The Berserkers made this battle! The suicide bomber Berserker is one tough cookie. Legolas' arrows take someone out in just one shot. This guy got the job done with two arrows to the neck.

@TheJBurner I thought the Noldor were the more aggressive ones, with way better swords/armour and better training (at least at the beginning of the great war against Morgoth). At the kinslaying the silvan elves only had hunting bows..

But yeah you are right. I thought the most stupid was the guy running himself trough with a bunch of non-moving spears. I mean, living for a thousand years and all, only to run blindly into a pike at such a speed it impales you even though you wear plate-armour.

One thing I never understood about this was. WHERE THE FUCK DID THE ELVES COME FROM? The only Elf at Helms Deep was Legolas. The Elves were not at Helms Deep, at this point the Elves of Lorien were battling with forces from Dol Guldur. There was simply a lot more soldiers of Rohan there, including Eomer, fuck knows why he was with Gandalf in this. Though I admit I love this scene, its not the Lord of the Rings version.

I think if uruk-hai army brought some catapults, they would win the battle easily.

Basicly, break the walls and kill archers with catapults, then charge with Uruk-hai warriors.

For this tactic, they wouldn't lose lots of warriors and they would have a chance to win.

Saruman is sux for the battle strategy :D

They may not have wanted to bother with moving the catapults. Saruman will have believed that the sheer number of soldiers would have crushed the resistance and he wasn't one for caring how many troops it cost him, he would simply spawn more. I think if he used catapults and killed everyone off including Aragorn then theres a huge hole in the story, Tolkien probably didn't want them to be too overpowering, they already had numbers, more machines would be overkill

6:33-6:40 - anyone notice the Uruk Hai tactic of using shields is similar to the Roman Testudo (Tortoise) formation used in battle? Only weakness was that the sides weren't shielded making them easy meat for Elvish Archers...also - I haven't read the novel but looking at the battle it seems Helms Deep would have been easier to defend if there wasn't a causeway but a drawbridge and if they had catapults which would have been able to deal more damage if not smash the Uruk-Testudo formation.

The way Aragorn commands the archers and leads the charge afterwards reminds me a lot of Elrond in the prelude of The Fellowship of the Ring -- I wonder if it's intentional.

This kind of battle might seem too violent, but they are much more fair then the wars today, because they require technique and talent. But today twars only require high tecnology and treason + they are much more violent, the main target is generally civils.

I disagree. War today still requires just as much skill and intelligence. For example: Snipers. To get the most efficient shot you must remember your position and your target position, such as altitude, wind direction, aiming above the target because of gravity or aiming ahead if they are moving. A bullet to the head is a lot more violent then a arrow to the head.
