@evydaemon Nothing wrong with the turbo on this engine, just muppets treating turbo like crap ie. not letting turbo cool down before turning off, revving the shit out of it when its cold and not bothering to change the oil.
Whats not cost effective about this engine?the extra fuel you would use in a 3.0 l v6 could buy the car after three years.

Yay, great video! I'm gonna buy this car as my first car to save money on fuel... I'm still wondering about the overhead capacity of the car if it can take a shortage of water for a long time...
I drove Golf VI 1.4L with 122bhp...all I can say is that I was very, very suprised how elastic it is and how much preformance it delievers. Great engine!
@darijo203 you obviously havent driven anything with real power... 122..HA.. my 1000cc motorcycles makes more than that STOCK and only weighs 350 pounds.
It depends on the initial cost of the vehicle. It takes a long time to recoup the extra initial cost in fuel savings. You may wear the car out long before the fuel savings matches the extra cost of the car. If you are looking at just economics you have to look at the total cost to own the vehicle. I think Yahoo gives this cost for vehicles. Civic is probably at the top for cheapest cars to own.
wel, normal families here in europe that never suffered some financial problems or some kind of aditions.
exchanges his car when it's exactly 2 years old.
they only think about the resel value.
it's suposed to be that most of the cars older than 15 years or so are on the scrap yard.
their no collectables.
accept for some specials cars.
but even our specials, like the opel manta, the C kadet and stuff like the 2002ti, bmw 323i,190 2.3 16v, the first m3, even they disappeared total from the view.
people could ave bigger engine here, but they also like to trotle alot.
many people also like to go on land road and enjoy to curve road, like personaly rally or something, i realy love to achieve the fasted possible speed around a corner of wich i got sorft of a fan of it.
well what can I say. Buy a turbocharged benzin engine... but if someone think that it will be economical (especially in street race) so he is wrong
I like small and light cars too but not for journeys or normal race - bigger cars are more stable especially when u drive fast (about 160-200km/h) and are safer, small cars are ok but in the city..
oh, and audi a4, a6, a8, passat and exeo's frontwheel suspention is amazings cool, just to look at, a 4 link system, witch allows variable wheel angles when the wheel turn.
i can't express my self en how the escribe the effect.
but it's a race car type suspention.
it has spare holes, to adjust the wheel angle, even the link bar from the steering looks cool and technical.
i have repaired an accidental vihicle and was required to change the part with the wheel bearing and a new wheel.
you can even add 4 wheel drive if you find a donor car on the scrap yard.
you need the gearbox, the rear axle system(subframe with differantial and suspention).
voila, a beast that takes tight curves on town road like it's cheese, i have done 200+km/h+ (friend's '98 audi a8) on a land road with the 2 right wheel in the mud, that smal the road was for 2 car to pas.
it's superbly safe personal race car for daily use.
what you mean high priced? at least we in north europe are always buying full synthetic anyway. Ive been in ireland for a while now and amazed how rare full synthetic is included here in service :o Its 25eur difference and you do it once a year so why not give your car that little bit better?
DSG transmission is sealed for life so no fluid change there.
Once the engine is done, it doesn't matter because they were the first to the market with it. Once the car is released, any automaker could just buy the car and take it appart to see how it works anyway.
The tsi is answer to yesterdays requirements not tomorrows requirements. Most of advances are evolutionary not revolutionary. Tomorrows requirements are engnies that get better thermal effecncey than fuel cells. high Torqure
this engine can 'regarding it's mode' run on a ultra lean mixture, much less than the 1 to 14.x required optimal mixture.
per combustion stroke it injects 2 different mixtures a rich and a lean around the rich mixture, preventing the engine to get hot and burn every last particle of gasonline.
I know this very well it's called layered mixture but this wans't my point - the idea was the same like GDI and despite this in practice = FSI is even less economical than normal engines (TSI is more economical but it's because VW change totally unsuccessful 5V technology in turbo engines.
In practice FSI works in 1 to 14.XX mixture almost all the time - so it's a shit...
why is 5 valve unsuccesfull, i once removed the cam shafts to exchange the chain on them, a 20v 1800 engine - a4.
i was amazed about the cams angel on the 3 inlet valves(they vary), smaller and therefor closer build, it's not that complex, it has a total accetable build quality.
hydraulic valve adjust.
the more valve, the more air effortly get's in, better vaporization of the fuel.
yahama uses it on his bikes, do you think they also wrong¿?
because more than 4 valeves per cylinder is using in high RPM engines (bikes ect) who gives u power in very high RPM, In normal engines where u need a max torque available as low as possible more than 4 valves gives u nothing and put the max torque very high what is not economical and uncomfortable
Like u see the Japanese who put 4 valeves per Cylinder (far before Germans start to do that) didn't put however a 5 valves per C. to cars engines ? guess why
a "environmenta friendlyl" pushrod engine hardly allows 4 valve operation, i know bmw did it on their bike.
diesel engine also have 16valve engine, do you think they are wrong?
i almost fell from my legs, when i saw a 2000+ build voyager with a intalian pushrod diesel with a broken pushrod system.
come'n man, spend some more money with a real engine and other technology, like DSG boxes(with american people stil wanting to have normal auto trannie?!?!, sourced form BMW comment).
I was talkin about 5 valves per cylinder, where did I wrote that 4 valves per cylinder is wrong? lol
I see you aren't a mechanic so u need read more about GDI FSI and knows why they putted this technology into cars if Japanese don't want to developed it.. (BTW Renault had similar engine too called I.D.E. - not produced any more)
i gues, you need to learn to understand whatr you read.
i said, i fixed a car with suffered a accident, passat
i fixed the chains of audi 1800 20 valve, i have pictured proof.
the only thing i haven't toughed with tools is aeroplain and a train.
i'm dutch and i live in Valencia.
there are many 4 lane straights in this city.
with close to 1.5 million or more moving in this area, people realy race to the get first to next traffic light, the get the best spot, to trotle again, even before it get
no, never drove it, but i did repair a volvo 850 t5 estate, police in holland used it.
the police in the U.K. also.
it's a car for salesman on the road.
(due to economical reasons), i have a '94 vectra 2.5 24v stocked, a engine designed by coswordt, 5 speed gearbox, only 170hp and something like 2100 pounds in weight, it's a rocked.
4 cyl with gearbox, are better for the 50km/h speed limit
stop and go traffic makes a 5-6-8 cyl engine lazy, to much gear change or drive high rpm in 2nd gear.
hmm well I saw one s60 T5 and if u compare this to vectra 2.5 V6 24 V it is a real rocket , u can get 7 sec to 100km/h easily so it's not bad as a salesman's car...
IMO 5 cylinder 2.5 capacity with turbo is better than same 2.5 V6 6 cylinder without turbo... I asked u coz i want to know how reliable this cars are.. especially engines.
BTW if u want drive really cheap put there an sequential LPG installation but Only Landi Renzo Omegas.
U see? I aksed which are now. If golf r20 is a sucessor of r32 (who got VR6 4 V) he will have a tuned 2.0 TFSI engine (270 PS) so it's not 5 valves per cylinder engine for sure.
the vectra does 7.3 or 7.5 to do 0-100km/h acelleration.
(but you need to skilled with the gearbox, because it reaches 6000rpm realy fast and cuts off there, realy anoying if you having fun overtaken people on a 2 lane landroad.
even thoug i realy enjoy engines, i recommend 4 cyl for daily use.
it's just more practical.
automatic sucks, unles it's a DSG, pdk or any other dual clutch system.

VW will most likely require high priced oil. The transmission fluid is also ridiculously expensive.
oilhammer04 2 years ago
who cares?
look @ the fuel economy, you wil earn the cost of oil back.
170 hp for a 1400 engine, many u.s. 6 cyl engine doen't even reach this amount.
lol
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
its nothing coz its dual turbocharger - u can get this in normal engine with this turbos - FSI is a shit
sweetbounty 2 years ago
It depends on the initial cost of the vehicle. It takes a long time to recoup the extra initial cost in fuel savings. You may wear the car out long before the fuel savings matches the extra cost of the car. If you are looking at just economics you have to look at the total cost to own the vehicle. I think Yahoo gives this cost for vehicles. Civic is probably at the top for cheapest cars to own.
oilhammer04 2 years ago
wel, normal families here in europe that never suffered some financial problems or some kind of aditions.

they only think about the resel value.
it's suposed to be that most of the cars older than 15 years or so are on the scrap yard.
their no collectables.

but even our specials, like the opel manta, the C kadet and stuff like the 2002ti, bmw 323i,190 2.3 16v, the first m3, even they disappeared total from the view.

people demand fast smal cars.
smal for the parking, fastt on the lane.
people could ave bigger engine here, but they also like to trotle alot.
many people also like to go on land road and enjoy to curve road, like personaly rally or something, i realy love to achieve the fasted possible speed around a corner of wich i got sorft of a fan of it.
i hate long roads.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
well what can I say. Buy a turbocharged benzin engine... but if someone think that it will be economical (especially in street race) so he is wrong
I like small and light cars too but not for journeys or normal race - bigger cars are more stable especially when u drive fast (about 160-200km/h) and are safer, small cars are ok but in the city..
sweetbounty 2 years ago
no, a electronic direct injected diesel is real good for people.
it's almsot impossible to kil the engine at traffic light when releasing the clutch accidental.
it has loads of torque, it runs good, they reach 5000 rpm quickly.
you visit the gas station litle.
i drive 1700 km to get home in the netherland in exactly 16 hours, non stop drive.
with litle more than 1.5 tank (50 liters)
@ exactly 120km/h non stop, i only needed to acellerate @ toll gates.
wanted to test my 90hp, topped it @ 210kmh
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
yyy tell me what u mean writing "no" coz I have no doubt that Diesel are good for people. I don't know with what or who u argue ?
it;s madnes to reach 5000 rpm in diesel coz they reach max power at 4000. (in mostly)
hmm i never saw those result in consumption in normal car 2.9 liter per 100km.. what car and engine ?
sweetbounty 2 years ago
who said anything about 2.9 liter / 100km.
i ried to say, i covered france completely (997km) in a almost non stop trip, if it wasn't for toll gates with only 1 tank filling.
vw wagens promised 50liter per 100km/h (or 5l to 100km) and their promise was true.
i kept my foot in a certain position, that the car always kept cruisig non stop 120km/h.
(i should have bought that handle for the steeling colom, to enenable cruise control).

the old citroen AX 1100 was caple of getting faster to 70km/h than a bmw 750.
litle fast cars are real fun to 'rally' in.
bigger cars are more dangerous to drive sporty, because of the weight in the cornes.
litle cars are fun, you don't need speed, you need fast 0-100km/ times.
i think that0's the most importand factor in european minds

oh, and audi a4, a6, a8, passat and exeo's frontwheel suspention is amazings cool, just to look at, a 4 link system, witch allows variable wheel angles when the wheel turn.
i can't express my self en how the escribe the effect.
but it's a race car type suspention.
it has spare holes, to adjust the wheel angle, even the link bar from the steering looks cool and technical.
i have repaired an accidental vihicle and was required to change the part with the wheel bearing and a new wheel.
amazing!
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
all cars should be build like that.
you can even add 4 wheel drive if you find a donor car on the scrap yard.
you need the gearbox, the rear axle system(subframe with differantial and suspention).
voila, a beast that takes tight curves on town road like it's cheese, i have done 200+km/h+ (friend's '98 audi a8) on a land road with the 2 right wheel in the mud, that smal the road was for 2 car to pas.
it's superbly safe personal race car for daily use.

Once the engine is done, it doesn't matter because they were the first to the market with it. Once the car is released, any automaker could just buy the car and take it appart to see how it works anyway.

yes it's true.. FSI is a crap and nothing new Mitsubishi build many years before FSI an GDI motors...
sweetbounty 2 years ago
this is different than GDI engines.
this engine can 'regarding it's mode' run on a ultra lean mixture, much less than the 1 to 14.x required optimal mixture.
per combustion stroke it injects 2 different mixtures a rich and a lean around the rich mixture, preventing the engine to get hot and burn every last particle of gasonline.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
I know this very well it's called layered mixture but this wans't my point - the idea was the same like GDI and despite this in practice = FSI is even less economical than normal engines (TSI is more economical but it's because VW change totally unsuccessful 5V technology in turbo engines.
In practice FSI works in 1 to 14.XX mixture almost all the time - so it's a shit...
sweetbounty 2 years ago
why is 5 valve unsuccesfull, i once removed the cam shafts to exchange the chain on them, a 20v 1800 engine - a4.
i was amazed about the cams angel on the 3 inlet valves(they vary), smaller and therefor closer build, it's not that complex, it has a total accetable build quality.
hydraulic valve adjust.
the more valve, the more air effortly get's in, better vaporization of the fuel.
yahama uses it on his bikes, do you think they also wrong¿?
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
because more than 4 valeves per cylinder is using in high RPM engines (bikes ect) who gives u power in very high RPM, In normal engines where u need a max torque available as low as possible more than 4 valves gives u nothing and put the max torque very high what is not economical and uncomfortable
Like u see the Japanese who put 4 valeves per Cylinder (far before Germans start to do that) didn't put however a 5 valves per C. to cars engines ? guess why
sweetbounty 2 years ago
i think some of the first rolls bently or bugatti used this technology first.
Such designs have been around since at least 1912 (Peugeot) and perhaps earlier.
source: wiki

we littaraly race in the cities.
it's to crowded for the policia to function probaly in order to do something about it.
but going like 80km/h where 50 is alowed is not uncommen here in rush hour.
on the highway it's 'somewhat' publicly accepted to drive 140, where 120 is alowed.
i don't think you would be beabled to drive here on your first day, without getting scared.
i can asure you, it's scary as a passanger.
it goes hard here on the roads.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
a "environmenta friendlyl" pushrod engine hardly allows 4 valve operation, i know bmw did it on their bike.
diesel engine also have 16valve engine, do you think they are wrong?
i almost fell from my legs, when i saw a 2000+ build voyager with a intalian pushrod diesel with a broken pushrod system.
come'n man, spend some more money with a real engine and other technology, like DSG boxes(with american people stil wanting to have normal auto trannie?!?!, sourced form BMW comment).
cheap ars
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
I was talkin about 5 valves per cylinder, where did I wrote that 4 valves per cylinder is wrong? lol
I see you aren't a mechanic so u need read more about GDI FSI and knows why they putted this technology into cars if Japanese don't want to developed it.. (BTW Renault had similar engine too called I.D.E. - not produced any more)
sweetbounty 2 years ago
i gues, you need to learn to understand whatr you read.
i said, i fixed a car with suffered a accident, passat
i fixed the chains of audi 1800 20 valve, i have pictured proof.
the only thing i haven't toughed with tools is aeroplain and a train.
i'm dutch and i live in Valencia.
there are many 4 lane straights in this city.
with close to 1.5 million or more moving in this area, people realy race to the get first to next traffic light, the get the best spot, to trotle again, even before it get
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
what?
what chains ? what model year ? coz there was no chain in 1.8 20V 125 PS but there was a cam belt so what da hell u talkin about?
1.8 engine is a shit thats why they putted a turbo there... and 1.8 T is much better..
sweetbounty 2 years ago
there is a chain to control the the second camshaft, the one for the outlet ports.
on the front side there is a belt, but it only drives the inlet shaft.
the 2.5,... tdi has 2 of these chaints.
125ps for a 1800 is good number, else it would endanger other models.
i think for the aluminium head, it's a real good number.
the 125ps version has some of the parts required for the turbo version, already build in.
there is a tube under the radiator for the intercooler
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
u wrote chains if I'm correct there is only 1 chain in 1.8 ...
2.5 Tdi is a V6 so.. its obvious but tehe's a cam belt too.
125 in this engine is weak. I would never say that there is a 125 PS - misunderstanding
1.8 was a mistake and VW group give up this technology. that's all.
sweetbounty 2 years ago
why, many 2.0 engine are tuned for economy and don't even reach 150hp(atleast in that time).
marking technical, it's a good number.
1600 engine did around 90hp in that ....
why, vw, still sells 5 valve engine.
the only mistake, i might see here, that it is more exspensive, it need more parts and interruptions of the production line, to build others.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
for sure 2.0 wih 150 PS arent economical..
long time ago honda reach 160 PS from 1.6 engine. (benzin)
which "new" line of VW engines are 5 valves system ?
sweetbounty 2 years ago
i know, that smal civic vtec from the crx did that.
but that was an exeption.
the normal civic with vtec was, if i remember correct 110ps.
but it's a high rpm machine, i think contineu racing trafficlights, wil get boring, the engine noise, although it sound pretty sweet.
but how long with it last?
a 6000+ rmp machine against a relax running 2.0 engine.
like i said, you need fast 0-100km/h and when possible, with no noise, you don't want that people can hear you comming.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
ok nevermind coz I know this all what u writing of
Did u have an exeprience with S60 T5 engines ? 250 PS ?
sweetbounty 2 years ago
no, never drove it, but i did repair a volvo 850 t5 estate, police in holland used it.
the police in the U.K. also.
it's a car for salesman on the road.
(due to economical reasons), i have a '94 vectra 2.5 24v stocked, a engine designed by coswordt, 5 speed gearbox, only 170hp and something like 2100 pounds in weight, it's a rocked.
4 cyl with gearbox, are better for the 50km/h speed limit
stop and go traffic makes a 5-6-8 cyl engine lazy, to much gear change or drive high rpm in 2nd gear.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
hmm well I saw one s60 T5 and if u compare this to vectra 2.5 V6 24 V it is a real rocket , u can get 7 sec to 100km/h easily so it's not bad as a salesman's car...

V8 TDI is 4 vales per cylinder engine

enter audi 5 valve 2009 in google.
the vectra does 7.3 or 7.5 to do 0-100km/h acelleration.
(but you need to skilled with the gearbox, because it reaches 6000rpm realy fast and cuts off there, realy anoying if you having fun overtaken people on a 2 lane landroad.
even thoug i realy enjoy engines, i recommend 4 cyl for daily use.
it's just more practical.
automatic sucks, unles it's a DSG, pdk or any other dual clutch system.
witch acellerate faster and more efficient.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
I did - there's no new 5 valves engines ( rest is all know old engines)
anyway s60 T5 got 250 PS so there is no way u could beat it without serious modifications in vectra engine (stock had 8 sec to 100km/h)
I u consider about economy put an LPG there.
generally automatic gearboxes sucks
sweetbounty 2 years ago
clearly, not it's '94 car
: )
i'm planning to buy a used audi A8 4.2 or 3.3 diesel. it has a better fuel economy than the vectra.
restore the drive train from a tot z (gearbox, suspention, differentials, wheel bearings, axles) and drive it til falls apart.
(depending on how i get it, i overhaul this or the other, but wheel bearings, axles and suspention wil be overhauled.
i have been thinking about this cars for over atleast 3 year
the dsp is cool, it's slighly faster from 0 to 100km/h.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
dsg is also more fuel effcient than a gearbox
a normal auto trannie is les fuel efficient.
close to 2 liter more on the 100km than a normal gearbox.
but a 8 cyl with a normal gearbox wil die sooner, you change alot.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
check my typos, there are more than one of them.
i know it's only 1 chain on the 4 cyl and 2 of these chains on some of the v6.
europeans have a more tight tax system.
some people like diesel, but want buy one, because they don't make that many km anualy. people that drive lots, like 60.000, but a diesel.
diesel cars are higher taxed @ buy and anualy.
naturalyshocked 2 years ago
diesel cars have also a higher resel price, than gasoline engines.
you can buy a used audi a8(8 years old) for 10.000€ +/-, you can buy a smal diesel new for 10.000 and stil resel for it more than 2000€ after 8 yeas.
