I find it kinda... sad, that an old Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53 GHz) beats the Phenom II x6 on single core operations. Most programs are now multithreaded, but multi-core performance will only get them so far...

Intel's response to AMD CPUs having more cores? Hyperthreading.

AMD's response to Intel's TurboBoost? TurboCore, but it makes performance worse on multi-core benchmarks.

I hope they increase the performance on single core operations for Bulldozer instead of being core-happy.

Guys... AMD, have better price than intel, but... phenoms are much worse than core i5's for example... I HAVE AN AMD PHENOM II X4 @ 3.6, and an intel i5 750@ 2.66 is much faster than mine, NOT ONLY IN BENCHMARKS... Even nvidia disabled sli support for amd, because of the low performance (in bulldozer architecture, maybe nvidia enable suppor for AMD 9XX chipsets again)... So, if you have money, buy an intel... otherwise... AMD is not that bad too ^^

phenom II x4 c3 @ 3200 MHZ has about the same power consumption as a i5 750 @ 2666 MHZ at full load.

108*c is very much. mine c3 quad goes up to 72 on 90W air coller and it´s overklocked to 3.6 GHZ.

@quangluu96 It's not as simple as that, you need to draw the line as to what needs 6 cores. Plus I admit that the Intel chips are faster but they're not too cost effective compared to the AMD chips. Finally you have admit that intel fail at logo animation compared to AMD.

Though I must agree: the Phenom II X6 1090T is a beast when it comes to video editing, as it has more cores. the thing with bechmarkprogram is that intel maked the "genuin intel" C-kompiler that forces a AMD cpu to run in handikapping X86 mode. the intel C-kompiler is frequelty used by benchmarkprograms.

the AMD opteron is the best but it cost´s about 1000$.

intel i5 is(usaly) faster at the same clock. but i5 750(example) at 2.66 GHZ uses about the same power as phenom II x4 c3 while the phenom X4 c3 is faster in the real world.

if you compare the more expensive models the AMD 1090T uses only 125W max and will have very good performance when it comes to multitasking.

you will need a good cpu for video rendering. but i wouldn´t ruin my self for AMD opteron(server cpu) or i7 980x. i recmomed phenom II x4 c3,c2 of i5 760,750. phenom X& 1090t is a ve3ry good cpu when it comes to multitasking like rendering 2 viedeos at the same time..

both amd and intel has different cpu:s at different prices and they are good at different stuff. now intel has the best single thread performance but that might change with bulldozer. phenom II is old now and you can get a phenom x4 for 100$, for that prize you will get a very good cpu. much better than any intel cpu and mobo for the same money.

@gabrocki i think you are doing the right thing. i am 95% sure bulldozer will perform better than sandy bridge in almost everything. we are comparing a 8 core cpu with 16.375 MB of effektive cache (l1+l2+l3). with a 4 core cpu with 8 mb(l3) of effektive cache.

it's also about a year newer than sandy bridge so if it's not perform a lot better then that would be a hard failure for amd. there is some "leaked benches" out but these is with b1 and b0 stepping which has very poor performance

@gabrocki ive watched that video. If you notice at the end, the AMD had issues running SLI GTX 590 cards. When they both ran crossfire, they both tied. It is clearly an issue with the SLI drivers/GTX 590 Dual GPU graphics drivers on the AMD platform, as SLI is new to AMD, while its been around longer for Intel.

Both are great processors. Both will suit any gamers needs. Gaming comes most from graphics, not ALL CPU. Use your brain.

@gabrocki Actually I just built an AMD Athlon ii x2 250 computer with a good graphics card(9600 GT) and it runs it just fine. Games only use about 2 cores max, and playing a powerful game is using the full CPU if it is a dual core, so I give you that one. However it still is playable to the max if no other program is running in the background.

maybe the mb manufacturer had fix the bios/driver issue......since it had been out for year already.....anyway back to when it was release it was totally disaster when you run x58/i7 with win 7 rc.......it was later they tried to update the bios to make sure they work probably. my friend has it and it ran like hell as it always pop up driver warning and random crash which force him reinstall server 2003 x64 back again.
