What I find horrible is that she says she'll keep the door opened so that he can call her.. and she finally doesn't do anything to save him.. I'm not sure I agree with that even if he's been a terrible father for her.

Neglecting and resenting her her whole life, betraying and abandoning her mother to sire an illegitimate kid off a woman young enough to be his daughter, then favoring that illegitimate kid and leaving her practically everything! Even Nadine's rightful home! I wouldn't have come at all, in fact I would have spat on him and demolished his grave.
@Karenjadegirl You have some issues. All of these characters are complex & interesting. You keep harping about Julien's sins which is, frankly, boring--all of them have committed sins. Nadine, Kate, Julien, all are flawed. Julien didn't leave Fauve "practically everything"--Nadine was extremely well-taken care of, by French law. Nadine's lack of communion with her own father is truly sad but it's one of those things that just is. Sometimes parents don't always connect with their children.
Yes, I have issues with selfish, arrogant men who hurt their familys. And Kate and Nadine's only so-called "sins" were acting as any wife and daughter would in that situation. And not connecting with your child just because they don't share your main interest is no excuse for resenting and neglecting them their whole life, then insulting them in your will and leaving them the crumbs while the favored illegitimate kid gets the cake.
