  • John Hartford shoots. . .he scores!

  • The Leadbelly tune is a completely different song. This was written by Hartford during the Areo Plain/Morning Bugle era (ca. 1972).

A slightly different version can be found on "Steam Powered Aereo-Takes", a 2000 release featuring additional songs recorded at the same time as "Aereo Plain". This version features unbelievably sweet fiddling from Vassar Clements and an additional chorus.

  • what year was this written?

  • @oreosmells14

I'm not sure when it was written. A studio recording featuring John (banjo & vocal), Norman Blake (guitar), and Dave Holland (upright bass) was included on John's 1972 Warner Bros. album, "Morning Bugle".

  • @Glendoras @oreosmells14 @RUuser It was written by Leadbelly in the 40s

  • @oreosmells14 I think it was written around the time the album was to be recorded (Morning Bugle).

  • Thanks for adding this, he's a treasure in England too...
