my aunt lives in fort myers and i remember she was telling me as a kid that they were filming parts of a zombie movie ther like in '84 or '85. she was telling me how when the zombies got off of work for the day that they would be at the bank cashing their pay checks and in drive thrus ordering food still dressed as zombies! i have always rememberd her telling me that. i went to sanibel island (last scene in the movie) and it was a nasty beach.. lots of dead stuff washed up on the beach!
Love that movie,i have the special edition dvd.I have to go to Fort Myers sometime to see those places wearing my Day of the Dead t shirt,I live in Miami so .is not too far

Zombicon in downtown Ft. Myers, FL is a MUST for any George A. Romero fan. This year's just passed but it was awesome and there is no doubt next year's will rock, too!
I live about 20 minutes away from the wampum salt mines where the majority of this movie takes place. Never been inside of the mines but I drive past there quite a bit. Watch out for deer and the occaisonal zombie!
Luther Vandross? WTF? It was sung by session singer Sputzy Sparacino. The track is on the Day of the Dead OST along with a number of other vocal numbers inspired by the movie.
A remake of Day of the Dead is soon to be release in theaters late 2007 or early 2008. Also Diary of the Dead is a the fourth and final movie from of the Zombie saga and is due soon. I believe it was release in Canada already.
Very cool , and the theater is still there , that's wild . You can see just how effective the set design was when you compare it to what those places look like normally . JV

Love this movie,up to 2004 the helicopter base look exactly the same as in 84 but the 2005 storm vilma change a lot of things.

The pinetrees in the beach are gone,it was probably the 2005 storm,but i think its the
precise spot in the beach where the movie ends.I will go to sanibel myself and chek.
