I'm a CrossFitter and I'm all for CrossFit. I'm NOT for the vulgar language. It's uncalled for. Not necessary and not professional for an athlete in the spotlight.
lmao! the program looks ok, but most of the participants appear to act like stuck up arseholes with retardedly massive egos. If I had to train with a bunch of people like that I think I'd just quit.
@The1stPoster Not all of them are like the guys you've seen in this vid. Besides there's people with massive egos everywhere. Powerlifter, Olympic lifters, bodybuilders, even the douchebags doing 7 different kinds of curls in a lifting session
in my life I have run a 4:45 mile and a 17:21 5K. I have also squated 585 lbs raw no knee wraps below parallel and deadlifted 675. Are there any crossfitters out there that have done something similar. In my experience a crossfit program would be ineffective at accomplishing these goals and therefore I deem crossfit to be ineffective.
@gyuftycfytc no.why do you ask me this. what could possibly be accomplished by running a 5k the day after squatting. it would ruin any gains you could have made by the squat workout.
@natekid4 How would he ruin the gain of him squatting 585? Its a different work out and putting his legs through another workout, he's only strengthening them more by running and loosening them up and workin em out again instead of his legs stiffening up and being even more sore and putting him out fo workin for days at a time.
@russebla000 i agree he would be loosening them up but the legs require 3 days rest to recover from a proper squat workout. during this rest time a little blood flow is ok but a 5k would fatigue the muscle and perhaps even stop the anabolic process. In my personal experience squats with heavy weight have a negative effect on a cross country runners performance. Long distance running also has a negative effect on longterm progression in the squat to elite levels.
@yuppyguitar1 Doesn't build strength efficiently? I have a 500 lb. deadlift, a 355 lb. back squat, 265 lb. clean & jerk, and I can still run a 6:20 mile, 1:08 400m, and a 3:13 1000m row. How are your numbers looking?
I am a five time marathon runner and I run about 50 miles or more a week. I did my first crossfit workout at UA Crossfit a few months ago and got completely destroyed!!! I was more sore the next day than from running 26.2 miles. I'm doing 4 days a week now in addition to my running and I'm hooked! It totally exposed all my weaknesses and made me a stronger runner...
@mow4cash lots of them are coaches (james fitzgerald, dutch lowy, josh everett, john welbourn, rich froning, graham holmberg, etc.) The guy who took 3rd this year at the games is a college student (ben smith). Some of them are in the military, not a lot. Not really many office job people though, if that's what you're asking.
Lol dude says crosfitters are not strong??? Well I've done all types of working out and Crossfit rates number one for me. It really creates all aspects of being fit. You can't knock it.
If you think crossfitters aren't strong look up Chris Spealler he is about 140# and squats and deadlifts twice or more his own body weight, look up Pat Barber, Mikko Salo, Matt Chan and Dave Lipson.
The thing I hate is how much people argue about which is better, CrossFit or other types of fitness. The way I see it, as long as you are getting up and doing something everyday is what is important. I understand why some people get upset saying it's arrogant for CrossFit games to declare the winner the fittest on Earth, as I'm sure Graham Holmberg could not win Hawaiian Ironman. Specificity. I love CrossFit, but please stop debating, all exercise is good.
Crossfit Specializes in being Mediocre.. When you try to develop all the biomotor abilities and areas of fitness, then they will all collectively suffer and never meet their true potential.. this however is the price of trying to develop complete fitness..
ive boxed (14 fights) done mauythai(37 fights) mma (2 pro fights) and ive started doing crossfit for the past 2 weeks, and ill tell you what, this is the hardest thing ive ever done,HIT training has to be the best, and crossfit is the best!!!!!!!!
@kycat2007 My complaints have only to do with the "better than everyone" attitude that seems to be permanently affixed to the system. Which is why I go out of my way to prove that without doing "CrossFit" I can steal beat most CF'ers-at their own game. If that attitude was removed from the program instead of being indoctrinated- I would do nothing but commend it on its decent system. I would still ID the problems like uneducated trainers and lack of strength training-its just incomplete.
I tried CrossFit. I did like it along with the Paleo Diet. I just stopped because I wasn't getting the "beach body look." I just do it every once in a while to keep the strength but do some people get the beach body looks doing CrossFit? I've seen some strong ass guys who do CrossFit but they don't look strong. They actually have a deceiving looking appearance, it looks like some of them do not work out but have insane strength & cardio. Can somebody explain why that is? Genetics? Routines? Etc.
1:25 weak suace! thats what happens when ur thinking about ur girl friend and not the task at hand! "i hope my girl is wearing that skirt i like. uuh balls!"
I think everyone is losing sight of what CrossFit tries to achieve - fitness. Being "fit" means that you are proficient in all areas of fitness - Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, & accuracy. If you are not proficient in all of these areas, you cannot claim to be "fit." Take a look at that list & analyze yourself. Are you really proficient in all of these areas? Maybe, but chances are that you aren't.
@lefeve crossfitters are not strong so take that out of the criteria, show me one crossfiter who can deadlift 2.5x their weight, squat 2.5x their weight and benchpress at least 1.5x their weight. You can't. Crossfitters focus on agility, stamina, cardio, speed and endurance. They strive to be fit and that is all.
@nickmayer152 Isn't fitness the goal everyone should strive for? Benching and Squatting are a good measure of strength, but certainly not the only gauge of strength/power. In a fight, I'd rather have someone who is "fit" and a well rounded athlete than someone who specializes in a certain aspect of fitness such as powerlifting or distance running. Why do you think the majority of MMA fighters do crossfit, or a program very similar to it?
@vikingfootball92 i never said one was better than the other, all i said is crossfitters are not strong physically, however in my opinion its good to have diversity in your training
@nickmayer152 Crossfitters are not strong physically? Chris Spealer is 145 lbs and can put double his bodyweight over his head. Dave Lipson Deadlifts 600+, Squats 550+, and shoulder presses 225+. Rob Orlando and Josh Everett are very close. All 4 of these athletes are crossfitters. Tell me that isn't "physically strong".
@yuppyguitar1 Doesn't build strength? Are you trolling or are you really just that stupid? Crossfit is based on fitness programs developed for military and police elite teams (SEALs, S.F., SWAT, etc.) and you don't have the first clue what fighting is about. All the top MMA guys do similar routines in their training and workouts.
@Thoraxia1 You are right, all serious athletes do Cross Training, but ... there's a little catch ... They do CROSS TRAINING - has been around for very long time, before Glassman was born :-) CrossFit is a BRAND, to say that athletes do CF is like to say that I eat Quaker for breakfast, while, in fact, I eat OATS and NOT Quaker, see the difference ?
@valgez1 I wasn't defending Crossfit (the company), I was defending people who do cross training like this. I responded to a guy that commented that this kind of training doesn't develop strength. Everyone from football players, college wrestlers, MMA, boxing to special forces does this kind of training. The guy that said that is an idiot.
@ChristianSutphin GIving a name to bad form doesn't make it cease to be bad form. The whole purpose of a pullup is to exercise the lats. Using your legs and momentum to take stress of the lats is just cheating so you can do more than would be possible with proper form.
@nickmayer152 Andy Gallego Deadlifts 455 at 150 Lbs,... there is a lot of crossfitters out there like this, do your research then talk shit. He's also a rescue swimmer in the navy, so you know hes got endurence
@danomcquillan listen muthafucka, anyone can do powerlifting, get strong and then do crossfit afterwards, but thats not the majority, out of the hundreds or thousands or whatever of crossfitters only a handful are strong and they became strong from resistance training and not from crossfitting, and why the fuck do you have your panties in a bunch to where you go research and look for names who are strong and crossfit, get a life
@lefeve Crossfit is a way to be mediocre at all of the things you mentioned. Many of the criticisms here are based on that. Given a specific goal, there are more efficient ways to achieve that over a mediocre one size fits all program like crossift.
@yuppyguitar1 there are more efficient ways to achieve a specific goal than crossfit... this is true.
however as far as overall functional fitness goes, crossfit is by far one of the most efficient, quickest and best ways to achieve.
Gym Jones and in Australia 'The Mill' are similar to crossfit, but do admittedly provide better specific programs for individual needs, but foran average joe who wants to not only drop body fat but run faster, further, lift more, perform more reps, crossfit is gold
@lefeve I know you posted a year ago, but I had to respond. Being "fit" by crossfit's definition is exactly what you just described. Being "fit" in general means many different things to many different people. Being fit as a crossfitter is very different than being fit as a powerlifter or a marathon runner. All of these people are undoubtedly fit, but in different areas. You can accept crossfit's definition of fitness, but look elsewhere and you'll find many different, acceptable definitions.
The reason CrossFit wants their champions to claim that they are the fittest person in the world is because that makes other people want to do CrossFit so they make more money...
Crossfit is for weekend warriors in their 30's and up who are trying to compensate for their prior failed fitness and athletic endeavors from school, and believing some delusional idea that they are now becoming comparable to elite professional athletes.
@dnj23 You're an idiot; have you seen their bodies? Have you seen the weights they lift? Have you ever tried to snatch 135lbs, 30 times, in 71 seconds? Have a look at Josh Everett. You have no clue.
Have I seen their bodies? Give me a break. Most of them are bald, mid 30 twinks. Yes, there are exceptional athletes in any endeavor. I wouldn't mock crossfit so much if they adopted a more modest mentality and stopped with these pretentious, gay videos
My Crossfit instructor, retired SEAL, said that crossfit workouts were better workouts from a fitness standpoint; more balanced. BUD/S used to be biased towards grueling bodyweight stuff at the expense of raw power. Its changing though due to crossfit. I think the major challenge of BUD/S is the ongoing mental beatdown day in day out until hell week. BUD/S is like the tour de france in that regard...
Sorry, dont like posers (not calling you one, since you claim that you haven't been through BUD/s) but like everyone else is saying, crossfitters have all around abilities, i.e. weights, running, gymnastics, etc.
@mdott I didn't even come remotely close to saying "I went through BUD/S". I saw the end where the guy said "The winner has the claim to say 'I am the fittest person on the planet'" I just wanted to compare whatever they did to BUD/S. That's all. lol why do you seem so upset? your excessive question marks make it seem like you're very anxious? ..or upset?
Why? what is fitness? Isn't fitness that you have vascular endurance for long and for shorter intensive workouts. And that you can lift heavy and also can do loads of heavy lifts with high reps.
Crossfit isn't training for anything specific. So by fittest person on the planet, they mean someone who can run, oly lift, use a sledgehammer, or whatever. If you're training for a specific sport, you should definitely have a segment of training specifically for that sport. But if you are working for all around fitness, Crossfit is a better fit. Most people I know can only run or lift, not both. Add rowing and gymnastics, and most people just can't do it.
Crossfit is a generalist sport, you dont train for crossfit. If all you think it is, is the same excercises over and over and think you only get better at crossfit by doing crossfit your an idiot. You must not have seen OPT do wheel barrel runs, rope swings, etc. you can train with crossfit by doing anything nearly at high intensity. the 09 games they had a sledge event. I agree they are the fittest men and women on the planet.and The1CamBo, your an idiot probably some wanna be tapout fool.
CrossFitters are not the fittest people on the planet. The top decathletes (Clay, Sebrle, Hardee, Suarez, etc.) and heptathletes (Kluft, Ennis, Dobrynska, Zelinka, etc.) would crush anyone in CF after doing 6 months of CF WODs. However, the current top CrossFitters would not come close to the best decathletes/heptathletes after doing track workouts for 6 months.
I'm a Crossfit addict and have competed in the Games and I have to agree with you. My buddy that I train with is one of the top 100m sprinters in the country and even he would kill anyone if he trained specifically for crossfit.
but they dont. So they're not. You both said IF they trained crossfit for x amount of time. That is stating that they have deficiencies that need to be corrected.
There is so much athletic talent out there that it is hard to imagine that Mikko Salo is, in theory, the fittest man on the planet. However, theory is useless unless proven and no one has proven themselves above him.
I've been giving crossfit a lot of thought, but am not yet completely sold on it. One thing that plagues crossfit is that the lack of organization, flexibility, and readablity. If you plan to do crossfit, be prepared to spend at least a full day or two just trying to figure out whats what. As for the WODs. Some can be done, but some cannot due to lack of equipment which is really irritating. For most this is a "gym only" program. Trying to find a gym to do the WODs is another story.
To everyone bashing CrossFit, obviously none of you have ever done a WOD. Go do a few WOD's like Fran, Elizabeth, Murphy , Tommy V....then come back and post....
Your all fat slobs that sit behind a computer that just hate the fact that you couldn't do what most CrossFitters do.
@yellinfitness I puked twice during my first workout. Puking, along with my entire body feeling like I got hit by a frieght train the next few days is enough to convince me that this is most definitely the BEST workout. There is a reason why MMA fighters use this for conditioning. We did CrossFit workouts in the military, and a few years later, most civilians I know still have never heard of it.
@yellinfitness ACTUALLY, I can run a 4:30 mile, a 1:32 half marathon, bench press 315, squat 405, deadlift 385 X 3, and do 28 pullups WITH form, all at 177 lbs. Aannnnddd I never do CrossFit. I do a lot of workouts that LOOK like CrossFit, I just don't get sucked into your egomaniacal gym cult that seems to think its the only way to be fit. I don't think there is much wrong with CrossFit, I am just sick of the elitists who think its the end all/ be all of fitness, CUZ IT AINT.
Nothing is the end all. I'm glad you do workout's that "look" like CrossFit - this just supports the idea that the CrossFit methodology works. CrossFit is just a name. You post impressive stats, so obviously the type of training you do works well, whether you consider it "CrossFit" or workouts that are "like CrossFit" which to me, means , you do more or less the same thing. You just seemed to be turned off by the branding of the name , which people tend to get wrapped up on.
@yellinfitness That is my point exactly. Point in case, lets say I go online to the WOD, I write it down on a piece of paper, then at the top of the paper, I write "Gym Jones." I then go to a CrossFit gym, get about 6 guys, and say, "Hey guys I think today instead of the workout your doing you should do this workout from Gym Jones." I will bet money that at least a few of the guys would look at the workout, then shoot holes in it, not all, but some.
@yellinfitness ACTUALLY, I can run a 4:30 mile, a 1:32 half marathon, bench press 315, squat 405, deadlift 385 X 3, and do 28 pullups WITH form, all at 177 lbs. Aannnnddd I never do CrossFit. @yellinfitness i agree with your comment about doing a WOD... but i feel the list doesnt pay it justice... WOD's like Fran although smash you if done at high intensity, for most non-CrossFitters they simply wont go that fast and it wont seem all that bad...
i'd have said something like hit a Filthy 50, Angie or Elizabeth or Tommy V
the longer, harder, smashing workouts that take the ticker to finish...
Yes crossfitters sound cocky. But they have good reason to be. There cardiorespiratory, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and body composition is far superior to that of not only the average person but the average athlete. Any crossfitter taking part in the crossfit games is an elite athlete and nothing less.
Distance runners specialize in distance. Powerlifters, football players, oly lifters specialize in power. Crossfit specializes in being medicore everywhere.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I bet most of you people who disagree and talk shit about crossfit are just guys who do curls and bench presses and think there all badass. DO a 3 minute FRAN then you can talk but if you think curls and bench presses are all to working out then your mistaken
Yeah! Everyone on do improper form Olympic lifts and bullshit kipping pull-ups on the sand! That is what makes them real men! How about your crossfit assholes grow some ball hair and do some real strict-form no bullshit power lifting.
@kycat2007 You obviously have no basis for your theory. I've known two people who played in the NFL. How many do you know? Both of the guys I know could run 5 miles in 35 minutes, deadlift/squat high 400s and benched in the high 300's. And ran probably 4.5 40's. Thats the only two I know because they were in the military with me. That level 8 in all sports is BS. MAYBE a 6 in all sports and a 7 in soccer. Come play rugby with me CrossFitters. I'll run you over to get my try.
@blackbelt42boxer my point being that despite the fact he is a tremendous athlete who has accomplished things i could never dream of...he got his ass royally handed to him at these 2008 crossfit games, finishing somewhere in the 90's in terms of placing, while the oly lifter/xfitter in this named josh everett finished 3rd
"The fittest person on the planet" Really? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a little arrogant? There are other athletes out there, other sports too. If you're so damn fit, join the NFL guy.
how does being the fittest person on the planet carry over into playing in the NFL, its a competition for the fittest person on the planet so the winner is declared the fittest person o the planet, and do u even know who any of the winners were?
a person who does crossfit would get smoked on the ballfield. a person who does crossfit trains to do crossfit. a person who plays football, trains to play football. a wrestler trains to wrestle. i don't agree one bit with the statement that the crossfit winner can claim to be the fittest person in the world. they can claim to be the best person at crossfit, but that's all.
Not to be confrontational here but let me see if I can get the point across to you. Lets take Lance Armstrong, he is a fit guy right? If a workout consist of a 100 mile bike ride, I bet on him to win. Now you take an elite CrossFitter and put him on a bike and he will finish but not win. Now you take lance an dhave him deadlift 275lbs in a workout he fails. The elite CorssFitter finishes that workout. Have Lance on a Football field he sucks it up. The CrossFitter holds his own.
i don't agree. crossfit will not make you good in all aspects of sport. crossfit will make you weak and make you more prone to injury due to lack of strength training, stretching, etc.
I am a 39 year old man. I never played sport in highschool etc. I love sports mind you just never played. In October I started CrossFit and have made huge strength gains. I am 5'8 and weigh 170lbs. My deadlift has gone from 185 to 335lbs. My shoulder press from 135 to 170. I am not sure if you have seen the strenght day workouts but they are there. We train the oly lifts and the barbell. Rippietow and Burgener are some of our teachers.
@kycat2007 You're 39 and performing stats I hit when I was 17 and I am 5 7 and 177 lbs. The high school BFS program would give you better results than you have posted there.
@kycat2007 You say so many stupid things. You HAVE NO BASIS for the things that come out of your fingers. WTF is an elite CrossFitter? How about the top 100 people in this stupid comp? I would guess less than HALF could finish the Tour De France in a month and Its 2,200 miles in less than 21 days. Probably none could finish it in time. I am a far superior all around athlete than most of these jokers and I know I couldn't finish it with 3 months of trainup.
@kycat2007 Yep epic fail. The Tour De France is 2200 miles. I'm betting less than 1% of 1% of Xfitters worldwide can 'finish' that in the standard 3 weeks. Now I will bet you that at least 2% of all the guys in the Tour can finish most WOD's. Sooo in summary, your argument sucks.
Try finishing 20 reps grace, 2 leg cranks, 400 m run, 40 rounds of 2 clapping pushups, knee to elbow and toe to bar, then a 400 m run, 2 leg cranks, 20 reps grace, 400 m run in 30 minutes or less.
I doubt any biker, even on steroids in the Tour de France would be able to finish that.
What an uneducated statement. True, specialization in any area will make you better. But overall fitness level of these people following crossfit is through the roof! Hardest. Workouts. Ever. I speak from experience, this shit works! Obviously you've never tried any WOD before. Good quote I heard about crossfiters
"We'll be almost as good as you at your game, you wont come even close at ours. And we'll beat you in anything else!"
@Colinchedda Hey man. Pick any CrossFit workout and film yourself doing it for time. Post it. I'll do the workout once to see how it feels, then I'll do it again three days later and film it. I know nothing about you and I bet I can beat you. I'll post my vid as a response to yours. Just message me with your post.
I think the distinction not being made is that yes, a football player trains for football; but crossfitters train for all round functional fitness. Crossfit isn't so tangible that you can train for it. It has staple exercises, but getting good at them is simply the means of achieving fitness.
Good CF gyms/trainers are nice, but the problem now is you have idiots with no athletic background getting their level 1 and opening a box, pushing clients when they don't even know good form themselves. I watched a box owner squat like 6 inches high with heavy weight (aka 315lbs, not heavy) during a demo at a drop in class, it was just embarrassing. CF is great as it gets people training, it just needs to lose the damn ego.
I've been doing CF for 2 1/2 years, and I think that you are dead on. The only real objection I have with CF is that it is way too easy to get certified...if we are really producing elite fitness, we need to be sure that we are starting by ensuring that we have elite trainers.
I would say that not every trainer is going to be an elite athlete. They may not be able to actually do all the work themselves. The object is to increase work capacity. I woul dhope that in time a level 1 cert'd person would get cert'd in barbell and oly lifts as well. With the possibility at some oint in the future to be level 2 certed
Um, as far as I know, I don't know any units that have implemented it into daily PT. Some guys do it occasionally or even frequently but we also supplement with REAL lifting and REAL cardio.
@Tim2of75 When you say "we" do you mean everyone in Batt, SF, SEAL Teams, and Recon? You also mis-read my post. I'm talking about a soldiers PT besides the regular morning PT BS.
Just cause one man adhere's to a crossfit regiment and another doesn't, doesn't make either right or wrong. You have your thing and others have theirs.
You talk about the "better then everyone" sydrome, yet you're posting shit saying "I bet I can beat you".
@mdott Your statement was that UNITS, not individual operators were implementing crossfit into daily PT. And you're second paragraph is the point I am arguing! You aren't even realizing that you are agreeing with me on everything because you are simply taking a defensive stance. I don't deny the effectiveness of CrossFit- I am simply arguing it is not THE ONLY ONE TRUE WAY. My defeating a CF'r at their own sport is only to disprove their advertised arrogance. Read colinchedda's post.
I LOVE CROSSFIT ;) And if it was really as awful as all you haters say then there would not be THOUSANDS of affiliates operating and doing well ALL OVER THE WORLD. So say what you would like because those who do it, and do it right love it and live it. And phatneazy...really? that's the best dis you have? Wow I hope your like 7 because if your any older that is really sad :(
Crossfit is dangerous BS! I trained with a 'certified' CF instructor. I gained weight and it wasn't all muscle. (NO CHANGE IN DIET) I injured my shoulder. And I had significant drop in VO2Max (7%) and depressed immune system.
And I know a little about exercise physiology. The CF model is very, very dangerous. It is a sure recipe for OTS. (overtraining)
There are many better cross training styles that can give you functional fitness needed for whatever your endeavor!
In the words of coach Glassman, "We do what you do almost as well as you, you can't do our stuff at all, and we do what neither of us do better than you can". Coach Glassmann.
rockad, if you're suffering "knees & shoulders"...you're doing it wrong...
I get that you're just not into CrossFit, that's fine...for you..you can keep your Globogym. There's a reason CF is the fastest growing gym in the world. It works!
As far as never getting your butt kicked by a girl...I'd like to see you go up against the likes of Jolie Gentry,
F***ing right its a bold statement. Youre pretty bold for being so stupid. Do you undderstand the level of fitness it takes to accomplish the times on these workouts. Get off the computer and get to your local crossfit gym you pussy.
Crossfit is a great base for workouts. I've been using it for about a year with great results. As for the cost of a crossfit trainer or membership, its online for FREE. Just do the workouts, scale as needed & watch the videos to get your form down. If your knees & shoulders can't handle an exercise for the day then don't do it. I've got bad knees & shoulders from HS football & crossfit has helped to stabilize these joints better than anything. Crossfit is fantastic if used with common sense.
A. i wouldn't pay one cent to a crossfit coach. B. i don't suck and my form doesn't suck. i learned from former olympic lifters and powerlifters... for free... at a local gym (not bally's) C. how is doing 75lb snatches for reps functional? and then following that up with some other random exercise? D. i can bench a house, i can clean a house, i can squat a house, i can do pull ups (real pull ups) all day long, i can run, i can swim, etc, etc, etc. all without crossfit.
OK, i just paid attention to the video for the first time and found it laughable. it's great that this stuff has motivated some people, but it all seems so silly. to each hos own, though.
i did this stuff for a while, but the results were less than desirable. my run time improved, but everything else suffered, including my knees and shoulders! i also found it difficult to follow because of lack of periodization and found it hard to set goals . workouts just didn't flow right. i think this is good for beginners or people who just want to get off the couch, but not for guys who've been around the block already. off to get my lifts back up to par :)
Are you Joking!!! Your lifts up to par!??!?!? The whole point of crossfit is to be functional. If your just concentrating on lifts then you are anything but functional. How long was a while? a couple of days, weeks, months? Im 155 and I can clean and Jerk 290lbs and deadlift 400. I doubt you've been around the block and if you have you probobly walked around it pussy. Its great if you can lift alot but next time you get in a scrap and your gassed to shit, tell the other guy you can bench 400lbs
the top athletes at most affiliates don't even place top 10 at the qualifiers. with that said, those guys/gals are phenomenal fucking athletes and more "fit" than 98% of the people that walk the earth.
then work out a deal some the owner......do something but don't give up.....crossfit is the great "gym" out there.....you can't the same results anywhere else
Ohio BABY!!! Now who's going to front me some money for a starter gym?

@russebla000 i agree he would be loosening them up but the legs require 3 days rest to recover from a proper squat workout. during this rest time a little blood flow is ok but a 5k would fatigue the muscle and perhaps even stop the anabolic process. In my personal experience squats with heavy weight have a negative effect on a cross country runners performance. Long distance running also has a negative effect on longterm progression in the squat to elite levels.

@yuppyguitar1 Doesn't build strength efficiently? I have a 500 lb. deadlift, a 355 lb. back squat, 265 lb. clean & jerk, and I can still run a 6:20 mile, 1:08 400m, and a 3:13 1000m row. How are your numbers looking?

Genetics? Routines? Etc.

Maybe, but chances are that you aren't.
lefeve 1 year ago 26
@lefeve crossfitters are not strong so take that out of the criteria, show me one crossfiter who can deadlift 2.5x their weight, squat 2.5x their weight and benchpress at least 1.5x their weight. You can't. Crossfitters focus on agility, stamina, cardio, speed and endurance. They strive to be fit and that is all.
nickmayer152 1 year ago
@nickmayer152 Isn't fitness the goal everyone should strive for? Benching and Squatting are a good measure of strength, but certainly not the only gauge of strength/power. In a fight, I'd rather have someone who is "fit" and a well rounded athlete than someone who specializes in a certain aspect of fitness such as powerlifting or distance running. Why do you think the majority of MMA fighters do crossfit, or a program very similar to it?
vikingfootball92 1 year ago
@vikingfootball92 i never said one was better than the other, all i said is crossfitters are not strong physically, however in my opinion its good to have diversity in your training
nickmayer152 1 year ago
@nickmayer152 Crossfitters are not strong physically? Chris Spealer is 145 lbs and can put double his bodyweight over his head. Dave Lipson Deadlifts 600+, Squats 550+, and shoulder presses 225+. Rob Orlando and Josh Everett are very close. All 4 of these athletes are crossfitters. Tell me that isn't "physically strong".
vikingfootball92 10 months ago
@vikingfootball92 Because fighting is about technique and stamina not strength. And crossfit doesnt build strength efficiently.
yuppyguitar1 1 year ago
@yuppyguitar1 Doesn't build strength? Are you trolling or are you really just that stupid? Crossfit is based on fitness programs developed for military and police elite teams (SEALs, S.F., SWAT, etc.) and you don't have the first clue what fighting is about. All the top MMA guys do similar routines in their training and workouts.
Thoraxia1 8 months ago
@Thoraxia1 You are right, all serious athletes do Cross Training, but ... there's a little catch ... @valgez1 I wasn't defending Crossfit (the company), I was defending people who do cross training like this. I responded to a guy that commented that this kind of training doesn't develop strength. @danomcquillan listen muthafucka, anyone can do powerlifting, get strong and then do crossfit afterwards, but thats not the majority, out of the hundreds or thousands or whatever of crossfitters only a handful are strong and they became strong from resistance training and not from crossfitting, and why the fuck do you have your panties in a bunch to where you go research and look for names who are strong and crossfit, get a life
nickmayer152 1 year ago
@lefeve Crossfit is a way to be mediocre at all of the things you mentioned. Many of the criticisms here are based on that. Given a specific goal, there are more efficient ways to achieve that over a mediocre one size fits all program like crossift.
yuppyguitar1 1 year ago
@yuppyguitar1 there are more efficient ways to achieve a specific goal than crossfit... this is true.
however as far as overall functional fitness goes, crossfit is by far one of the most efficient, quickest and best ways to achieve.
Gym Jones and in Australia 'The Mill' are similar to crossfit, but do admittedly provide better specific programs for individual needs, but foran average joe who wants to not only drop body fat but run faster, further, lift more, perform more reps, crossfit is gold
loccybassman90 8 months ago
@lefeve I know you posted a year ago, but I had to respond. Being "fit" by crossfit's definition is exactly what you just described. Being "fit" in general means many different things to many different people. Being fit as a crossfitter is very different than being fit as a powerlifter or a marathon runner. All of these people are undoubtedly fit, but in different areas. You can accept crossfit's definition of fitness, but look elsewhere and you'll find many different, acceptable definitions.

Nothing is the end all. I'm glad you do workout's that "look" like CrossFit - this just supports the idea that the CrossFit methodology works. CrossFit is just a name. You just seemed to be turned off by the branding of the name , which people tend to get wrapped up on.
yellinfitness 1 year ago
@yellinfitness That is my point exactly. Point in case, lets say I go online to the WOD, I write it down on a piece of paper, then at the top of the paper, I write "Gym Jones." I then go to a CrossFit gym, get about 6 guys, and say, "Hey guys I think today instead of the workout your doing you should do this workout from Gym Jones." I will bet money that at least a few of the guys would look at the workout, then shoot holes in it, not all, but some.

The CrossFitter holds his own.
kycat2007 2 years ago 2

I am a far superior all around athlete than most of these jokers and I know I couldn't finish it with 3 months of trainup.
Tim2of75 1 year ago
@kycat2007 Yep epic fail. The Tour De France is 2200 miles. I'm betting less than 1% of 1% of Xfitters worldwide can 'finish' that in the standard 3 weeks. Now I will bet you that at least 2% of all the guys in the Tour can finish most WOD's. Sooo in summary, your argument sucks.
Tim2of75 1 year ago
@Tim2of75 No, they won't be able to finish a WOD.

I think the distinction not being made is that yes, a football player trains for football; but crossfitters train for all round functional fitness. Crossfit isn't so tangible that you can train for it. It has staple exercises, but getting good at them is simply the means of achieving fitness.
sybo59 2 years ago 3

90cta395 2 years ago 2
I would say that not every trainer is going to be an elite athlete. They may not be able to actually do all the work themselves. The object is to increase work capacity. I woul dhope that in time a level 1 cert'd person would get cert'd in barbell and oly lifts as well. With the possibility at some oint in the future to be level 2 certed

the funny thing is, if crossfit is so dangerous and blah blah blah why are alot of socom units implementing crossfit into there daily pt...
mdott 2 years ago
Um, as far as I know, I don't know any units that have implemented it into daily PT. Some guys do it occasionally or even frequently but we also supplement with REAL lifting and REAL cardio.
Tim2of75 1 year ago
@Tim2of75 When you say "we" do you mean everyone in Batt, SF, SEAL Teams, and Recon? You also mis-read my post. I'm talking about a soldiers PT besides the regular morning PT BS.
Just cause one man adhere's to a crossfit regiment and another doesn't, doesn't make either right or wrong. You have your thing and others have theirs.
You talk about the "better then everyone" sydrome, yet you're posting shit saying "I bet I can beat you".
So much for quiet professional. 2/75?
mdott 1 year ago
@mdott Your statement was that UNITS, not individual operators were implementing crossfit into daily PT. And you're second paragraph is the point I am arguing! You aren't even realizing that you are agreeing with me on everything because you are simply taking a defensive stance. I don't deny the effectiveness of CrossFit- I am simply arguing it is not THE ONLY ONE TRUE WAY. My defeating a CF'r at their own sport is only to disprove their advertised arrogance. Read colinchedda's post.

@Tim2of75 Roger, I digress

If you just train for crossfit you wont make it in the real world. it can be used as a tool to sharpen but specificity is key if you want to be great
jspanx21 2 years ago
Only if you want to specialize in a specific sport. If your goal is just all-around fitness, Crossfit will work better than other programs.

The initial gains are great, but they come at a very high cost! It's mind numbing egomanical BS!
jacksonswastedlife 2 years ago

Crossfit is fantastic if used with common sense.

rockad1054 probably tried to do a xfit workout but couldn't even finish 1 round

oh yeah, and i would never get my butt kicked by a female. crossfag or not.
rockad1054 2 years ago
A. i wouldn't pay one cent to a crossfit coach. B. i don't suck and my form doesn't suck. i learned from former olympic lifters and powerlifters... for free... at a local gym (not bally's) C. how is doing 75lb snatches for reps functional? and then following that up with some other random exercise? D. i can bench a house, i can clean a house, i can squat a house, i can do pull ups (real pull ups) all day long, i can run, i can swim, etc, etc, etc. all without crossfit.
rockad1054 2 years ago
You're saying all this shit, but where's the proof??
spankmeeh 2 years ago
OK, i just paid attention to the video for the first time and found it laughable. it's great that this stuff has motivated some people, but it all seems so silly. to each hos own, though.
rockad1054 2 years ago
i did this stuff for a while, but the results were less than desirable. my run time improved, but everything else suffered, including my knees and shoulders! i also found it difficult to follow because of lack of periodization and found it hard to set goals . workouts just didn't flow right. i think this is good for beginners or people who just want to get off the couch, but not for guys who've been around the block already. off to get my lifts back up to par :)
rockad1054 2 years ago

Respect for those who Crossfit - I would join you if I could. You are how a "gym" should be.
