Hot stone massage as we know it today was created, developed and popularized by Mary Nelson of LaStone Therapy, out of Tuscon, Arizona. This is a well known fact, she single handed shared her knowledge with the big resorts spa in the Southwest US and it then spread to Hawaii spas, then Europe. It is no mystery. Yes, other cultures have used stones as healing devices, but there's been no evidence of a full body massage protocol in ancient/past history until Mary Nelson put it all together.
Everybody, please stop with the "masseur" or "masseuse" labels- most licensed massage therapists want to be called therapists. The other labels have bad connotations to them- reminding some of massage parlors and hookers

I would be a little worried if my masseur is talking about penetrating "tight tight" muscles with hot stones.
