World war 1 intervention was "payback" since france basicly helped you during the american revolution against the brits, world war two you only entered cause of pearl harbor, but as far as i know liberating europe was essensial in defeating nazi germany...
@LittleFrenchy72 Actually we could have let them keep France, I mean, The rest of Europe was free, also I'm pretty sure it was the French that asked for help in Vietnam, and then left right before we got there.
I'm French and long live the US! (but can I rectify, you came juste once for WWII - and we're grateful. As to WWI, you came in late 1917... a bit late... your most relevant contribution is WWII, not really WWI... I believe to be grateful for the courage of French and English forces during the 1914-1918 period)

first don't forget that in the beginning after WW2 France was one of founder member and the first Central Command of NATO was in Paris until 1966
1966 when the de Gaulle general decided to leave NATO for political reasons and to show our independence and the independence of our weapons and our nuclear power (France by number of warheads are the 4rd nuclear power of the world)
second dont forget also that since 1966 we are not in strategic command of NATO BUT we are associated with NATO and much French soldiers are deployed in the world under the flag of NATO
I was myself under the flag of NATO in Sarajevo in 1999 (thus i have also the medal of NATO for example ^^)
Now for example were are the third Nation in numbers of soldiers in Afghanistan (and soon whithout doubts the second even behind USA)
So like the big majority of French people, if this comeback in the command of NATO is made to stupidly follow like doggies the decisions of the USA, I say NO and never French people will not forgive it to Sarkosy
& if that occurs, many protests will go up in France (we are an old country of more 1600 years of history and wars, and we will never let ourselves dictate our control by the USA)
if our comeback is made for we give again liek in the past before 1966 of our whole weight and power on the decisions of NATO, and if is also to still approach more & more our European brothers in the Alliance to finally support the creation of our United European Defense & Army, friendly and allied of USA of course but independant of their choice and decisions, I say YES like the majority of French people
