NES Friday The 13th Speedrun (3 Minutes 28 Seconds)

OK...so here's my problem...every time almost as soon as I start the game, Jason is attacking in a cabin, so it never plays out like this..anything I'm doing wrong???

If you want this pattern from Jason, then you will simply have to keep on resetting the game until you get it.

Unless you're using an emulator, there's nothing else you can do. I've seen it take anywhere from a few resets to more than 50.

I got fed up with the process and ended up using a save state to start from the map screen. When playing on the actual console, this isn't possible and you are forced to hit the reset button every single time. It's a pain.

@bubufubu well, I have it to the point where I start out playing from the correct cabin, as soon as I enter the woods to get the note from the cabin there, he's hitting a cabin. I mean, I've beaten the game, but it always happens in the cabins, and I can't get these crazy times you guys are getting, even with making all the right moves.

If you get the right pattern, then Jason's first attack will be on the children on the lake. He won't go into any cabins with counselors.

If you are going at about roughly the same speed as me in the video, then you shouldn't hear the alarm when you're in the woods. If you do, then just reset.

I am into this game ATM but everytime I sit down and play it my first encounter with jason in a house scares the life out of me and I turn it off. LOL

@CwalkDarkBoy That's how I felt when I picked this game back up a week or so ago...and I've now beaten it 4 times...I did just now without losing any children for the first time, and not using any vitamins!

@chuckelator Found my way around the scary part. Just played my own music. Just to find out that I suck at the game. I can't avoid even 1 of his attacks in the cabin fights and I can't beat his mother for the sweater. Sad I can't play this game ... was really looking forward to it.

@wallace3542 HAHA...well, at the very least it cuts down on the damage you take, but it should very well stop Jason from attacking you...Kind of a strange dynamic in this game, along with the fact that Jason can swim...WTF!?!? I can't help it still, I love this game!!!

The sweater does not stop Jason from attacking you. It's only use is to reduce the damage that you take.

Jason swam in Part 4, which was released in 1984. This game came out in 1989.

I find this speed run just perfect. When I was a kid, I was terrified of this game. It took me years to summon up the courage to beat it... So it's funny that the game that took me years to beat, takes you less than four minutes... Right on man!

When I first started speedrunning this game, it took me about 13 to 14 minutes to beat it. I kept playing more and more and found help through other videos on this site and before I knew it.....it turned into a 3 to 4 minute game. I was completely shocked.

By the way, I still get a chill up my spine when Jason catches me by surprise. One of the few things LJN did right. =)

Dude, fantanstic! I totally remember that "quick way to the torch" glitch. There are very few of us that had this game mastered. I played it to death back in Jr high and then again for the emulator around 2001 or so. I once had 4 torches, an axe and the pitchfork. Heck, even George had a torch during that game. Again, awesome stuff.

This was done on an emulator. There were countless attempts at a sub 3:30 time. I'm a little upset that I had to use 1 save state at the beginning to get the starting cabin I wanted for Mark. Oh well. I'm sure I'll make another attempt on my actual NES sometime in the future. Thanks for watching =)

From part 5 onward, it turned into complete sh!t. I pretend they don't exist. The fact that part 4 was subtitled "The Final Chapter" makes it that much easier for me to do so.

8 and X were also good just because of how bad in a funny way they were. 5, 7 and 9 were just plain bad though.

Part 6 was a festival of crap.

1. No explanation for the beginning of the movie in relation to the end of part 5

2. Campy humor peppered throughout the movie

3. James Bond parodied in the opening credits

4. Wacky group of paintballers

5. The kills were now all comical

6. The music officially changed over to "kick-ass slasher theme" instead of horror

Parts 1-4 are the only legitimate horror entires in the series. I didn't grow up watching these movies to laugh. I wanted to be scared.

That said, you are far better at this game than I will be (and I'm obsessed with it right now, LOL). It's been aboiut 7 years isnce I palyed the actual cartridge (I was 11, and the damned NES barely worked, plus it wasn't at my house so I only got to play it at certain times) but I've been playing the Java emulator a lot lately... Jason a cunt on the 3rd day.

I can not agree with your take on part 6 though. THe first 8 were all classics to me.

It's not possible to complete the game by killing Jason's mother. In fact, it's not even necessary to fight her at all.

She's merely there as sort of a bonus game. If you kill her, then you can get new items. But the only way to finish the game is by killing Jason for the third time.

So many things have to go right. It's such a pain in the ass.

1. You have to get at least 9 hits each on the first two outside encounters to limit them to a total of three.

2. I'm having trouble getting 10 hits on the first encounter of day 2.

3. How am I going to kill him for the second time on the third encounter of day two?

It's cause of you and these videos that I was able to beat the game. I don't speed run it, and I save my game (computer rom) often to keep the advantage. Even this is tough, since Jason ends up attacking me in the houses. In the end, I got him.

Can more than one counsellor have the torch?

Once you figure out where Jason is going to be, then this game becomes even easier. He follows certain patterns. I don't know the exact amount but there are several.

Using savestates is a GREAT way to practice. It will help you learn Jason's behavior and allow you to catch him outside for quicker kills.

Every counselor in the game can have the torch.

It was a Monday, but my birthday occasionally falls on a Friday. That's when everyone says they're glad I'm not a serial killer, exept the people I slaughtered. They're dead. They can't talk.

@abbernomad - yes, you can have more than one torch. But, each player has to individually light all 6 fireplaces and follow the same order saving the last cabin as the torch cabin to lite. Also, you cannot light some with Mark, then switch to Crissy, or some cabins don't "stay lit". As Bubufubu says, Jason runs in patterns, usually counter-clockwise. So start with Mark or Crissy, finish the job with one, then the next, then try Laura and finally Debbie/George. On my fourth torch I had pitchfork.
