Love It! My first car back in 1964. Same color. Could even pick up a Cal radio station up here in Seattle. BIG back seat. Could get scratch when it shifted into fourth gear (hydroMatic). And if you take the bumper and all the grill stuff off, the front end lifts about two inches. Had a lot of fun with that car. Parents sold it when I went in the army. I guess you never forget the first one. sigh!
I owned a blue and white 2 door '56 chieftan. Was a great car except for the fact it had a huge steering wheel and would vapor lock when it was hot. I thought the lighted hood ornament was cool.
you DON'T want to get a car from Cuba! They are almost all rolling miracles! They are grossly overpriced and have a myriad of mechanical and structural problems!
Yeah, the Chevy was somewhat plainer and perhaps cleaner looking than the Pontiac, but if someone offered me a choice between a '55 Bel Air for the price of a '55 Star Chief (the Pontiacs usually go for a much lower price), I still think I'd go with the latter all things being equal. I wouldn't want a Ford of that vintage unless it was a Crown-Victoria for a bargain price, but I would look at a Mopar or Packard of that vintage.
I don't think the car is a plastic model. The actors in the film wouldn't be able to do the things they do if it was. It's too bad there's no sound.

The '55 models (like that Star Chief Custom Catalina) were the beginning of the real "driving excitement" Pontiac offered through the 1970's!

If GM built a pillarless hardtop with a full hybrid V-8 today, they couldn't build it fast enough. Are you listening, GM?
