@sabretooth1981 Yes I know they are not actually mondeo wheels but they are a similar style the ST24 wheels made from 1997-2000 that you can find on lots of sporty mondeo models. This is the newer style Top Gear recorded from 2002 onwards so they had been around for quite a while.

The shock towers are that of an e21, not an e30, which has more dome shaped towers. The front grill has the defined "shark" angles associated with an e21. e21 euro bumpers. e21 taillights. The most obvious are the body lines, clearly not e30.

i no e30s inside out and have owned many let m bring u 2 my 1st point the bonet does not come down on the side like that on any e30 ive owned also the engine bay is slightly different in there im not just talkin about the vauxhall engine, the front of the car is too sharp, the head lights are more flush with the grill and the bumper doesnt point out like that triangle shape also at 0.32 seconds the kidney grills are too narow the e30 are slightly wider definatly not e30 more e21!

Fair enough, junk the M18 engine (the 316 had a 1.8l engine), waste of time... but why the C20XE?

You can barely move for tripping over 325 straight6's that would literally bolt in with the 325 bits which would give more power. If it has to be a 16v then the 318iS M42 engine gives 140-odd brake and would also bolt in.

The nail in this muppet's coffin however, isn't the engine choice, it's the fact he got the paint job over an LSD.

The xe20 is one of the fest four bangers built 156bhp for the early ones and they had 180bhp but was tamed down by GM dont get me wrong i dont like vauxhalls but the xe20 is great and available for peanuts. Your probably right about the 2.5 conversion though bigger is always better. It just annoys me when people mock xe's when they are actually very good in terms of power and price.

not much of a bmw fan when i own a skyline at the moment, but i owned a cavalier sri with a 2litre engine it was ok but when i bought my e30 325 it was much better anyway, not alll bmw engines are good i wouldnt want to own a 316 or 318 but the e30 was well ahead of its time

This is to all you haters of the xe20 engine they are one of the best 4cyl engines ever approx 150bhp easy to wire up and also easy to carb up. 180hp is no problem and they are reliable to. vauxhalls are shit but the xe20 is wicked. They will knock the spots of a e30 m3 engine. Dont forget they at one time were available unlike genuine m3 engines that might be why this owner used it. I have to admit tho i think the body mods are terrible. This is only my opinion tho. I this e30 are awsome.

You are right bmw e30 engines are good i should'nt of used the word 'shit; they do about 215bhp have throttle bodied injection as standard and are special engines built in low volume. But xe20 engines will do 200bhp on throttle bodies they are very cheap and make good power a friend had one in a mk2 escort it had no mods apart from exhaust and filter and made 181bhp all for 100quid i dont think any bmw engine will produce that power for so little money bang for buck xe;s are hard to beat.

I have had a few xe lumps in various cars and as long as you lookafter them (like any engine really) then you will see good mileage from them.

The 20xe was overengineered with forged pistons as standard - many laster over 200,000 miles. I had a C20xe in a corsa and it was on 100,000 miles yet it still pulled like a train - I used to rev it over 7,000rpm constantly - great engine, very durable! When it came out it was the best 2.0 N/A engine in the world - it's still used today in the BTCC by the Chev team!
