Saying that after a few takes "you don't have any inspiration" and that it's about intelligence is exactly what I hear every time I listen to one of their recordings. It sounds like a product and not like a composition which tells a story and like four persons who let me know how they feel on a certain day when they play. But this is what I want: to get in contact with the music AND with the musicians. Intelligence makes musicians to slaves of composers I think and so it will sound.
Guys don't vote down amapparat for his/her opinion, especially for something as subjective as music.
I kind of agree, Emerson is definitely on the cerebral end of the scale, but their records are definitely true to the intent of the music, even if they tend to lack in emotion.
They are simply playing what is written, as well as possible. You can't fault them for that.
