  • This is the first time I've seen a Chaozhou... anything really in America. There aren't many people here in Florida that speak it and it has too many ways to spell it(Chaozhou,Teochiu, Tiuchiu, Tiochiu, or Diojiu). Quite a few Vietnamese though.

  • 吕鞋喜 吕真實鞋喜哩

    我過不變敵吕哩

  • Teochew-nang, Hailam, Hokkien, Taiwanese r all "ka ki nang" (relatives). Just d minor dialect differences but highly intelligible to one another but we all share the same language roots i.e. MIN NAN or Southern Min's people. There r over 60 millions of us worldwide. Minnans are the majority among Chinese migrants diaspora in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam etc.

  • i'm teochew nang come from Pontianak or Khuntien (in teochew language) it is in Indonesia. There a lot of teochew nang in my province and Khek nang.

  • So among the Chinese in Pontianak, what main language they speak, Teochew or Hakka (Khek)? How abt Hokkien lang. Pontianak so near Kuching, but in Kuching, Hokkien is predominant language in the city. Second biggest group is Hockchew (Fuzhou). Anyway, say hey...to our "ka ki lang" here..haha

  • Haha, happens that I'm from Kuching! Yes, Hokkian is predominantly used in Kuching as a common language, but Teo Chew crowd are also dominated in the City Area. The Teo Chew Temple of "Lao Yea Geng" (Shang Di Miao) is one of the mojor focal of worship in Kuching, aligned with "Feng Shan Shi" for the Hokkian, and "Dua Peh Gong" for all chinese (Hokkian). The Khek on the other hand does dominated the city out skirt. It'd been a smudged over all dialects and many had speak Mandarin nowadays.

  • Foo Chao on the other had are dominated in Sibu! not in Kuching lar~ but recently the migrate from Sibu to Kuching had overwhelmed the lost of local and pushed the local real-estate pricing rocket high.

So that's my Kuching, Teo Chew part of story!

  • TQ for yr story. Been so long didnt go Kuching. Miss thye seafood & local food there. haha

  • No worries.....Ga Gi Nang, Da "salah" bo siang gang !

  • Lim Yang yang what you are sying is just based on you r own opionion and observations, it actually roots back even further that what you have said. Min Nan are for Hokkien actually and originally was Min yue. basically what your saying is right but, the diaspora is actually called the Da Yue.
