I recorded it at the at the piping contest which was part of the Portree Highland Games. It was very impressive indeed, almost hypnotizing. If you want to find this kind of bagpipe music search for 'lament'.
The bagpipe intro is exquisite. I was looking for bagpipes on YouTube and all I get is Scotland the Brave and Amazing Grace. They're fine, but I like variety.
I spent a warm August night in Sourlies back in 91. I was wet and almost froze to death. There were big piles of mussel shells everywhere outside, but I didn't know how to prepare them so I starved as well.
The mussels were excellent. Since I come from Holland I do know how to cook them. First rinse them thoroughly in cold water. Then get rid of the ones that stay opened or have damaged shells. Put them in a little water (add salt, pepper, and if you have them at hand some vegetables and beer or wine) and bring to the boil. The shells will open soon and technically they should be safe to eat know, but just to be sure bring to the boil once more.
Some great footage here. Me and a pal used to do the Glenfinnan - Glen Dessary- Sourlies - Inverie walk regularly. Once we got hemmed in at Soulies by floods for four days. The bridge with the wooden slats at the clearance village at Carnoch was under water! The Old Forge Inn at Inverie was always a great stop at the end! Thanks for posting your footage, it's very atmospheric and broiught back some great memories.
