I always felt Afghanistan was another Vietnam which I was against even as a little boy living in the the USA. I would see the nightly news on the Vietnam war and wonder what the hell are we doing there? Watch this whole Bill Moyer Journal on this listen to LBJs recordings and see how similar the 2 wars are the only real difference is the place and time.
"Once again the loudest case for enlarging the war is being made by those who will not have to fight it who will be safely in there beds while the war grinds on."
Mr Moyers you are an ass. The person who has asked for more troops is General McCrystal. The commander inside Afghanistan and the person Obama hired to make the decision.
The person "bleeding us to death" is Obama with his indecision. If Obama can not lead his troops then he needs to bring them home.
Moyers is correct. He's referring to the "chicken-Hawks" here state-side who are continuously taking pot-shots at any decision the prez makes. There is no political decision that will satisfy everyone. The time to make strategic decisions is BEFORE the US overcommits. Don't be short-sighted---remember the USSR in Afghanistan and US in Vietnam. Who won those conflicts? Noone.
America has "generational amnesia". It forgets all the lessons learned from past mistakes and repeats them all over again every generation or so. In fact, if you look at its history, America has had a major war every 20 years. God, what a stupid bunch of people (generally, but with a few exceptions, of course) Americans are. They were blessed with finding such a bountiful country but are too stupid and violent to really enjoy it. Their stupidity squandering so much on war is just getting worse.
Judging from your comment, I say your not in or from the U.S.
Sure we can elect a candidate, and our choice is honored (if the election was not tainted)
That person takes office and is bombarded by lobbyist (agents of large corporations who fund election campaigns) seeking benefit for their donations. In short our government representatives rely on us to appoint them, and once elected they work for the interests of the corporations. So we as Americans didn't have a say in the war.

I'm American. I love my country. I just hate what it's become frm such a noble begining. U really think the USA is what the Founders envisioned it 2 be & set down 2 paper? The America of today especialy after WWII, has morphed into an empire. Did U know that it has over 700 militry bases in 139 foreign countries? Has secret prisons. Conducts covert ops wherevr it wants. THIS is the USA that stands 4 all those pretty things on paper?
Correct: "Winning" involves, first, defining what winning is in terms that our forces can not only achieve, but achieve easily. Failing that, tt has to be a carefully guided, and even more carefully worded, EXIT strategy. The (US) media can be helpful by reporting milestones achieved toward that end.
On the ground, Afghans should see fewer, lightly-loaded planes inbound, and more, heavily-loaded planes outbound. At some point, achieve the final milestone, announce it loudly, and leave.

Maybe you did, just as I did.
But someone/something is filtering comments.
When I posted others, the (post comment) tab returned with "waiting for approval"
