are a few Mosin carbines, like the M38 and M44...but they are more rare and a little pricier than the 91/30, especially these days as Mosins have started to become popular. If you can find one for a good price, grab it! Tho a buddy of mine just hacked eight inches off the barrel of a 91/30 and presto: instant carbine --- not that I can recommend that method for anyone without the proper gunsmithing skills, but I have to admit: it shoots fine (makes a big-ass fireball too..)
@MegaFuckShit69 A cheap AK is always a good option...there are about 100 million of them out there in the world. (and btw, you have the greatest youtube user name of all time...)
I prefer common calibers such as the .30 06, .357 mag and .45 plus of course the .22. In the event of a zombie situation all are capable of a kill shot plus they are more likely to be found while scrounging for ammo at abandonded houses or stores...remember the .357 will also shoot .38 special! Did I forget my trusty Mossberg 500? remember to have a samurai sword handy for close in work! This goes for criminals as well since a methhead will go down with a headshot also!

22LR, works great in my oppinon. the 22LR tends to bounce inside what ever target you hit. Head shots on "zombies" would be very effective. Not to mention that currently in America 35% (rough number i dont know exactly, read it recently) of deaths by firearms are from the 22 caliber, which is understandible because like mentioned in this video, its a cheap round, alot of criminals are cheap, lol

1st I applaud your choice of the .22, the most highly under rated gun for Zombie Apocalypse. 2nd I highly disapprove of your choice on the Mosin. Fire just one round and you'll summon every zombie within a mile directly to you. Not a good idea. Stick to the .22, or better yet, a high powered .25 caliber break barrel air rifle. Nearly silent and with plenty of power to splat a zombie's brain. Find a good hiding spot with a good view of the surrounding area, and kill zombies all day with no fear.

You can pick one up for $400 and with a few extra hundred it can THEN be used for everything. Underfold stock, red dot sight, and a tac rail. Can then be used close range and far.

Like swords, lances, crossbows, morning-stars, and all that stuff? --- I mean, I assume you've at LEAST got a suit of armor..... ;) As for how I'd carry all my guns on the field: I'm pretty locked down deep in the mountains, so I'm figuring on not having to go anywhere. My biggest issue will be defending the homestead.

i could go on for hours about the 7.92mm mauser. i say its the best bolt gun ever made cause every rifle company that makes bolt guns today has copied the germans bolt design. but im not gonna take anything from the mosin, it is a time and war tested rifle that is deadly accurate out to 700+ yards with a good scope.

there is a short "carbine" version of the mosin nagant. i dont remember what its called, i seen hicok45 shooting one in a video a long time ago. if i was to get a mosin nagant i would get the short one. i dont have one right now cause they are to long, i prefer the german 7.92x57mm mauser aka 98k. best bolt gun ever made the 98k :)

@greatwhitejake There are a few Mosin carbines, like the M38 and M44...but they are more rare and a little pricier than the 91/30, especially these days as Mosins have started to become popular. If you can find one for a good price, grab it! Tho a buddy of mine just hacked eight inches off the barrel of a 91/30 and presto: instant carbine --- not that I can recommend that method for anyone without the proper gunsmithing skills, but I have to admit: it shoots fine (makes a big-ass fireball too..)

I prefer common calibers such as the .30 06, .357 mag and .45 plus of course the .22. In the event of a zombie situation all are capable of a kill shot plus they are more likely to be found while scrounging for ammo at abandonded houses or stores...remember the .357 will also shoot .38 special! Did I forget my trusty Mossberg 500? remember to have a samurai sword handy for close in work! This goes for criminals as well since a methhead will go down with a headshot also!
