  • This was uploaded in 2006 and nearly 6 years later it only has nearly 2.5 million views!!! Something is seriously wrong with our society.

  • God I love YouTube.......!!!!

  • First took note of this song when Wilco played it at a show here in San Diego. Terrific.

  • This looks far better on the Beat-Club box set.

  • yes, a HUNDRED YEARS AGO there was that kind of americans too..

  • shit i should be saving this song for summer.

  • Happy new year to ray davis and the kinks legends through the millennia! :)

  • i don't even listen to this genre or any songs like this, i don't understand but i just like this :)

  • The Kinks are the best man!! Dead End Street, Mr Pleasant, Sunny Afternoon, You Really Got Me, Apeman, those are really good songs the will live forever even if the americans don't like it :)

  • @TheFernando0311

what are you talking about? Many (smart) Americans love all those songs, like me in California

  • @kinksboss1 Smart Americans???

  • @Samjeno

Haha...inventions of: electricity, cars, airplanes, computers, telephones, television, movies...your right, no smart Americans ever

  • @kinksboss1 Airplanes no.. Santos Dumont, from Brazil, the brothers were after him...

  • @Samjeno Even with a great song like this there's always some sniveling weasel spreading noxious fumes in the comments. That would be you. Grow up.

  • @TheFernando0311 Hi mate

Americans are for the most part guilty of not getting the exposure of great music from your side of "The Pond". The radio stations here play pure SHIT. I listen to Absolute Radio (Formerly Virgin Radio) from London and have discovered a wealth of music that I was denied over the decades; I grew up listening to The Beatles in the 60s. I am so thankful for youtube . The world is a better place for it.

  • 1 The Beatles

    2 The Kinks

    3 The Stones

    4 The Jam

5 Milky Wimpshake (search them on youtube or spotify if ur interested)

  • Not sure why comments re the Beatles - they're from the same era and have British accents but they're like chalk and cheese. I always preferred the Stones, Cream, Kinks, Hollies, Yardbirds, e.t.c. e.t.c. to the Beatles - songs like I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Yellow Submarine and Strawberry Fields are just fu*king irritating...

  • 1dylan 2kinks =3 nick drake and joni mitchelle

  • @rictorn Your number one and two are awesome, but three sucks.

  • but i dooonntt... need no friends

  • 1. Getting drunk

    2. Getting high

    3. Falling asleep in paradise

  • @mrclarkful bloody spot on mate!

  • The Beatles

    The Kinks

    The Small Faces

  • i've only just heard of the kinks. does anyone know any more good songs from this time that you can chill out to?

  • @sprinter223 sunny afternoon, lola, village green preservation society, village green

  • @sprinter223 You've probably heard more of their songs than you realise at one time or another. Have a listen to Days (original version by the Kinks and better than the 90s cover version), Sunny Afternoon, You Really Got Me, and Apeman. Here are some of my favourites : Victoria, Autumn Alamanac, Suzanna's Still Alive.

  • @PaulT1967 thanks mate ill definatly check them out. this is the most chilled out band i've ever heard. cheers

  • @sprinter223 death of a clown xD

  • PERFECTION

  • every time i listen to this song it just makes me happy no matter what

  • I never cease to marvel at this song. So evocative of the 60s but also timeless.

  • actually ... my list is like this:

    1 - the kinks

    2 - the kinks

    3 - the kinks

  • @jjjjkjkjkjful How do you remember your username?!

  • 1. the who

    2. the stones

    3. the kinks

    Third place, really?

  • coz ur a cock

  • Just saw Ray Davies (Lead Singer) last night.

  • o fuck what a song... what a sound! so perfect! then they even didn't realize how cool that was, especially from the modern point of you: the sound, the song itself

  • he's smiling 'cuz he knows - he wrote a masterpiece (this comment should be back up here)

  • I've loved this song since forever and never knew who played it. Thank you for uploading this gem.

  • @NorthCountryBoy43 You must have a penthouse, well done mate ;-)

  • The Kinks were a pretty good group back in the sixties....I preferred them and

their music to any other....I do`nt think they made one record I did`nt like!

  • I was born in 1988 and Know most of the Kinks songs, my parents don't, generation doesnt matter if u like rock u find out all the good bands: beatles, kinks, the doors, etc. But my parents were more into folk and protest songs

  • inspired by the Beatles no doubt

  • If this were by the Beatles, everyone would know and sing this.

    But it's not.

The problem is, unless you're the big hit of your time, you're forgotten by the next generation.

Unfortunately, if I mention The Kinks to 95% of people my age, they won't know who they are. It would be nice if the Kinks, along with several other bands of this era were more well known.

    But they're not.

  • @caesarsaysno thats sad

  • this is the first "The Kinks" song that i Liked .. :)

  • my fav. bands are:

    1. satan

    2. satan

    3. satan

  • well it's definitely up there

  • hands down best song ever

  • Masterpiece.

  • i love his smile at the start of this. he just looks so pleased with himself

  • I love how 95% of all "live" videos are a video of the band lipsyncing over a recording. Still a fantastic song, and the Kinks were great.

  • @jasonmoyer Most of the "lipsyncing" you write about were actually hy-bred lipsyncing. In that the guitars, drums etc were prerecorded but the mics were live....see The Animals "It's My Life".

  • Love Dave..smart geezer.

  • aww he looks so happy!:')

  • Bollocks to the Queen, thi should be the National Anthem.

  • great song!

    please check my cover

  • HOLY SHIT THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!

  • kinks, beatles, stones, who, doors, zombies.. all the 60s artists are great compared to nowadays shit..

  • @iloverock561 RIGHT ON !!!!!!!

  • THE NOVELLOS THE NOVELLOS THE NOVELLOS /get in the know

  • This is probably one of the most beautiful songs I have in my music collection. The only thing that saddens me is that when I talk about the Kinks with my friends (I'm 17, by the way), the only song they know by them is Lola. Don't get me wrong, Lola is an excellent song, I just don't think it deserves to be more popular than Waterloo Sunset.

  • i think people find it "cool" to dislike the Beatles just because they are so popular, they're popular for a reason they made hundreds of amazing and groundbreaking songs. but like the second bellow me guy said this is a Kinks video and i shouldn't really be talking about the Beatles.

    kinks = awesome

  • my fav. bands are:

    1. the who

    2. the stones

    3. the kinks

  • @gdiggtube You really got it!

  • @gdiggtube no beatles what is wrong with you i do love the kinks tho

  • @gdiggtube amen

  • @gdiggtube Swap the who for Led Zeppelin and ditto. :D

  • @jakehroehl let's just say 4. led zeppelin 5. pink floyd ;) anyway i'm not about to say that the who is better group then led zep, i love both, but i love the who a little bit more ;)

  • @gdiggtube Mine are...

    1. The Jam

    2. The Small Faces

3.. Blur, The Kinks, Artic Monkeys....Can't choose.

  • Comment removed

  • @gdiggtube So you like mainstream music, your missing out on all the real goodies that weren't as mainstream as them.

  • @MrDataCode u are right ;)

  • @MrDataCode Calling The Kinks mainstream music is borderline inane.

  • @gdiggtube Take out the Stones and the Who and swap 'em for the Beatles - I'm really surprised you would be a fan of the 60s groups and not put the Beatles on your list - are you high?

  • @gdiggtube Then you have a great taste in music, Sire. Hats off.

  • @gdiggtube Wrong! 1. The Beatles, 2. The Kinks, 3. The Beatles!

  • I don't think them Beatles could help the success they consumed. Kinks have a special kind of following though. Like us. I can't compare them to other bands. Beatles shouldn't even be mentioned while enjoying their music.. but it seems our little keyboards can't avoid bringing up a whole other band while listening to one that deserves no comparison and complete attention. Sad.

  • @fsanf164 I sesence a bad vibe we should all just get along and in joy the music man

  • @happysarah94 That's what i'm saying! doi

  • kinks >beatles

  • I find myself listening to The Kinks and The Doors more than I ever listen to The Beatles.

  • @ZenMaster1992 Me too.

  • @ZenMaster1992 I'm exactly the same, massive fan of classic rock but The Beatles dont appeal to me bar a few songs. The Kinks and The Doors, along with The Rolling Stones are much better than The Beatles.

  • @sours2kaii8 I totally agree, I think The Beatles overshadowed many of the other bands success. There is however no denying the influence The Beatles had on music and pop culture, but I believe other bands in the era deserve just as much recognition for being equally if not more talented and influential.

  • @sours2kaii8 you deaf dumb and blind.

  • A few songs I couldn't live without: Waterloo Sunset Days Apeman Sunny Afternoon Death of a Clown Lola The Village Green The Village Green Pres. Society Tired of Wating the list goes on...
  • Acid Kills 2 British chavs who tak too fucking much thus causing th herd to thin and only the smart survive.Acid caused THIS!!

  • @GBTTKvideos i have no fucking idea what you just wrote.

  • @plasticbudgie here , fair comment yeah , but there is no need to curse.

I mean it's a class song and you bring a curse into the coment bellow

  • @plasticbudgie Ebonics>English (Google Translate). LSD kills two British chavs (wiggers) who take too fucking much, thus causing them hurt to thin, and the smart survive. LSD caused THIS!

I have no idea what he said either...

  • @GBTTKvideos wtf?!

  • @SirSpanna Creedence isn't underrated at all. everyone loves them. and should.

  • Dig Dave's glasses and burns.

  • Brill!! number!

  • His smile is seriously gorgeous.

  • I think this is one of the most lazy and relaxing songs out there, and the best part is it's amazing

  • the old ways, every man to stand and only beast rides on beast. thats how law worked in the old dayz, hitler said, fear is the only thing people understand, and animal farm.

  • i freakin love this

  • Ray is so sexy! Damn! xD

  • memories !!!

  • ray davies's songwriting is ridiculous!!! he took it to a different levell, pure genius!!!!

  • Brilliant, simply brilliant. Almost as good are the Zodions a revival band who are currently rehearsing this (and many other) numbers. See their website..............tutordan

  • So proud to be British

  • A great song and Ray is a true pop genus and The Kinks rule!!! ... but this is not a live recording. It is the studio version being lip-sinked.

  • My favorite song. This song and The Kinks is fantastic. :)

  • hardcore

  • @wenfer2 xD

  • I never get tired of this song. I just break out smiling. Am I just getting old at 56? If so I don't care. The Kinks need to play again. Please.

  • cremlacrem said it best. these guys never got the notoriety they deserved

  • If the beatles had written this we would all be singing it today.

  • @shiningbeans We DO all sing it today.

  • One of the best songs i've heard.

  • my 'national anthem'.

  • Probably the best single ever!

  • Even after having listened to this song hundreds of times over the past 40+ years, I still get choked up when I hear it. The Kinks are beyond rating or comparison.

  • No better fresque of the british society ever in rock

  • i am in paradise

  • the song that Paul would have liked to write

  • I remember digging in the sand at a road construction site when I was 8 years old in 1967 and this song was in my head as it was on the charts! I Cannot think of a better music memory! My mom was pisssed when I got home, but Waterloo Sunset remained in my brain!

  • Aw I love this song. It just makes me so happy :)

  • He's smiling because he knows he's written a masterpiece.

  • @messinadavid true my freind

  • @messinadavid Probably the best comment I have ever read on youtube...

  • Ahhh! Love The Kinks! :)

  • what a great song. the kinks are awesome. if your a fan of them check out my kinks top 10 list. its the most viewed one on youtube. Also if you are a fan of classic rock my channel is dedicated to it.

  • Joe Cocker was a beast

  • @mowgliX well said.

  • Ah who gives a FOOOOK Kinks are unreal everyone just chill and listen to the fucking TTTTTUUUUNNNEEEEE

  • Love this song and waterloo bridge aw well : )))

  • Fantastic drummer, unbelievable bass player, incredible songwriter and singer, insanely creative lead guitar - One criminally under appreciated band.

  • this song will live forever

  • tells a story......sad and happy at the same time poetry.............beautiful

  • I love how Dave always smiles, like when he gives that look to Pete near the end of the song.

  • You can see where "The Killers" get their inspiration from.

  • @papano12 or not really...

  • @somecallmejames The killer's lead singer sings with the same pitches as Dave Davies did.. They admitted on Live TV that their biggest inspiration were the kinks.. So before you try to make people look like sht I suggest you learn more about the topic and get yours facts straight.

  • @papano12 why dont you take a count of bands who like the kinks, probably anybody that makes music likes the kinks retard, Same pitch... man you are full of it. The killers music sounds NOTHING like the kinks, not even one of their songs. Try harder.

  • @papano12 Dave Davies is not the lead singer of the kinks by the way... there is this other guy who wrote all of their songs and sang lead, you might not know him... Ray Davies?

  • @somecallmejames Yeah I get them mixed up at times. I meant to say Ray. Dave's the lead guitar player.

  • best song ever?

  • a word first of all to MowgliX the words Eugly and Beautiful are very subjective words after all as they Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beholder..... who determines who is beautiful and who is eugly... ill tell you who not the people directly but its the media... they arte noes who determine if someone makes the beautiful people list of the eugly list.. Sad really that we live in a world that dictates what music we should like or listen too cus this person is beautiful..Make up your own mind.
