I just dont get it.. why you talking about a filesize, its not a magic, and you could make much elegant solution. Why dont you use a byteArray to store the coords, than just write to a simple file , or store in DB passing via Json...(or amfphp). The xml solution one of the worst you could use for this stuff, and is some case gonna get some problem with the char length, and encoding etc...
