There is something in this song that reminds me of "Across the Universe" by The Beatles and "Prayer (Does It Offend You, Yeah? Remix)" by Bloc Party. This is why I love Depeche Mode.

To those who seemed to have missed it, this song is talking about a person finding their place in the world...a.k.a. finding peace within themselves thus the meaning behind the line "peace will come to me". It isn't mentioning a single thing about world peace. I agree with Kiraiko44 on that one all the way.

There is no war. The scratch on the back is not from war but from ABUSE. The lady just got out of the army and found hard job (washing dishes) and got abused. Nothing to do with WAR.

The video reminds me of 'A pain that I'm used to'. In that video you can see female power, victory and sex-appeal with a car race between women. In 'Peace', you see female power as well, with a woman who supresses all of her suffering and carries on with her life, showing a lot of strength. Besides, the song is relaxing and leads you to think about things for a while.
