I just watched this movie with my adult son and when I was leaving his place I told him the movie should have ended differently. I said I was going to make a YouTube video showing the auditorium blowing up instead of the jail cell. When I got home I googled "alternative ending" and couldn't believe I found this. This is the way it should have ended!!!
I LIKE IT!! seruisly that would have been the best ending, then he kills clyde in rage and ends up in prison for killing the man who killed his family. fuck what everyone else has been programed to think, that would be justice.
HOLY SHIT YES!!!!!! THIS IS WHAT I WAS HOPING WOULD HAPPEN!!!!!!!!! I was practically BEGGING in the middle of the cinema for that FUCKING Chello or whateverthefuckyoucallit to EXPLODE!!!!!!!!!!!

at the end of the movie I was waiting for a huge freaking explosion from the cello, and waiting and waiting , and then the movie ended , I was so disapointed :(

I had thought they were setting up the lawyer girl to be his girlfriend, and he was the secret boyfriend. Faking her death, and sending him the ownership details in order to get Foxx where he wanted him. Kill the mayor and goons, with planted evidence to frame Foxx as his accomplice. Disappearing and leaving him to rot in prison.
They instead went for the herp derp I'm a retard now angle. Great movie up until that point.
Hahaha you're such a fool who thinks he knows it all, well buddy sorry that im the one who breaks it to ya but you got no type of knowledge, Fuck off buddy :D
Well, I look at the ending this way. The lesson that Clyde tried to teach Nick was to stand up for Justice no matter what the jury says or what rules he had to break. By the book, there was no way that Nick could have stopped Clyde, but he broke into Clyde's warehouse and on top of that, put the bomb in Clyde's cell. This shows that Nick learned Clyde's point. If you look at it that way, Clyde wins in this movie.
I want to edit it so when the police and the eternee guy find the bomb in city hall and the fatass says you mean he can just blow it up? Cut in the scene of the jail cell blowing up. That would be cool. P.S how dare they not include and alternant ending.
@SoutHcouGars2010 I see your point. But an alternative ending usually mean its related to the original movie in the ending sequence. I wouldnt have looked up alternative ending before I watched the actual movie though.
i think the point of the real ending was to show that by killing all these corrupt people he was only causing the same pain he was dealing with. but he did make his dying point and changed foxxs life. yeah he was def way smarter than foxx and shouldnt have been outsmarted and killed at the end (sucked) but i think the underlining theme was he loved his little girl and at the end foxx finally watches his little girls recital. so its about the loss corruption creates.

Foxx's discovery of Butler's garage shouldn't have happened. The garage is Butler's staging ground and would NOT be left unsecured. No one wins!

seriously WTF i wanted the real ending to be with clyde (gerard butler) winning in the end and the building he planned to blow up actually explode so in the end the true corruption in the system ENDS instead of being SAVED...
every man who is wronged has right of revenge.and that black horse shaped cop and his daughter and wife should have died in the end...bravo whoever loaded this video...you have much better movie sense than moron who actually wrote this law abiding movie ending
its ending is so bad that all of movies fun goes to waste
Yeah I don't like the cheerful music at the end as if good prevailed. I didn't really see any good prevail. They bad guys got more power ETC. Lame imo. But the movie up until then was fanfreakingtastic.
@AntiEtc you need to look at the real picture. Had this discussion with a friend. If he has blown them up, it would be just like the rest, the good guy wins. I would never given the film a second look, great, so he blows them up. However, he dosen't ...he loses and thats what would happen, it's more realistic. It's not perhaps a happy ending, but it's a good one.
For the record, as others have mentioned, the Joker hardly lost. He fucked Bruces life over in more than one way. <--- All imo oc :)
THe problem i have with that is, that GB was shown all they way through the film to be 5-6 steps ahead of everyone, he had everything planned out.
If he had lost in a convincing manor, i would agree its more realistic. But he didnt it seems the writers wrote themselves into a corner, and had throw him the idiot ball to allow his downfall.
WHy was the bomb in the middle of the room, with no anti tamper devices. Why did he drive so slowly back to the prison. Why did he not have anti intuder at his garage entrance. It was all so the hero "Foxx" could outsmart him and win. It didnt feel true to the rest of the film and the character they set up.
@DeadEric Because Clyde wanted to kill everyone who allowed the lapse of justice in the murder trial, but to make Nick learn that what he was doing was wrong and to leave him alive, changed by the experience. Clyde comes right out and says this, three or four times. And at the end, when Nick says "I'm done making deals with murderers", Clyde is visibly relieved and says "Finally." He knew he was going to die, one way or another, for what he was doing, and he went to his death peacefully.
@DeadEric I know lol. A man as smart as him would have already thought about it. For example when you build a software program and you want it to be secure you ask your self how would I infiltrate it and then when you can you fix it and you keep doing it until it's fool proof. He had planned this for 10 years -.- but one you you have to learn about these type of films the good guys have to win.
Very true. The end was total crap. Some office chair legal paper jockey wouldn't have outsmarted an assassin who was a think tank engineer that worked for the freakin Dept. of Defense for cryin out loud. In the real world or even the "movie world", that shit just ain't happening. Every part of this movie was amazing until the unconvincing ending. With the ability of a mind like the character Clyde Shelton combined with his hurt and rage......he would've burned the world down.
@DeadEric He should have succeeded in blowing up city hall and ended the movie with him walking toward the camera and the prison exploding in the background.
@DeadEric Thank you! Jesus Christ! The ending to this film is akin to Batman losing a game of chess to Solomon Grundy. It just doesn't fit. Nick should have shot him in the head to prove Shelton's point: "When the system fails, you have to take the law into your own hands to do what is obviously right". It would've fit with what Shelton said: "I'm gonna bring the whole fuckin' diseased, corrupt temple down on your head. It's gonna be biblical". That would've been some solid irony.
@DarianHarman its not legal what nick did. Taking a bomb into prison, how is that not taking the law into youre own hands ?? When youre looking for that you should not complain. If you feel like answering this read my other comments here I hate to repeat myself.
@majkos9 You're missing the point. I'm not arguing as to the legality of what he did, but merely stating that Shelton being outwitted in such a fashion is out of character for him. Shooting him in the head would have been more definitive and tidy, narrative-wise; whereas allowing him to destroy himself---despite that this route is counter-intuitive due to the fact that he has yet to outsmart Shelton even once; though still placing all of his eggs into one basket---is just lazy writing.
@DarianHarman I dont now what happend I thought I already wrote reaction to this. Anyway I know nick shouldnt outsmart Clyde.I m just saying nick took the law in o
wn hands. If Clyde would get a headshoot in the end it wouldnt make the end any better. The only way to make the last 30 min of the movie correct is to make Clyde want Nick to find his hideout and make him pay while nick thinks he has the upperhand.
@Gergbu I never wanted the good guy to win this badly as when I was watching this. It's not perhaps a happy ending, but it's a good one. ????????? Youre kiding me?YOU ARE ON DRUGS GET HELP!!!!! The ending raped the whole movie. If we were in roman law the ceasar would kill the makers and their famaly's JUST FOR THAT ENDING. Its totaly f cked even deaderic's is better and he turns Clyde into a CHILDKILLER.That ending was a 1000 minus on the scale of 10. FOR REAL GET HELP I m worried.
Just imagine all of the techies in our midst. This is the perfect movie to scare the public into supporting massive outlays for law enforcement, and the erosion of Constitutional authority. The psychology used by Hollywood is all too obvious. And to think we're dumb enough to buy into it...
@juicym19 But judgment is not ours to make. "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." ~Luke 6:37
i hated the ending to i bet it would have been way better if he did not die and got away and they died it would have had a way better rateing and way less predictiable and a over all better movie!
bravo brava bravisima cause the ending SUCKED and wasn't logical at all. the directors suddenly went for the hollywood ending.. cowards!! like jamie foxx could ever outsmart gerard butler in the movie!
@EntertainmentTrends Yeah, because the multiple people he murdered had their deaths justified by following policies. Sorry, but killing in the name of symbolism is still murder. They never physically harmed him or his family. He deserved everything he got.
@EntertainmentTrends None of them were corrupt they were just doing their jobs apparently your reasoning is off key, I don't see them favoring criminals they are doing what all justice systems in the fucking world do. Sure it wasnt entirely right what they did, but in no way was he a good guy, he didnt handle it the right way. Killing those innocents was in no way right.
@EntertainmentTrends You don't get what the point of the movie is. It's not a revenge movie. He was screwed over by the law with a technicality. Legally he wasn't allowed to be killed because they knew it was him but they had no solid evidence so they can put him on death row. He wanted to send a message, he wanted them to break the rules to bring him to justice. True justice. Not all of the technical crap.
You don't make deals with murderers, you bring them to justice.
@evan3452 that fucking blows, imaging that in the saw movies everybody learned there lesson and survive at the end, that would suck, thats what is cool about the first saw endings, the characters get owned
why do every film critizing the system, have to end the same fucking way? Why cant the bad guy some time win? Even though "Man of the Year" does not resemble this movie, it also ends the same way.....almost saying that the system is the "good guy". Fuck it. When killers can walk free, there is something wrong.
@Ko252 I thought of the supposed antagonist as the good guy. The people let others who had killed his wife and daughter off with a slap on the wrist, and when he brings justice he gets into a predicament like that. If anything, such corrupt others deserved to die in the explosion, not the man trying to compensate for his horrible loss.
Great alternate ending dude. Finally someone makes JUSTICE to this film that ony worths in the original if you let the cinema seat 10 minutes before ending.
Great job DeadEric. I'll try to paste it on the movie to have a great film too.
@williamsobieski Clyde was the good guy. Nick(Lawyer) made a deal with a guilty man in the past. He was right to do what was needed. The justice system doesn't work anymore. Bad people are being free and innocent people are left to die in prison. Clyde was a engineer who saw his daughter die and wife raped and killed right in front of him. Darbe got what he deserved and Renalds as well. All that was left was Nick. The only mistake he did was that he killed that girl but that was nick's fault
YEs!!! this shouldve been the ending... the accualy ending didnt make any sence..how the fuk did jamie fox's character Nick get to clydes cell wen clyde left before jamie fox did..
I sure wish it ended this way

every man who is wronged has right of revenge.and that black horse shaped cop and his daughter and wife should have died in the end...bravo whoever loaded this video...you have much better movie sense than moron who actually wrote this law abiding movie ending
its ending is so bad that all of movies fun goes to waste
drkjke 1 year ago
well done!i also like majority of humanity thinks that law abiding citizen movies ending was crap
in ending that black shite cop and his wife and daughter should have been killed by hero
drkjke 1 year ago

Gergbu 1 year ago
@Gergbu

@DeadEric
DeadEric 1 year ago 73
@DeadEric Because Clyde wanted to kill everyone who allowed the lapse of justice in the murder trial, but to make Nick learn that what he was doing was wrong and to leave him alive, changed by the experience. Clyde comes right out and says this, three or four times. And at the end, when Nick says "I'm done making deals with murderers", Clyde is visibly relieved and says "Finally." He knew he was going to die, one way or another, for what he was doing, and he went to his death peacefully.
mickycisme 11 months ago
@DeadEric There were a lot of "why" moments in that movie. The more I watch it, the more I notice them. Still a good movie and one of my favorites!
c32amgftw 10 months ago
@c32amgftw Agreed good movie, just suffers from Hollywood ending syndrome.
DeadEric 10 months ago
@DeadEric I know lol. A man as smart as him would have already thought about it. For example when you build a software program and you want it to be secure you ask your self how would I infiltrate it and then when you can you fix it and you keep doing it until it's fool proof. He had planned this for 10 years -.- but one you you have to learn about these type of films the good guys have to win.
cannonbulk 8 months ago
@DeadEric I totally agree with you. As smart as this guy was, he should have been able to outsmart Foxx, even though Foxx outsmarted him.
This movie built up it's audience and then totally let them down at the end.
andenisa 7 months ago
@DeadEric

DSXmachine 1 year ago
@DeadEric Thank you! Jesus Christ! The ending to this film is akin to Batman losing a game of chess to Solomon Grundy. It just doesn't fit. Nick should have shot him in the head to prove Shelton's point: "When the system fails, you have to take the law into your own hands to do what is obviously right". It would've fit with what Shelton said: "I'm gonna bring the whole fuckin' diseased, corrupt temple down on your head. It's gonna be biblical". That would've been some solid irony.
DarianHarman 1 year ago
@DarianHarman its not legal what nick did. Taking a bomb into prison, how is that not taking the law into youre own hands ?? When youre looking for that you should not complain. If you feel like answering this read my other comments here I hate to repeat myself.
majkos9 1 year ago
@majkos9 You're missing the point. I'm not arguing as to the legality of what he did, but merely stating that Shelton being outwitted in such a fashion is out of character for him. Shooting him in the head would have been more definitive and tidy, narrative-wise; whereas allowing him to destroy himself---despite that this route is counter-intuitive due to the fact that he has yet to outsmart Shelton even once; though still placing all of his eggs into one basket---is just lazy writing.
DarianHarman 1 year ago
@DarianHarman I dont now what happend I thought I already wrote reaction to this. Anyway I know nick shouldnt outsmart Clyde.I m just saying nick took the law in o
wn hands. If Clyde would get a headshoot in the end it wouldnt make the end any better. The only way to make the last 30 min of the movie correct is to make Clyde want Nick to find his hideout and make him pay while nick thinks he has the upperhand.
majkos9 1 year ago
@Gergbu couldnt hav said it better...but that would hav been a shocking ending 2 it though, right? but i agree 100%

And to think we're dumb enough to buy into it...

yes you are right
someone please rewrite this movie and make it again with ending shown above by deaderic
drkjke 1 year ago
@EntertainmentTrends Yeah, because the multiple people he murdered had their deaths justified by following policies. Sorry, but killing in the name of symbolism is still murder. They never physically harmed him or his family. He deserved everything he got.
MangoJ 1 year ago
@EntertainmentTrends None of them were corrupt they were just doing their jobs apparently your reasoning is off key, I don't see them favoring criminals they are doing what all justice systems in the fucking world do. Sure it wasnt entirely right what they did, but in no way was he a good guy, he didnt handle it the right way. Killing those innocents was in no way right.
xSWATxRiFt 1 year ago
@EntertainmentTrends You don't get what the point of the movie is. It's not a revenge movie. He was screwed over by the law with a technicality. Legally he wasn't allowed to be killed because they knew it was him but they had no solid evidence so they can put him on death row. He wanted to send a message, he wanted them to break the rules to bring him to justice. True justice. Not all of the technical crap.
You don't make deals with murderers, you bring them to justice.

TheSwiftkid2010 1 year ago 2
why do every film critizing the system, have to end the same fucking way? Why cant the bad guy some time win? Even though "Man of the Year" does not resemble this movie, it also ends the same way.....almost saying that the system is the "good guy". Fuck it. When killers can walk free, there is something wrong.
Ko252 1 year ago
@Ko252 I thought of the supposed antagonist as the good guy. The people let others who had killed his wife and daughter off with a slap on the wrist, and when he brings justice he gets into a predicament like that. If anything, such corrupt others deserved to die in the explosion, not the man trying to compensate for his horrible loss.
