  • Awesome video man. Wish you would have went through some actual macro writing or atleast gave a source for some macro builds. All in all though, 8 of 9. Oh, by the way, nice beard broski.

  • @Jpirani00 8-10*

  • @Jpirani00 Macro writing? Macro builds? :s

  • @Jpirani00 Macro builds vid 4

  • Exactly the kind of video I've been looking for since I bought Starcraft :)

  • woh 3 guys on gas = -120 minerals per minute. since u put it that way i think ill take my guys off gas now

  • Comment removed

  • @EvilNecroid I've seen pros doing it. I don't do it either.

  • yay im 1000th liker :) Good tutorial

  • 5:11 At that point in the game, as a Zerg player is not such a bad idea to stockpile gas because you are getting the lair becuse you want to harass with Mutas, so you'll need good gas stockpiled.

  • You didn't get the point, Jutzujin. A couple of zerglings in your base force you to react BUT he still improved his economy while doing that.

  • A couple of Zerglings isn't a crisis. Broodlords, Corrupters, and Ultralisks are a crisis.

  • Hey really appreciated the basic noob school vids... I'm someone who loves the idea of rts games, jumps into them and then finds the multitasking absolutely daunting. Out of sheer stubbornness I began testing build orders on my own on sc1 but i never really got into much competitive play. However, I've watched over 50+ hours of high end sc2 matches without owning the game and seeing the basic concepts laid out in front of me, I'm definitely interested in playing again. thanks

  • good trick really, but also really boring ... show us more exemple, like when you talk about hotkey, show us unit and what the advantage it does. Good video but boring :). Sorry just honest

  • @dannywhittick go watch day9, is what u need to become a better gamer

  • @dannywhittick Agreed

  • im downloading the full version maybe tha will help

  • hey i need some help i got the sc2 starter edition and i cant play a versus map. can u help me?

  • what about for protoss, keeping gas low...What if I need to warp in several stalkers at once?

  • @AppleAssassin Warping in the stalkers is how you keep your gas low silly or sentrys

  • he looks like the guy from lost, the time traveler nerd

  • I don't know how to make buildings with keys

  • This guy thinks he can get a girlfriend with his videos, he dressed up combed his hair and trimmed his beard.

  • @jonathanskurtu shut up moron... this guy is actauly making a video worth watching and learning from!

  • noob question.. when i have 2 warpgates i have tu click and put the troops two times..i see you do it all at once. how can i do that?

  • @asasa348 hold down the control key on your keyboard and thne click on the structure and that will select all the structures on the screen! But for warpgates have nothing selected and press the W key on your keyboard and that will select all of your warpgates automatically. :]

  • as a fresh player i have noticed its not that hard to play a rather decent macro OR micro - the hard part is doing both at the same time. As such i have noticed its a good strategy against fellow newbs is to divide these with a friend when playing 2v2 maches - one does CONSTANT harassment with micro (destroying workers and demanding attention) while the other focuses purely on building up as well as possible. This usually ends with 2 low economy enemies while 1 of your has an excellent economy.

  • Good work mate.

  • u look like the burger king maskot

  • Macro is what gives you as many units as possible, whereas micro is what makes those units as cost efficient as possible.

  • macroni cheese

  • @9213321 wow dude sry didnt know calm down and maybe I won't think ur a dick

  • what about oversaturating ? if I count my drones with a ctrl group the number keeps changing, do you always have to count +2 workers for the vespene geysers? and is there maybe a way to see if there are too many workers? is it when they start moving behind the mineral line you are over saturated?

  • I hope tht double pylon and 1 forge thing was for learning purposes and tht is not ur actual skill

  • @numanumamanman That was White-Ra, a pro player playing, and if you were too stupid to notice it was because he fast expanded.

  • @numanumamanman control click on one of your workers. count how many mineral nodes you have. lets say 5+2 gas. you want 3 drones on each spot. So count your selected workers now. 7 X 3 =21. So if you have 22 workers in a base you are over saturated. move him to a new base or have him build somthing.

  • but thx for the tutorial it rly helps

  • i hate activision for making micro a key part of this game

  • i agree with the hot key i did alot of terren so i got use to refinery as (r) and i played online zerg so i got use to (s) so i changed them to those now i use protoss

  • 3 workers per mineral patch is actually optimal saturation.

    24 per mineral line.

because if you make more, they won't work cost effective. It will take 20 minutes in order to let the extra worker pay himself off.

    and 3 per gas.

  • Nicely done man, You have helped me alot

  • Thanks for the tip with getting army on 4,5,6 because of the a button.

I changed the A to R now so it works better for my setup. :)

Hopefully wont lose stuff stupidly because of that anymore

  • Just bought the game a couple days ago and already this has been showing me some very useful tips. Thanks a ton!!

  • lol, house metaphor

  • owned lol

  • GREAT JOB!

  • Awesome vids bro.

  • Just a thought out there to novices. Don't dive headfirst into the OMGKOREANAPMMICRO, you will get plenty of that sort of practice on the ladder. Take the opportunity while in practice league to really solidify your macro first, as not having macro means you can't capitalize on your micro advantages. In high level games the micro is usually to complement your macro, unless you're all-inning (even then...) Play a bot on very easy, and expand expand until you can't manage all your income/bases.

  • @romanempirerulestoda nazi bastard

  • hey does anyone know any good macro training maps i could use or should i just do normal 1v1 matches

  • @gothian Normal match ups will do. Keep focused on what you want to improve on, i.e. Macro. Don't expect to win at first. If you have replays you'd like me to watch for some advice, let me know.

  • Thanks for this, hit the nooby things i do like let my resources get really high and not know what to spend them on.

  • Nice upload sub your channel

  • dude get a decent computer.

  • @99Cybertox99

It's actually better to play on lower graphics bro.

  • nice Keyboard :D ^^

  • I don't understand, why do you have to keep your money low?

  • @doug360x because unused minerals/gas isn´t helping you in your game :)

  • @doug360x because keeping your money low means you are spending it as fast as u can and as much as u can which leads to a stronger healthy army. if u let your money build then u have a bunch of money saved up... but not many units. so sure u can afford to build alot but units take time to build. so its better to always use the money and have them ready at all times. hope i helped you ;]

  • ok if you want a macro intensive game play age of empires 3, much more economy then then starcraft 2. The age of empires games were my rts games before sc2 they are awsome :D

  • This is a great video. I'm so glad I found this. Thanks

  • First off, I would like to introduce myself as a Platinum level player in SC2, and I applaud this video, well portrayed and worded.

  • I can't wait until I get this game for Christmas ^^

  • @GamersRemote Me, too. Race to get good first?

  • @prinsen45 Aha, nty. You'd get first, I'm not too good at RTS. I don't play them, only StarCraft.

  • The terminology of starcraft confuses me. Macroing in other games means writing script into the game (using in game macro tools) that will multi task for you. For example creating a button that will both attack a unit and throw down a forcefield at the same time.

However on this game it just means using keybinds at the same time as micromanaging your units to keep up a good economy and fast unit production/tech advancement.

    Very confusing!

Thanks for that guide. Very useful.

  • @kiesieweesie

It's referring to "macro-management", as opposed to "micro-management".

  • I am new to starcraft and when watching the pro videos I always get confused when they say macro because to me macro means a function that does more than one function... if that makes sense :P

  • Nice my cousin won his first match because i showed this to him and now he loves sc2... THANKS

  • would just like to say that i came here from forces page and he was a wise man to have you on his page. Keep up the good work.

  • i appreciate all your vids man. i just bought the game last week and cannot win a match. very helpful tips. thanks for your help!

  • That's not WhiteRa at the start, he changed his name to DuckloadRa for SC2.

  • @n00bz00rd Just saying, he was WhiteRa in Beta, and as this video on uploaded in June, I believe that that is the real WhiteRa.

  • If the Zerg is going for Ling/Muta builds, its a good idea to build up gas until your spire goes out.

Glad you said something about that.

  • Nice drapes.

  • "macro" = adjective (large in scope); micro is adjective (small in scope). Similar use in the terms micro and macro economics.

  • Macro is short for macromanagement; it is a style of play where the player manages the overall strategy of the game, such as the overall economy or armed forces. Micro is short for micromanagement i.e., more focus on individual units. There is less of a focus on micromanagement in SC2 than what you would see in WC3 where micro is significantly more important, relatively speaking.

  • this would be a lot better if you would tell what macro meant... i cant find anybody or any video that can explain what the hell it is

  • @RockStar5132 Macro is your ability to maintain a flowing economy that produces you units, upgrades, and tech. You can really think of macro as the "sim city" or base management part of SC2, whereas Micro is the control of individual units.

  • @SC2NoobSchool oh ok i gotcha, a buddy of mine gave 3 separate explanations and one of those had to do with the hotkey system, like setting up the numbers to buildings and whatnot, thanks for the description =-)

  • @RockStar5132 Macro/Micro is basicallly a Gaming term for the difference between Strategy and Tactics.

Macro = Strategy --> Getting Resources, Choosing Units, and Deploying them as efficiently as possible.

Micro = Tactics ---> Maneuvering units and applying abilities as effectively as possible.

  • @RockStar5132 macromanagement (building stuff, upgrading)

  • @RockStar5132 Shorter for Macro Management.

  • @RockStar5132 Fundamentally, the terms micro and macro refer to micro-management and macro-management, being small and large-scale control. Having a good micro game means you're good and maneuvering your units in combat, placing forcefields, sniping, target-firing, etc. Having a good macro game means that you maintain the economy and supply to constantly be producing units or upgrades; in other words, constantly getting more powerful.

  • is there a way to chronoboost other buildings using only the minimap and control group numbering? i like micro-ing too and it's my eternal bane to be able to wipe an enemy army out only to find my base has turned decadent with more resources than the vatican. i want to use nexus without having to look at my damn stargate or whatever in the main screen every damn time

  • I really should quit wow and get my hands on this beauty. I mean, wow is nice and fun for pve but pvp is just horrible in that game.

  • @Nevian8 this game is no better...pretty cheap shit goes on it never takes skill

  • @Neowolf882 lol sc2 is called a strategy game for a reason. it involves tons of skill :) unless you love those stupid 5 minute cheese builds..

  • This was a great tutorial. I really liked the way you included professional videos to make your point. I'm a gold league level player, and I felt like I learned a lot from this. Thumbs up.

  • Fuck, it's NNNNNNEEEEEEWWWWWBBBBBB you fucking noob!

  • Good basics man i should use Macro more seriously but i sometimes have a hard time remembering ingame that i set that macro which is why i rarely use it lol ^^; i'll keep watching the rest of your videos hopefully it will help. I'm more of a Protoss user and im in the Bronze league still i have my good days and my pissed off days lol mainly against terran players which really gets on my nerves lol

  • very good guide !

thx dude, keep these videos coming all day long !

some terren build ups + keyboard work ! thx

  • very good guide !

thx dude, keep these videos coming all day long !

  • What are your hot keys for zerg?? Desperate to know

  • I got a torrent for the game but the game is so damn fun that I'm going to buy it one for the fact I can't get on battle.net and two its just a damn good game and is worth the money. BLIZZARD making pirates turn since 1998 lol.

  • Great vid!

  • great instructions easy to understand and decent quilty vids great job man your really helping me improve my game

  • Just what I needed.

  • Ok... so you call it noob school then you just skip over noob things I want to know but are so long known by you that you just fly over it. How to you hotkey a building? Do you just click on it and hit a key or what? If you use your set hotkey on "barracks", what is the set hotkey to create a Reaper or Marine or Marauder? I've played like 17 games in practice leage and have just been roasting everybody with Reaper rush and I know that won't work when I get out of the practice leage.

  • @reasonablelogic1

Click on a building or unit(s). Then, hold down CTRL and press a number on the keyboard (1-0). And you're done! Now, if you click on something else, you can tap the button you chose and it automatically selects the building(s) and unit(s) you assigned them to!

  • Good stuff man, the hotkey thing is paramount to me because usually I'll be in the thick of a fight, commanding my units while money that could be spent on upgrades and units keeps piling up.

  • Cool way u did this lesson - liked it a lot.

    All the best.

  • BEST PART is when he shrinks!

  • but how do u actually continue building workers, do u keep clicking on the button? or is there a setup u can do?

  • Hey, I know it might be a dumb question, but i'll ask it anyway. How can I put all my Commandcenters in one group? I don't know how I can select units of the same type, that are not on my screen at the same time (double-klick).

  • @ShorttodaE Click on the Command center, hold shift, click on anything else, and you have that command plus whatever ready to put on one hotkey.

  • @ShorttodaE Select one command center, go to your other command center, hold shift and click, and you'll now have them both selected. That also applies for any other buildings and units.

  • One of my biggest problems is that sometimes I'll have tons of unspent minerals but no gas, and I don't know what to spend those minerals on. What can I do in those cases?

No kidding, I built up 5k minerals on my last match. And I didn't even stop making workers.

  • @IshidaTheQuincy One option is to increase your gas production by expanding faster and getting access to more vespene geysers.

If you're in too much heat to think about expanding, spend your minerals on defensive structures (photon cannons, missile turrets, spine/spore crawlers.

  • @apziro

I see. I guess it also didn't help that I was putting two workers per geyser instead of three. :B

    Thanks for the tip!

  • Great videos, please keep coming out with noob, moderat, advanced tutorials for macro, popular early game counter strategies, and build order&timing strategies (for Terran) :)

  • Great videos, please keep coming out with noob, moderat, advanced tutorials for macro, popular early game counter strategies, and build order&timing strategies (for Terran) :)

  • your videos have helped out a lot, please keep coming out with noob<moderate<advanced (macro, micro, buildorder) tutorials...exspecially for Terran.

  • Good job, make more videos pleas !!! enjoy watching them

  • is SC2 worth buying for newbies? can i just buy and play with people about my level or the game is full of elitist players, like DotA... i don't mean to offend, but the vast majority of dota players are elitists and since most of them are seasoned players, it makes it difficult to start playing as a lone newbie ... i'm familiar with Starcraft 2 in the single, but its diferent to play against real people, and i don't want to buy the game and find out i bought access to an elitist flamers zone...

  • @levilisko SC2 has the best community of any game :) Ever. Jump on the ladder and start learning. Visit strategy sites, and watch top tier players play. It's nothing like the DotA community, because I know exactly what you mean about them.

  • @SC2NoobSchool

Yeah, if there's one thing I hate about DotA players is that they don't know how to have fun. Not all of them, of course, but unfortunately most. And that really sucks, because DotA can be a really fun game if everyone is just having fun instead of thinking win, win, win. I'm glad SC2 is not like that, and I sure hope it doesn't turn like that.

Great videos, btw. They're being a great help to me and lots of people. =)

  • Yeah i know what u mean

  • @SC2NoobSchool Your comment awhile back on the community wanted me to buy this more as I was afraid it might be like the DotA community too. :)

  • @SC2NoobSchool dota community is gay if ur a noob u get scolded if ur a pro u get scolded theres close to no friendship in dota which sucks

  • @levilisko Just to throw my two cents in: I'm a terrible player and I think the ladder does a good job of matching you with people at your level, and most players have pretty good manners too, so I have a lot of fun!

  • @levilisko I'm not good, and its still freaky to play but once you're ranked on the ladder they do very well at keeping you paired with players of your same skill. it's cool to be able to say that, for most games i've played the difference between victory or defeat was slim. i think most players from bottom to top rung can say that

  • @levilisko new or not it's one of the best games i've EVER PLAYED! it's just like anything else though - practice makes perfect.

  • @levilisko I'd also say grab a guest key and find out. Why pay cash if you can try for free.

  • @levilisko I dont consider my self as a very good player, starcraft 2 is my first rts that i have played and still got a change, im in bronze, so it is agains other players who arnt that good, but i find that i have some good games anyway.

  • @levilisko it puts you in a division with players your skill level

  • @levilisko sc2 has a match making system when u play quick match games and the custom ones that have no match making but they dont count

  • @levilisko

ya not elitist . noob friendly, a lot of my friends play only team games, and the custom games are endless.

and if u do want to get into the "hard core" stuff, there is no shortage of competent ppl

  • @levilisko Hell yeah man buy it, just have a decent graphics card. Lots of support for noobs (i am one) and now im beating insane computer, thanks to the in-game mini games and easy controls.

  • @levilisko

You can also play co-op against different levels of AI which I think is fun for beginners or experts.

  • @levilisko There's a ladder so it effectively matches you up with other people of similar skill level, or you could hop on custom games and usually play noobs :D

  • @levilisko

get this game with a bunch of buddies and play with them as a team.

  • @levilisko yes, absolutely, i started playing sc2 without any knowledge and i am enjoying it so it is definately worth buying.

  • @levilisko A huge difference is that when you play dota, you gotta know where to play.. Bnet, Garena, different league sites etc etc.. just as SC2NoobSchool says, you can just buy the game, log on and start playing. you will get matched with people of your own skill, a bit lower or a bit higher. And watch videos! replays from top players such as TheLittleOne!

  • @levilisko

Dude just bought the game and im still doing practice league and playing against some friends and i have to tell you, IT ROCKS! :D and there are plenty of noobs like myself just waiting for you to try and improve with each other ;) so awsering correctly buy it, there arent only "elite" players out there ;);) HF GL!

  • @levilisko There are huge douches on DoTA and HoN. Me and my friends, I mean we're good if not better then the seasoned elitist fags, but as long as you or anyone that is bad is willing to learn and not be a total fag about we're fine and we teach and help :).

  • @levilisko nah dude i was a huge noob, but progress comes sooner or later.

  • @levilisko you get good at it with the campaign as well, the campaign is the game itself with a story and missions. The u can play 1vs 1 if you like, or practice against the computer. you can choos the computer level on: -very easy, easy, hard, very hard and insane! ;)

  • @levilisko No don't get it, I bought it and you can't win, ever.

  • @lolman5921

play coperative and learn,i was a nood too now.

  • Great video you give a lot of useful information that I did not know thanks. I'm looking forward to watching your other videos. :)

  • nice computer, faggot

  • starcraft 2 is awesome, love learning how to get better, great tutorial

  • Well done sir! You've helped me a lot, and I feel like there's just a wealth of knowledge... destroying my head... you know, in a good way :D

  • Epic Micro

  • I'm new to starcraft and have barely even played the campain. Though, this guide helped me alot already! I have the G9 mouse and G11 keyboard and will try to use them as effecient as possible.

  • that's my keyboard! =O

    Love the videos! =)

  • lol, didn´t know NonY plays SC2 now-

pwned him a couple of times at cnc3, but looks as if he became quite good at SC...

    if you read this, nony:

    greetings from mOvy aka manspammer.exe

  • one thing that i love about starcraft players they don't think that there set ups are best for you

  • I've been in the gaming mood lately, and with the release of this, i think this is gonna be my new game, one which i will put a lot of time into. Love how competitive and complicated it is, can't wait to get into it.

Thank you for the great tutorial, much appreciated bro.

  • Great video's i love the way you explain everything. nice and easy and you repeat the important stuff ! good work mister beard man

  • hi hippy

  • @Trebis : Great Video series - one question about your "disclaimer" of not using this 1,2,3,4 setup anymore. What add-ons did change that (me=n00b) and of course: what is your current setup. :-)

    Thanks - greetings from Austria

  • @neverlast74 None of the add-ons changed--just the way you could cycle through them with hotkeys. You can no longer tab through specific builings in one hotkey. I haven't figured out a setup that I'm perfectly happy with quite yet, unfortunately...

  • Dude, Nice vid. I'm a total noob and this is exactly what I need to up my game.

    Very detail and noob friendly.

Are you going to do race-specific tutorials?

  • what should i do as zerg? how many workers should i constantly building?

  • heyyy nice vid... but can u like not put a camera view of urself in the vid?? u're a handsome man, but that kinda adds nothing to the video and blocks out the time bar...

  • @pinoy426 time bars, they're important.

  • @guy76767 yep

  • wow im subbing just promise more tutorials please!

  • right now as it stands...I focus on either macro or micro I never can focus on both...and if I throw scouting on there I am neglecting macro all together...

I usually stop at 22 workers not sure if thats good or bad...I am a complete newb lol

That coupled with the fact even tho I am playing it alot...(everyday since release) I can't pick a race all 3 have something I like v_v.

  • G'day I enjoyed this video but when I hear people talk about macro it sounds like how one buttion does like 30 things or whatever. Like binds and stuff as in press G3 (I own a g15 keyboard) selects a hatchery selects larvae and makes zerglings. I am probably getting it wrong or something but the way some people talk it sounds like it means one button that does lots. Can you please reply or pm me or something and please correct me?

  • i have the opposite problem, i don't get enough gas and have way too many minerals :)

  • Good video

I've watched all the fundamental videos, they helped a lot.

    I'll thumb up them all

    Keep up the good work!
