When this first came out, we were in high school, listening to the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Led Zepplin, Savoy Brown, Black Sabbath, Cream, Allman Brothers, etc. At 2 am this show came on the radio called "Jazz Fusion". We heard this song and it totally blew us away, although we never paid any attention to the words. All that revolution stuff was for suckers. We eventually picked up on Coltrane and Miles Davis. But it was Les who ushered we teenagers into a lifelong love of jazz.
I loved hearing this tune in the movie "Casino." Ace (De Niro) walks onto the floor of The Tangiers with Nick (Pesci, or someone who looks so much like him. It may have been a stand-in for that scene, but who knows?) and looks ready to handle just about any problem on the horizon.
Stereo or mono, analogue or digital, I don't care. It's still an awesome song whose message is still relevant. "Goddammit! Try to make it real, compared to what?!"
@Globalovskimedia Only just heard of his passing a few hours ago and am gutted. A true king amongst men and a titan of song writing for sure. RIP Brother McDaniels.
the president has got his war$ we all know what they're fighting for, rich men in suits who care about but one colour: the colour green, as in money; all you people think those in Power care one bit for humanity? the first slave owner was,,,er...black, not white, & come to think of it the first slave was a woman: the poor always gotta put up with the crazed Elite$ Nuke Pimp$
@TheDejael For me, only Bernie Sanders is the real deal. Obama sold out (and I gave him $500). I'll still vote for him, but only because the Republicans are completely nuts.
Heard this 40 years ago when I came to Kauai for 6 months right after I graduated from college. (UT, Austin). When they dedicated the LBJ Library in May 1971 and Nixon came to speak, it was quite something: Hundreds of state troopers, Vietnam veterans throwing their medals, and my personal favorite: just as Nixon was speaking, we released thousands of black balloons that floated over the power-elite crowd whose were there. Aloha from Kauai. Been back 9 years.
I've been listening to this ALBUM since the early 70s. Thanks for posting a nice clean copy. My poor ol album has been played so many times I've worn out some of the sound. This was truly one of the greatest jazz jams.
After last nights elections and what appears to be an up coming political stalemate that will the politicians play games, us working folks will continue to be without jobs and money, Eddie and Les are expressing my feelings in this song. HEY I'M SCARED FOR US!!

McCann discovered Roberta Flack and obtained an audition which resulted in a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
A stroke in the mid 1990s sidelined McCann for a while,[1] but in 2002 he released a new album, Pump it Up.

Listening to this track makes me think about how poor music we produce nowadays

@OldSpiceBoss Tell me about it. It's any wonder we have music at all. I've always preferred music of the 50s through the 80s over the 90s to today.

The version from Al Jarreau is also wonderful.
