  • Sting is the perfect musician/artist to span across generations of pop/rock music fans, not to mention genres of music...rock on, Mr. Sumner!

  • all those kids are Scientologists now...

  • There was actually a clip of this on Reading Rainbow.

  • Now, if i could only find "Oh Bumbo Klaat" by the late, great, Peter Tosh, but maybe not. The lady screener at Caribbean-type radio station in Miami told me, when I requested "Bumbo," "O-oh no, Sah, I can-

not play dat one! It has profanity in it! I am sorry, Sah!" She was very sweet about it.. I only heard it on a juke box at the popular dive, Kitty's Bar, in Daytona Beach, back in the "80's. Enjoyed the arrangement, but never understood the lyrics. Kitty's is long gone. Try Crooks'.

  • If love is the seventh wave. Waves 1 through 6? Come on people!

  • The specifics are some surfing reference I do not undrstand.

The basics are be nice to other folks :)

  • Is it possible you are even more obscure than me?

  • Cmon),. I know some of U have awesome versions of this song Share it with me!!! please?) live, diff bands, U know Etc.... Cmon)),Share!!!!

  • All those young hard partying self-absorbed Hollywood starlets should listen to this song.

  • Damm remember when this was state of the art????

  • Sting is awesome

  • grande Sting

  • there was a show or movie and at the end there were i think one or two songs that sting did, one was like on a bus and it was animated. can some please help me on this one.

  • love this song, it's so happy, i wish it was summer again.

  • yes

  • Beautiful!

  • la storia della musica passa da qui

  • i would like to know who the artists were? The two videos i remember were Sting's and AHA's Artists were overdrawing film then. And it is very cool. Time to do it again, or malybe it is being done as we speak?

  • Brilliant video. Anyone know who directed it?

  • Played 'dream of the blue turtles' lp daily ...this being my first choice of all Sting's tunes. Recorded it among many of that eras memorable tunes on cassette. Remember that medium??? Sheesh, Technology is exponentially more progressive than duruing the previous generation.

"Good grief Linus," been flying toward 'higher ground' along with Steve Winwood in Traffic since the onset of the 'Beatle generation.' Am grateful too for 'the Police' bringing pop into the 'new wave' era of the 80's.

  • YES a GENIUS

    oh yes

  • ha ha, wow! now, if this tune and vid don't make you happy, nothing will! : D

  • I'm right there w/ya : )

  • Released in November 1985 off his first solo album which fit in the now limited pop scene. Song reminds me of someone special. Hope you life is wonderful, Michelle.

  • reminds me of MY michelle - better not be the same girl lol (if you live in Parma, OH ill end you :-D )

  • No kidding! I live in North Royalton!!

  • "Every breathe you take, every move you make, every cake you make". Great song! Sting rocks!

  • Lol! Every cake you bake, every leg you break!

  • LOL! Sting is a genius!

  • Absolutely!

  • This is great .

  • I LOVE it, hadn't heard this song in years. Love the children; dancing, singing, laughing.

  • great rythme great song

    vibin out ,

    lovin jah

  • Watch the movie "Papillion" with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. It's about a man trying to escape from an island prison. In order to escape, he has to jump off a cliff into the ocean. Through months of observation, he discovers that every 7th wave is bigger than the other six. Only that 7th wave is deep enough to prevent him crashing into the rocks below. Translation, love is the only thing that can free you from whatever existential prison you are in.

  • oh!

  • 3:29 Fantastic.

  • I googled seventh wave. In the surf, the largest wave is the seventh and it wipes out the other six. I cannont confirm, I don't live near the ocean. But I do love the imagery. He's a poet.

  • One of Sting's best ! {:-)

  • i love this song, but i've never understood what the other six waves are. does anyone know what the term "seventh wave" means?

  • I vaguely remember Sting mentioning something about how surfers considered the "seventh wave"

being the big one or the best one to ride on...

can't remember exactly what place he was

    talking about....

  • thanks, that makes sense.

  • You have to hold on untill the seventh wave came. That is probably the best wave. You had to wait for six waves.

  • its a surfing term, its something like the last wave in a group of seven is the strongest of them all, basically Sting is saying that love is more powerful and more important than anything else

  • You would be trippin xD

  • I love the way sting will reference other songs at the end of certain songs.

  • Actually, it's 24 yrs old. Came out in 1985.

"Dream of the Blue Turtles" album.

  • Just keep in mind this song is ~ 20 yrs old (2009) and yet it is still a valid message.

  • there is no deeper wave than love.

  • Love is Sting

  • I think this represents today's standard for sure...all the missles, all the symbols of our grief.

    Stop the war mongers.

  • Do you understand Anglo?

  • Where can I find ALL the lyrics. This must still be a work in progress...there's so many different versions. Can someone point me in the right direction?

  • I want his outfit.

    Only I couldn't wear it around my epileptic friends. ;_;

  • I purchased the cassette (well actually my mother did) when I was 10. I cant believe its been that long ... however Stings tunes - Timeless .... Every cake you bake ... every leg you break !!

  • I bought this album in 1985 when I was about 22. It was awesome.

  • I also bought it in 1985... when I was 20. :) The music is timeless and is still awesome today!! ;-)

  • "Every breath you take...every move you make..."

    Great!

  • I love the reggae sound to this. Wonderful sound~

  • man, remember this clip from my childhood.

  • Oh yeah, and seven is my lucky number (A)

    Great song.

    5 stars.

  • I just like looking at him, clone him and send one to my house, make him about age 25. My addresss is haha.

  • Oh contrare mon frare (how's that francois).

This is easily one of the most critical songs of our times (and had been since its inception).

The notion that we all proceed as one humanity rather than futile nation states is the very message we absolutely need.

Consider this yet another snowflake in my effort to get 'us' off square one.

  • Still love this song after 20+ years. This version isn't as good as the "new mix" on the original 12" single release, though.

  • I love this song ( Love the Video Version alot better than the album!!! ) Album version is a great song as well for the record!!

  • this is different from the album version! tightness.

  • tropical and happy.

  • Adorable vid, catchy melody. Love it!

  • Our mutual love is like a strong sea wave... like the Ocean that separates us right now, My Lovely Princess... But it is also not an obstacle to Both Of Us, My Dearest... I love You so much, My Beautiful Queen...

  • Oceans are easy to cross and we are only a 10 hour airflight away from each other, Baby.

  • Does anyone remember the Reading Rainbow episode where they showed this video and then had pete seger do Abiyoyo and Had Run DMC on it?

  • I prefer the version on Fields of gold greatest hits, it sounds more of the same rhythm; it hasn't got a weird bit in the middle. The kids at the end really go with the animation. I was waiting for them. I thought this song was about a girl not Cold War's!

  • That middle part of the song is a return to The Police melodies and rhythms. I think that both versions are comparable. Really great song. Regards;)

  • Me fave album from Gordon

  • WE FUCKING love this song!!

  • "Every breath you take,

    every move you make,

    every cake you bake..."

    Hahahahahaha!!!!

Love, love, love Sting's sense of humor!

  • Yes, that's brilliant :) And after "every cake you bake" there's also one more line, but it's almost inaudible.

The ending goes in this way:

    "Every breath you take

    every move you make

    every cake you bake

    every leg you break" :)

    It's wonderful after all.

  • Hahahahaha!!!!

  • Every cake you bake.

    I thought I heard that.lol

  • I posted this before - remeber this was prior to 'Mr. Gorbachev break down this wall'

This messsage of peace is truely timeless and yet clearly poinynat to thhis generation

The ending of the video tells the ultimate story we all need to walk away with so that 27 generations from now our ancestors are proud of us.

I will also note I can not spell to save my life - so I appologize for the misspelled words.

  • great video , wish i could go back to the 80's

  • pretty nice video lol

and pretty nice song too... its true, its not sting kinda stile but anyway its good

  • This song is circa 1986...

It was amazingly relevant in the last throws of the cold war.

It should also (IMHO) be the rallying cry of all people under the age of 25 all over the globe.

It is also a well constructed video for the 1980's.

  • Wasn't there another version where he is on a boat, and it's sinking towards the end.

  • lol...Every cake you bake:) Great line!

  • Yes it does, and he actually used to be a teacher too!

  • Yep, I know that..I wouldn't refuse to have such a teacher anyway :)

  • You got that right - none of my teachers ever looked like him!!

  • Does this REALLY exist? The video is definitely not Sting's normal style.. but that's the reason why I adore it...that's perfect!

  • great video. very simple

Had watched this on MTV in 1994

I did not remember the lyrics except

"There is a deeper wave than this"

    and today i found it

  • The Video ist super :)

  • Childrens ART rocks!!!!

  • ;) :) ))))))

  • great song

like it when he looks to the cam in the end :P

I thought someone said that before, but couldnt fine it :P

    indd great lyrics ^^

  • And Spitzer is Client #9. Rim Shot! I'll be here all week.

  • Cool lyrics from Every Breath you take :)))))

  • this song officially makes this sting more popular than Sting the pro wrestler

  • old memories! 1985, in lima ,peru.thanks for posting!!!

  • I remember my old blaster playing this repeatedly when I was a kid. I love this song!

  • :-)

  • This song was made in essence in responce to cold war geopoltics, yet it remains relevant today with the world we live in.

Violence does not lead to peace, so teach the children the way of peace.

  • I love how upbeat this song is, the perfect opposite of "every breath you take"

  • I always enjoy it when, near the end of the video, Sting looks knowingly into the camera and sings, "Every breath you take."

By the way, what are waves 1 through 6?

  • Biblical numerology of the number 7 means completeness- the number is a reflection of the perfection of GOD in his creation.

7 whole notes make up one octave. The list goes on and on.

  • Actually the 4 ending lines are:

    "Every breath you take

    Every move you make

    Every cake you bake

    Every leg you break"

:-) I love it when someone is able to laugh of himself.

  • cool.... I think

  • This is the BEST sting solo effort EVER!!! The Dream of the Blue Turtles. If you are trying to catch up with Sting's amazing career or a first time listener, you must buy this CD. I was devastated by the break up of The Police but after hearing this album it didn't take me long to recover and discover that "Gordon Sumner" was meant to go solo.

  • His songs normaly have some deep meaning behind the words... In this one he just puts it right out in the open... Get it people... Treat eachother better and let love conquer us all...

  • I like this video. It's cute.

This song is also good. :D

  • I adore him. Those kids are freakin cute. :)

  • Antes era perfeito pra mim... agora depois de uma decada ele e perfeito pra minha filha!!!

  • i've seen this video before..and I recently discovered the Blue Turtle album..how weird. beautiful song though.

  • what a funny video

  • Muito legal as crianças neste video dá uma vida toda especial a esta canção, de muito bom gosto, principalmente no final com todas elas cantando junto com Sting, valeu, bela música, um reggaezinho muito bacana!

  • beautifull song

  • Where can I get the audio to this??

  • It's in the album "The Dream of the Blue Turtles"

  • Buy it.

  • This version sounds different than the one on the album.

  • fantastic song

  • love& light & peace might be the seventh wave & awnser to all

  • it'd be cool to find the kids at the end of the video and see how happy and successful they are now

  • some people can see what's really going on :-))

    thankfully a lot of them are musicians and artists. Sting, like Jimi Hendrix in interviews, is absolutly in tune with the human condition. Maybe it's all the touring, they see the World travelling a lot. John Lennon too, Imagine that, imagine this;

    Utopia is for everyone.

  • i like this song but i like the live version off the Bring On The Night Live album when it was fused with One World(Not Three)

  • wow

  • Thanks. Made my day.

  • I also like the Hokusai wave near the end of the song. Clever.

  • Absolutely agree, Nefraneer. I want to add that when I was abroad, I couldn't show this tune to my coworkers, and I was so taken back. Its a beautiful song and video, the calypso beat is so right on, and the message is simple.

  • Do you notice how this version is so much cooler than the CD version? The bridge is so much better the way he sings it in the video here.

  • Sting may speak Italian.

    What's this song about ?

  • This came out in like '83-'84, and yet it is as relevant today now as then

  • Esta rola pertenece, para mi gusto, al mejor album de Sting ¡Un grupo de músicos sorprendente!

  • Ah, yes! This song, and Jenepher, who stood there and smiled at me back in 1985 while this song played in the background. To this day, I still see her in my mind whenever I listen to this wonderful song.

  • I love this song :D

  • my father just passed away so the song has a deeper meaning to me,thanks sting.

  • I love this song SO, so much. Sting is great at what he does.

  • at the very end: "every cake you bake" :-)) I am just about to bake one :-)) great song :-)

  • I like this video, it's so colorful and different :)

  • just plain ole awesome

  • love=quantum dimensions ?? =D

  • I left my magic carpet double parked;)oh shit!

  • Superb video! This version differs slightly from orginal but I like them both :D

  • Yeah i was wondering about that... and this is terrible quality

  • happiness and light and colors...

Way to go Sting. The message still resonates with life.
