  • I've seen this and your 336 video and you look like a woman from the side. Especially in the 336 video. Cut that hair hippie. You're not john travolta and your YouTube videos are not pulp fiction.

  • I bought a 1955 Marlin 39A Mountie about a month ago and it's simply an amazing gun. Really accurate and I haven't had a problem with it yet. Not cheap for a .22, but it's worth every penny.

  • Your gone looks pristine compared to my 39

  • or will any weaver railing fit

  • did you have to get the weaver railing special ordered for that model

  • If you're not using the iron sights, you'd be better be shooting from the hip.

  • which is more accurate the marlin 39a or wthe winchester lever action?

  • The Marlin's usually are more accurate when you use jacketed ammo. Marlin's unique "micro-groove" rifling really helps with accuracy.

  • shot one the other day and it was soo much gun but the open sight sucks

  • You can't go wrong with a Marlin 39A! I love how solid they feel! Years of practice makes perfect!

  • Im thinking of getting a 3-9 40x Tasco for my 30/30 Marlin, what do you think of them?

  • I have one on my .30-30, it is okay. You get what you pay for applies. It doesn't like to hold its zero after several rounds. You'd be better off with a nice Nikon Buckmaster for about $150-200. Quality counts in a scope.

  • Thank you for loading this video up. How many rounds in .22 lfb can you get in the magazine, and good do you come along with HV HP ammo?

Do you also have Marlin 1894 CB?

    Regards VG

  • It will hold 19 Long rifle, 21 Long, and 26 Short.

I haven't tried any high velocity ammo in it like CCI Stingers. Anything jacketed would likely do well in this rifle because of the Marlin micro-grove rifling.

  • So I heard about that "Micro-Grove" thing, but everone is telling something different :-((

... how is it affecting the weapon if I use regular unjacketed ammunition?

Do you know something about it?

  • You may shoot Long Rifle rounds or .22 shorts and do fine. However, I would highly discourage using "stinger" rounds, as they are higher velocity and put more wear and tear on the barrell. A .22 long rifle that shoots at 1280 from the muzzle or a .22 short that shoots 1,000 ft/sec at the muzzle is plenty of firepower for this rifle!

  • A very good point. I have no use for high velocity ammo in my .22 when I have a .17HMR to shoot.

  • I say you have no use for high velocity ammo in your .22 when the ammo you are using is high velocity. Do you mean "hyper" velocity, like CCI stingers and remington yellow jackets?

  • Yes. The "hyper" velocity ammo is what I was referring to.

  • Thank you for that answer!

Well I know .22 Short, doesent get produced anymore here in Germany, cause the sports shooting discipline Olympic Rapid fire gets done with .22 LR now.

I do know .22 Long Rifle... but what do you mean by "Long" ?

They have to be more short then .22 LR if 2 more fit in. What calibre is that?

  • There is a now obsolete and dying caliber called .22 Long. It is slightly shorter than the Long Rifle.

Micro-grove rifling is a series of shallow sections of rifling. It supposedly increases accuracy and reduces fouling and gas leakage. There shouldn't be any problems using lead bullets. The micro-grove just tends to work its best with jacked bullets.

  • Ok. so there is no need to worry about it!

This covers pretty much with all the others things I heard about it, especially in this calibre.

I think the better they lubricated the less barrel lead fouling you have.

    Thank you!

  • Doesnt look like a 22 model39A mine says 39D

  • It is definitely a model 39A. It is an older rifle though. It was made sometime in '87.

  • Great video, fantastic gun. I just picked one up earlier this week. Shame there are so few videos of the 39A on YouTube, I might have to make one myself.

How much side-to-side movement are you getting in the lever? A friend told me some movement is normal with all lever action rifles, but mine's moving around 0.25mm side-to-side. Just wanted to get the observations of as many owners as possible. Thanks!

  • It has a little play in it. About the same as you described.

  • Why do you need a scope on a .22? You're not gonna hit anything past 100 yards with one anyway.

  • It is very VERY possibe. I use a .22LR and I have hit pretty small targets at 125 yards. My friend used a .22 Magnum to shoot a Prairie Dog, distance was 195 yards on a Rifleman 550 rangefinder. It can be acceptable for a scope on a 22.

  • Do you guys use sand bags or anything to steady your aim? I just stand there, and I wouldn't consider myself a fantastic shot, but I do alright on one foot square targets out to about 100 yards. Other than that, I'd have to say that I'm sure .22 WMR has a lightly longer range than .22 lr.

  • slightly*

  • Scopes on .22's are beyond acceptable; I'd say the majority of the .22's I've seen have had scopes.

I only use sand bags when sighting the weapon. But the front rest seen in the video is pretty common. I suppose it depends on where you shoot, too; if you're going to the range, bags or rests are usually provided, and if not, you'll typically bring them if you're spending more than an hour shooting. If you're just out plinking, lugging around some type of rest usually isn't worth it.

  • I was using my marlin model 60 to hit stuff desert jack rabbits out to 150 yards with the factory open sights.....

  • That's impressive.

  • how about the 9422? accurate?

  • are u using 22 shorts in that video??

  • Nope. Those are full power long rifle. I don't think the camera was able to pick up on the crack of the round.

  • Ah, the marlin model 39. One of the finest lever's ever made in a rimfire caliber besides the 57M in 22 mag, and the 1894D in 22 mag. :)

  • how do you like the scope? I'm thinking about putting one on my ruger 10/22.

  • It is very cheap but works okay for under 50 yards. It does not do the 39A justice. For the money they are not bad.

  • Pretty nice little gun, I'll have to get one for myself one of these days. Best regards all! :)

  • my dad has a 39a he can shoot a 22 shell of a post at 25 yrds

  • I don't doubt it. They are extremely accurate little rimfires.

  • how much would one of those guns cost?

  • About $400-500.

  • Hi, my name is Fernando and I am Ovies of Asturias-Spain. I've seen your video on the carbine Marlin 39 A lever action. It's the best lever action carbine from 22 L.R. Do you know if Marlin continues making the model 1897T octagon barrel, is that I do not have e-mail Marlin firearms and can not consult the company. My e-mail: fernandoovies@hotmail.comMuchas thanks and a warm

  • As far as I know Marlin stopped making the 1897T a few years back. They still pop up every once and a while for anywhere from 500-1000USD.

Best luck finding one. They are great rifles.

  • have you ever fired .22short out of your gun? mine likes to stovepipe with .22short

  • I have fired one box of shorts through it. Worked just fine.
