The aggressive, uptempo sound to the song belies the seriousness. I'm a bisexual girl but I haven't found the courage to be open about it, and I've realised how terrible it would be to force someone to live in that secret with me. That's what's so brilliant about it. The simplicity of only playing 3 notes, but still making an incredibly intense song. To me being an amazing artist isn't based solely on their ability to play an instrument, it's how you utilize it.

I don't know if I'd describe this as brilliant. As I said before if you took the vocals out, it's not really that intense of a song. Would you be able to listen to 3 notes for 4 minutes over and over? I agree that an amazing artist isn't based solely on their ability to play an instrument. I mean listen to the Beatles, they weren't some flashy million notes a second guitarists etc but they wrote brilliant songs and HUNDREDS of them in less than a decade.

I'll say it's nice to listen to 3 or 4 times but after that I'm bored and all of the rest of her songs sound the same. I find versatility and the ability to create music in a ton of genres also shows much more talent than appealing to the masses of people with simple pop songs. If you're REALLY into music listen John Frusciante, Calexico or Iron and Wine. Now THOSE are incredible talent.

I'm not going to try and convince you it's brilliant. That's the beauty of individuality. I 100% agree that listening to it without the vocals would be boring. To me her music is more focused on the vocals and lyrics of a song, listening to the story being told. That's why I love it. The point I was trying to get across was that I don't think the people that think this is amazing are basing it solely on the guitar playing, but more on the story being told and how she tells it.

Yes, it is about the story telling and I get the whole "less is more" effect. The simple fact is I said this would be boring without lyrics and it is. This is pop music though, it's MEANT to be simple and catchy and appeal to the masses. She's pretty, I'm sure that helps with marketing also. There are far better lyricists with far better talent on their instruments than this but it doesn't appeal to the mainstream listeners. THAT'S why people think this is "brilliant".

Check out live vids of songs like Casualty, greed for your love, Cactus that found the beat, this is how it goes, Scar, Warm whispers, beautiful mind, sound of white, the river....Fair enough if you don't like her. I just think she's a little more varied and talented than you are giving her credit for.
