if you think the approach o this airport requires a FULL cross control slip for normal landing, then i say ,,put your head back down and keep it there till teacher tells you different.
This is not due to cross wind. This is a pilot mistake, who missed the axis and had to correct. He took a massive risk, the jumbo was banking and one of the left engines about to hit the runway. It happened several time there... ANyway well done, the recovery was amazingly a success and it shows how limited time to think pilots have in such situation... Abort or continue landing? He chose nb 2...
it wasn't a crosswind landing or a mistake, thats the approach pattern thats needed to get to that airport. It's somewhere in Hong Kong, i thought it was Hong Kong Intl, but i'm not completely sure.
I'm not sure that that is a display of skill, my guess is he pulled that off with more luck than skill. Hopefully some more pilots will chime in with their opinions.
Peter, no it wasn't a normal landing. There was hardly any crosswind, the pilot screwed up the turn on to final and didn't go around. I used to fly 747's.
I'm confused........ was that runway 10?! Because if it was 10 the angle of the plane should have had the nose facing the camera (from the south where the localizer is) but instead it looks like he was coming from the north which is not a standard operation. what's going on here?!
This was to runway 13. The IGS approach was almost 90 degrees off the runway heading that required a quick right turn to final because of mountains to the north. This runway was notorious for overshoots and bad landings.
the pilot did the right thing !!!
he's so good

Definitely Airplane drift

this isnt a crosswind, the plane needs to approach at that angle because the airport is surrounded by cliffs

@gadget666 Their Is Crosswind Because If You Watch Other Kai Tak's Landings The Landing Are Not Like That SO HA!!!!!
joaofbi4321 3 months ago
srry not crosswind its the approach at runway 13 which is difficult
tommygecko 5 years ago
This is definitely crosswind cause if a pilot made this mistake, would u think he would even pass the pilot test?
tommygecko 5 years ago
Actually its called "crabbing" and its the only way a pilot can land with heavy crosswinds. They must fly sideways basically.
URSOFUNNYdotCOM 5 years ago
if you look closely at 13 seconds you can see sparks come off the far left engie as it hits the ground.
gadget666 5 years ago
its not pilot mistake, all pilots had to do it like that on the airport.
Grodinz 5 years ago
If you saw closely, the left engine IS touching the ground

this wasnt windshear, this was the approach vector needed to get into this airfield
gadget666 5 years ago
perfectly normal landing for hong kong due to the surrounding terrain. luckily theyve closed that airport now and the new one is much safer!

I love these landings.. a part in me always wants to see it go wrong >:)

Mad skills on that KOREAN pilot! Gotta be the best.

That must of been some hard windshear.
Matty231 5 years ago
that pilot should have gone around, i mean holy shit!
EvOluTiOn91 5 years ago
Not really crosswind, the windsock indicates about 3-4 knots.

try landing a flexwing in a crosswing...
I think thats that old airport in Hong Kong that's now been closed, one of the most awkward and challenging approaches there is. Could be wrong though
