I love opera this is MY opinion,I think Opera is very good for work and youtube and google and chrome is fun for all but I use opera ALOT more it has worked for me for years and I will continue to use it. It has never failed me and I will not fail opera so I choose Opera over all :)
Opera came with a lott of idea's that other companies copyd later and used them for their browsers. BTW: Ok. it is béta vs developer. But it is not fair. You need to test the finished browsers. And opera is faster than chrome with turbo turned on. So, only test finished browsers ok? Thanks
a couple things. #1 im sorry but i feel the browsers at their speed limits using all their advantages is what matters. cuz google chrome can win. but then the turbo is turned on and it smokes chrome... so how can u give the win to chrome. lol
Awesome, it's called DNS pre-resolution and it's only awesome when you load the first page from each site (that's why typing the address a few seconds in advance is so effective, and why Chrome isn't faster when you navigate the site).
Disabling the cache is also a cheap trick because Opera uses it so effectively.

Lets factor that your computer sucks and it can't record video without lagging. My guess is that you opened Chrome first, which placed it a "higher priority" than Opera. No wonder it's going 2-3 seconds faster.
Stop recording video and do the test again, maybe launch Opera first
OMG IF NO ONE FKEN NOTICEC THAT GOOGLE CHROME WAS COPYED BY OPERA NO LIE, THEY JUST PUT MORE GADGETS, AND WHO THE FKE CARES ABOUT ALL OF THEM GADGETS ITS JUST WASTE OF TIME, EVERY TIME U GO IN TO A WEBSITE U GOT WAIT LIKE 2 seconds, AND UR NOT GOING TO 1 website EVERY DAY, AND GOOGLE CHROME NEVER FREZES. GOOOGLE CHROMEEEEEEEEE THE BESSSSSSSSSSSSSSST
Contrary to what I just said, I have a netbook running Ubuntu. It's fairly old with only 1gig of ram, 1.60ghz processor and a 16gig SSD. Opera works fine, but Chrome either stays there loading a page for about a hour, then finally throwing up a error, or it loads in a few seconds.
@TagZ2000 To me, there's no more "real life" test than expecting from a browser that it loads pages without hanging for seconds doing nothing: that's what Opera does NOT, ten versions have never fixed that. Opera priests out there doesn't like to see that, so they say that simply loading a page isn't real life. Nor bemchmarks are, obviously. That's why I call them "talibans".
@asifior This isn't rocket science: the point is the test is not fair unless the circumstances are exactly the same for both, and it has been clearly explained to you why your circumstances aren't.
For the record, I personally can't stand opera. That doesn't mean I'm obligated to agree with your obviously flawed benchmark. Again, the only reason I posted was to tell you why it's invalid. I'm not here to join your Holy War of the Opera Taliban. Have fun with that though.
@asifior If you had common sense you're self, you'd know that you're spelling sucks. What the F*** did you just post?
Anyway as for this video, Google Chrome sucks compared to Opera. On my machine (6gig of ram, quad processor at 3.0ghz) half of the time Chrome fails to even load a page, never mind see how long it takes. I find Chrome too tacky. And Chrome has half of the features Opera offers (like turbo). I don't like how many programs you're running as well. What are you're sys specs?
@computermadjack haha William Shakespeare has spoken! I wrote plain English, it's an easy language to uderstand. What have YOU just post! "you're spelling sucks"?? Come on...
The computer setup: it doesn't matter at all (mine was a Centrino2): Opera has this lag after displaying a web page that is very, very, VERY annoying and, as I said, ten versions (and counting) never fixed it. The video shows it very well, the FACT that Chrome is multiple times faster that Opera is an accident here.
@asifior You just failed at spelling understand. Anyway, I'm not suprised it lags. Having looked at you're system tray, you are running a lot of shit.
@klaudyuxxx1 OK, Mr. Genius, so if you love so much "serious" benchmarks instead od real life ones, google for one of your choice.
Me, limited as I am, have stopped to the first one I've found: SunSpider JS Bench, you know, a fairly known one. And guess what? Chrome runs 12.1x as fast (377.8 vs. 4575.8) under Linux, so no AVs that you ate so much. Try for yourself. See? Your taliban's browser just sucks.
@asifior At least two people have explained to you *WHY* your tests don't match real life. We're not saying you're lying or trying to trick us, we're just saying that this particular test is meaningless.
When you respond to these explanations, you completely ignore them and say some silly shit about the taliban. Why do you expect anyone to take you seriously?
@asifior SunSpider is a javascript benchmark specifically, not a general browser benchmark. For substantial javascript applications, Chrome is awesome and definitely the fastest (for now at least), but this doesn't have much to do with simply loading pages which is what 99% of browsing is.
Besides, I don't see you using SunSpider in this video, so it has nothing to do with the simple fact that your test is irrelevant... you just changed the subject to ignore that fact.
ps: Opera browser exists since 1996. All the browsers which exist today, copied a lot of features from Opera. Your Chrome browser which is full of shit and money from google exists since 2008. It's just a spoiled baby with no history, and no experience.
Chrome has focus all the time, therefore it has CPU priority over all other applications ( especially Opera ). Having CPU priority, Chrome will gain priority over everything: TCP Connections / Bandwidth, rendering time, etc u name it (if u can). So, Opera is simply slowed down by your bloated and high resource consumer Chrome. It's all about priority priority, which Chrome gets plenty of it in this movie. Have some honor and remove this stupid video.
If you had any idea whatsoever about how to benchmark an application you would know the following: a relevant test is not done by running the benchmarked applications simultaneously, and another 50 apps running in the background as i can see in your tray icons. Why? Because system's resources are not split 50%-50% to those browsers. Also, the other apps, may, and will surely interefere, especially AVs.
I think you are change the quality of proccesses "Chrome" and "Opera" but have you open some videos on wheither browsers???? Chrome is ****...I think you understood, and sorry for my English - I am russian
@radelich Yep, you're right. To be honest, that was not Chrome it was a bitmap series that I photoshopped over the video to cheat you thinking Opera was slower. Have a nice day.
@asifior browser like Opera is the highest class, there are a lot of advantages, my mother owns a large company, where information security is one of the main goals ... Opera has the ability to filter the information received and also blocks the entrance to a computer via remote access ... the way of my data Central Bank of Russia has a browser based on Opera, of course with their secrets)
@asifior I think no need to argue about the quality of browsers ... Nobody yet abolished the news fraud, there is an exchange of experiences (unofficial) ... For the user name is not important, it needs a good product. This is what happens in the modernization of post-industrial society
Opera is gonna be slower because Opera Turbo is optimized for dial-up users. Its irrelevant if you use high-speed internet (ie. cable, dsl, fiber optics). You wont need turbo turned on if you have high-speed internet.
@asifior Maybe he can't, but he's right. You're making them load at the same time on the same machine. You're making both browsers share the same internet connection, so it's split between them unpredictably. You need isolated environments to do real testing. Two identical machines for each browser and a local copy of the websites for each. There should be no internet connection involved at all because download speed is an unpredictable variable unrelated to actual browser speed.
@asifior I have both of these browsers already and I know their strengths and weaknesses, but that's not the point. I only came here to explain why your tests are invalid.
Today i found out something interesting. A proof that Opera is the fastest browser on earth. The on-screen keyboard which Google added to the search box. I've tried moving it randomly on the screen in FireFox, Chrome and Opera. Guess in which browser it ran the most smoothly! Opera! I'm so proud of my favorite browser! Using it since 2004.
All browsers are more or less rather good copies of Opera anyway.
You can do even 1000 tests and I will still use Opera.
Opera? Why? Because it is simply the best. It's a shame creators of Chrome browser having millions of followers have created a copy :( and not something innovative.

if Chrome had the bookmark feature added next to the home button instead of being a whole seperate bar that takes up so much screen space, it'd be the best browser to date. i still use Chrome but that bothers me so much that you have to have that stupid bookmark toolbar just to get your bookmarks. there should be an option you can move it next to the home button like all the other browsers but they had to be difficult!
@jschristian44 The bookmark bar was a showstopper for me too until I found this well-known hack (Windows only).
1. Right click on your Chrome shortcut & go to Properties.
2. In the "Target" field, add a space and bookmark-menu after chrome.exe. The first dash is actually 2 dashes, and a quotation mark at the end was needed in my case. Example: ...\chrome.exe" --bookmark-menu"
3. Restart Chrome (from the shortcut the above was applied to) in all its ultra minimalistic , yet functional beauty.
try opera 10.50.. and what its your internet con. ? on my opera the web site is loading under 2 sec so .. its no matter how fast do you loaded site ..
@zelinkaa yah, its matter how browser is campable to websites and opera still cant handle flash 100% good as other browsers, and there is allways something not loadet in adwanced websytes. like: gaia online chat, it dosend work on opera, but it works on ie, ff, ch, sf.
I have a question, the opera's version at the video is the 10.10 or just 10? There's a big difference in speed... And for those "extensionholics", half of the extensions I'm sure Opera brings it, you just need to search a bit in my.opera forums.
PD: sorry if I've done any mistake, English isn't my mother tongue :P
Firstly, I use firefox alpha release so called "minefield" and it's faster than chrome or any other browser I've tried.
Secondly, chrome uses "webkit" engine which is very young and unstable compared to "gecko" engine (used by firefox), gecko is rock-solid stable and time tested, webkit has great potential and one day it will replace gecko but not now.
Lastly, firefox has tons of extensions I can't live without. So firefox is the only choice for me.
That's true. I'm not using Chrome anymore :P I'm "testing" Opera atm and all I can say is wow! I did not expect that from Opera.
About FF. Idk about "minefield" cuz i didnt try it yet. But in my opinion, chrome is faster than "old" firefox. And yeah. Damn addons. It is so hard to live without them :P
Thx for reply. I am not an expert. This is my personal opinion and I must try minefield :)
actually it's already more customizable. maybe not the GUI, but more customizable in terms of enhancing functionality (tons of add-ons and more on the way). then again - this new Opera 10.50 pre-alpha, seems to be actually faster even than Chrome :)
chrome is faster, and do this test - first click enter on opera and then on chrome - point is in response, you firstly started chrome and then opera, so computer first responds to first command and then opera is secondary
Chrome is faster (their trump card?), but turn ON "turbo" option. Still will have advantage, but not the same. Opera is way too better to surf, is always the first to implement new features like tabs, speed dial, etc. Mouse gestures boost the speed to really "surf" the net and, not only loading info faster. I can handle 4 tabs to logging, reading mail, searching, downloading files...with less than 10 clicks and a few mouse scrolls. Chrome is good, I just say it's not better than Opera, not yet.
First of all, it depends on how many open connections you have. Of course Opera's memory cache is a lot bigger than Chrome's, but Opera is much safer and stable than Chrome. Also, if you compare compatibility, Google Chrome has still lots of problems, while Opera can be masked as Firefox or IE8, which will allow you to use it flawlessly.
Again, we're not measuring open connections: we're measuring response time in real situations, right out of the box. No tweaking, no cheats, the browser as-is.
Who cares if one has a mail client? We're talking about speed right now. Perhaps, in a future video we'll count function points.
ok if you knew anything about operas "turbo" youd know that its only helpful to users with very slow internet connection and can in some cases make the browser slower if turned on with a fast connection.
@asifior Well Opera does a lot but I'm sure it doesn't do that. But this is a test of speed not features and opera definitely beats chrome in that area. Only one big problem i ever have with opera is the way some pages work is kinda...screwy idk what other word to use...
Opera wins. so you have E-mail client, full download manager, view tabs, security, full customization of the browser and speed dial, file sharing in google chrome or firefox?????
Load pages independently on both browsers (one by one) and record the time of loading. Still chrome cant beat opera coz of its unique features and stability. Chrome simply gets stuck on heavy pages, doesnt load some images in a page and sometimes it doesnt even load a page at all, so it comes down to personal preference whre a few seconds of better page loading will not matter
So what? Surfing the Net is using the browser as is, not timing that Javascript engine or thet rendering one alone. If a browser acts faster than another one out of the box, who cares about why it does do?
This test is real life surfing, not bench testing a piece of software.
opera is better becuase chrome has user tracking ad less features

Id say Chrome wins in Speed. Opera in features. Either way, Chrome FTW.

I have used both and I genuinely like Opera better.

emotionalpunkboy 1 year ago 16
try opera 10.50.. and what its your internet con. ? on my opera the web site is loading under 2 sec so .. its no matter how fast do you loaded site ..
zelinkaa 2 years ago
@zelinkaa yah, its matter how browser is campable to websites and opera still cant handle flash 100% good as other browsers, and there is allways something not loadet in adwanced websytes. like: gaia online chat, it dosend work on opera, but it works on ie, ff, ch, sf.
MultiTail 1 year ago
I have a question, the opera's version at the video is the 10.10 or just 10? There's a big difference in speed... And for those "extensionholics", half of the extensions I'm sure Opera brings it, you just need to search a bit in my.opera forums.
PD: sorry if I've done any mistake, English isn't my mother tongue :P

Exactly, I used it, and it took me SIX refreshes to load the page up.

Google rules at everything.
Chrome is the fastest browser atm.
Firefox is for girls but still a very good browser, very safe, but not so stable and fast as chrome.
IE is also pretty god browser. Not so many ppl use it, bu rumors about IE 9, well.... they are just rummors for now... well see
deceresent 2 years ago
@deceresent that is not true,
Firstly, I use firefox alpha release so called "minefield" and it's faster than chrome or any other browser I've tried.
GhoulZP 2 years ago
That's true. I'm not using Chrome anymore :P I'm "testing" Opera atm and all I can say is wow! I did not expect that from Opera.
About FF. Idk about "minefield" cuz i didnt try it yet. But in my opinion, chrome is faster than "old" firefox. And yeah. Damn addons. It is so hard to live without them :P
Thx for reply. I am not an expert. This is my personal opinion and I must try minefield :)

chrome crash and not flash wont load bad appearance to me always thats why i turn into opera :D
nikkolei 2 years ago
chrome is always the fastes, but it isnt as safe nor costomizable
RayRai8262 2 years ago
actually it's already more customizable. maybe not the GUI, but more customizable in terms of enhancing functionality (tons of add-ons and more on the way). then again - this new Opera 10.50 pre-alpha, seems to be actually faster even than Chrome :)
vibovitold 2 years ago 2
hahaha, this test is very funny :-D
chrome is faster, and do this test - first click enter on opera and then on chrome - point is in response, you firstly started chrome and then opera, so computer first responds to first command and then opera is secondary
djolecorp 2 years ago
Are you kidding? Just look at the video, I've always started Opera first.
asifior 2 years ago
Chrome is faster (their trump card?), but turn ON "turbo" option. Still will have advantage, but not the same. Opera is way too better to surf, is always the first to implement new features like tabs, speed dial, etc. Mouse gestures boost the speed to really "surf" the net and, not only loading info faster. I can handle 4 tabs to logging, reading mail, searching, downloading files...with less than 10 clicks and a few mouse scrolls. Chrome is good, I just say it's not better than Opera, not yet.
waterkhair 2 years ago 3
where do you download chrome 4?
thebiman 2 years ago
First of all, it depends on how many open connections you have. Of course Opera's memory cache is a lot bigger than Chrome's, but Opera is much safer and stable than Chrome. Also, if you compare compatibility, Google Chrome has still lots of problems, while Opera can be masked as Firefox or IE8, which will allow you to use it flawlessly.
HM9408K1LL3R 2 years ago
Again, we're not measuring open connections: we're measuring response time in real situations, right out of the box. No tweaking, no cheats, the browser as-is.
Who cares if one has a mail client? We're talking about speed right now. Perhaps, in a future video we'll count function points.
asifior 2 years ago
ok if you knew anything about operas "turbo" youd know that its only helpful to users with very slow internet connection and can in some cases make the browser slower if turned on with a fast connection.
whilhelm7 2 years ago
OK, if you look at the video, you'll see that the "turbo" mode was off.
asifior 2 years ago
This was not a fair test.
kikaelgi9 2 years ago
Let me guess: is it because Opera fails? How many Opera evangelists are out there? :-D
I'd rather start considering the meaning of that 2% market share: perhaps people doesn't agree to you.
asifior 2 years ago
Yes partly, I agree, there are better browsers, (Which I don't know) But right now, I'm sticking to Opera
kikaelgi9 2 years ago
You can't compare these two...like you can't compare a full desktop with a netbook..
Chrome is just a browser..
Opera is not just a browser anymore..it's an internet suite..!
q1w8vr 2 years ago 2
Right. But I was just surfin', not calculating satellite trajectories. ;-)
asifior 2 years ago
@asifior Well Opera does a lot but I'm sure it doesn't do that. But this is a test of speed not features and opera definitely beats chrome in that area. Only one big problem i ever have with opera is the way some pages work is kinda...screwy idk what other word to use...
Freakinblahhh 2 years ago
Google chrome FTW
sagas599 2 years ago
Tab thumbnails enabled make page loading slower because they need to be generated... why don't you disable them and try again ? Surprise !
jceiras 2 years ago
Opera wins. so you have E-mail client, full download manager, view tabs, security, full customization of the browser and speed dial, file sharing in google chrome or firefox?????
lij8 2 years ago
this is the worst test ever thought of...loading pages at the same time :p
wrathofheaven1 2 years ago
I'm wondering HOW do you surf the Internet: don't you load pages? :P
asifior 2 years ago
dude i meant loading pages on both browsers at the same time....what kind of test is that, chrome might be using more bandwidth than opera.
wrathofheaven1 2 years ago
Load pages independently on both browsers (one by one) and record the time of loading. Still chrome cant beat opera coz of its unique features and stability. Chrome simply gets stuck on heavy pages, doesnt load some images in a page and sometimes it doesnt even load a page at all, so it comes down to personal preference whre a few seconds of better page loading will not matter
wrathofheaven1 2 years ago
Try loading the same page multiple times in each browser and avg the results
wrathofheaven1 2 years ago
So what? Surfing the Net is using the browser as is, not timing that Javascript engine or thet rendering one alone. If a browser acts faster than another one out of the box, who cares about why it does do?
This test is real life surfing, not bench testing a piece of software.
asifior 2 years ago
Whatever u believe....I am not gonna fight on it
wrathofheaven1 2 years ago
Opera best browser
noovel1 2 years ago 13
hmm, not sure if this is a good test. You really need to do 2 seperate recordings as Windows may be allocating priority depending on many factors.
The download speed shouldn't be Opera's fault
