i just saw an inerview w dave as a teen and he said they started out with two guitars - bass and regular. they just made the conversion to synth because it was cheaper and suited to their style. but they never forgot how to play ........... cool

The original album version is sung by Dave with Martin doing backing vocals. However, when I saw them live, Martin sang it. I wonder why this version was never released as a single? It's so amazing.

I have never heard this version before. I have only heard the album version and the live version in which Martin sang the song. Every single member of Depeche Mode is genius. Dave is the soul, Martin is the heart, Fletch the brains, Alan (at the time) the muscle. This is one of those rare DM songs that I don't care who sings--Dave or Martin--it all sounds good. The entire original single (with the A-side as "Only When I Lose Myself") sounds like it could be sung by Martin, but Dave does a great job too.

If DM comes anywhere near you on the tour next year, GO!! We have 3 generations who have gone together to the last 3 concerts...and DM concerts are the best show you will EVER see!! I think that they are BETTER live than recorded, cuz Dave puts on an amazing show... and they add great visuals! I can't sit down from the time they come on stage until its over... and I stay high off the memories for months... GO!!
