  • no man never said the most

    /watch?v=lzZsp8SvJj8&feature=related

  • Hardly underrated - a legend in his own day and winner of countless emmys.

  • 'You'd be surprised sonny,so many of our shows had nothing to do with being in the army, it's just that we were in uniform....' the world is made up of people and he was a great person

  • I just got into The Phil Silvers show, My dad used to watch and loved it. I saw an episode "The Twitch" ... Funniest thing I ever saw... The guy was a true master, the Alexander the great of comedy.

No one can come close today to match his style!!!

    God bless ya Phil!!!

  • God Bless Phil Silvers...A really lovable guy and a great talent!

  • What a legacy this man has left us. Thanks Phil.

  • this must be about 1983 or so as he mentions Harvey Lembeck "who died recently"..brilliant Bilko. His legacy of shows are unbeatable.

  • Superb. They don't make um like that any more xxx

  • @meirion500 they didn't make very many then, either

  • True genius!!

  • one in a million. How old is he here?

  • @amemy1 He was 74 when he died on Nov,1985.

  • @yogafan6500 Thanks for reply. Smoking and drinking took its toll I guess, still the laughter is very good for a person, and maybe ofet that. A great Man.

  • one in a million.

  • Bilko was one of the greatest, comedy shows of all time. We will never see the likes of Phil Silvers again. He was totally unique.

  • I've just completed reviewing season one on DVD, I hadn't seen this many episodes since the early 1970's. A true sign of genius is the fact that the sharp comedy of these shows is NOT dated, 56 years later. Nine episodes out of every ten is a laugh out loud classic. It's really sad that there have been so few sit coms since that hold up so well. MASH, Seinfeld, Larry sanders, not many others. Seek out Phil on Gilligan's Island, the best episode of that otherwise fairly weak series. Cheers

  • Anybody notice there's no lenses in his eyeglasses??

I read that he had eye surgery and his vision was corrected that he didn't need lenses, but he wore the glasses without lenses so people would recognize him.

He wore glasses without lenses when he was performing Sgt. Bilko on television because the lenses had bad glare on camera.

  • Made me laugh when I was a kid.God bless him.

  • Good Ole Phil Silvers. What Years Was This Interview?? Because I Knew he died in (1985).

  • bilko was the greatest comedy ever. phil silvers is a genius.i could watch sgt bilko all day

  • i grew up watching sgt BILKO , the best thing in life is to make people laugh . R.I.P.Phil Silvers.

  • This man is a legend. Loved Bilko. Timeless. The garage fight scene in the movie 'It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world is one of the funniest things i have ever seen.

  • complete first series of Bilko are available now. brilliant!!! thanks Phil for giving us such a great character! You are missed.

  • man i loved to see this guy on tv. he is so funny. Phil you gave me a lot of moments to laugh. thank you very much. RIP in heaven

  • the world is much sadder now that he is gone.

    yiskadal ve yiskadosh,.......

  • The funniest TV show ever.Phil Silvers, Nat Hiken and everyone else in the cast left a fantastic legacy behind.Their families should be immensely proud of the laughs they gave the world.

  • I could listen to Phil all day long.

  • The combination of Nat Hiken's writing and Phil's acting made Bilko the greatest comedy of all time for me.

  • both nat hiken and phil silvers were comic geniuses, along with al de caprio. brilliant actor.

  • He looks very frail.

  • Bilko...the best ever. Also..."Carry On..Follow That Camel" , "Mad Mad Mad etc.", "A Funny Thing etc." Excellent.

  • A genius. It is great hearing about what happened to the rest of the cast.

  • He was brilliant in It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world. . . where he played that sleazy opportunist Otto Meyer. That scene with him and Don Knotts was pure genius. Great stuff.

  • Phil Silvers is brilliant. I am fortunate enough to study with his daughter, Candace Silvers, who teaches the genius of his work. I recommend her classes to any actor, writer, director, producer, and to anyone in any industry.

  • Brilliant!

  • Phil Silvers was such a genius.

  • Great clip! I love the Joe E. Ross comments, CAR 54 is my favorite show ever. Both created by Nat Hiken! And Phil Silvers is great of course.

  • The funniest show ever by a mile.

So many shows have since stolen his lines but who cares they are free for everyone to use

  • He looks more like his old self in this clip than he did in Happy Days. I wrote to him in 1980 asking for his autograph but heard nothing.

  • Good bless this man !! he was a breed of genius that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere !!

  • Brilliant stuff,in a league of it's own,no one can't touch Bilko.not just him, but the whole crew, i still watch it very regular.Bilko was the Don.

  • "Turn off that beauty where only human you know."The Guy/Bloke knew how to chat up sheilas and was much loved in sad old Australia,a place with nothing but just drunks walking around.Hello TOLED OHIO.

  • He was one of a kind. Watch how he gets excited as the interview progresses.. and his face brightens!

  • Sweet! :-)

  • pure comedy genius

  • Phill 'Earnie Bilko' Silvers Classic 60's TV comedy ;-) I have about 50 episodes that I'm watching of Bilko now Its good clean fun. PS's comedic timing is second to none In the 80's, the BBC used to show all the shows : I Love Lucyy, Bilko, I Dream of Genie, Laurel & Hardy, Mr. Ed et al. Now they stopped, why :( They are and always will be timeless, and they still make me laugh as they did 20 years ago Now you have endless drivel & dross on TV Shame RIP
  • Yeah. You're right. My first memories are of the opening music and the Doberman cartoon.

Are they available on DVD? Why did the BBC stop showing Bilko, anyway?

  • You were the best Sarge...

  • you da man phill

  • his work in its a mad mad world was just awesome!! You can't help but love this guy after watching that movie!!

  • brilliant, he was in a league of his own, ahead of it's time.made in 1955 & in 2009 it's still funny. how many episodes are there?i want them all.

  • television series which ran on CBS from 1955 to 1959 for a total of 143 episodes (including a 1959 special).

  • 143 episodes and not one bad one in the bunch. TV Land used to air shows like Bilko. Now they put on garbage like The Cougar. What a shame.

  • I just bought all 143 episodes of the Bilko series on DVD. :)

    Comedy perfection!

  • copy them and send them to me ... ;o)

  • @stripymccatpuss You can buy ever episode of Bilko for as little as £14.99 on E-bay.

I have them and they are great quality

  • this guy was good

  • underrated genius, perfect timing.

  • one of the greats!!! what a shame he ended up in a mental instution....they should show his shows back on the bbc like they used to on a sunday night at midnight....

  • Great great comic!!

  • he was unique.

  • Let's not forget his stellar performance in "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". I still have the original 3 hr uncut version on VHS. There is a DVD version with 20 minutes cut. I've seen it at Walmart for ten bucks. Grab it. Funniest film ever made.

  • Also his performance in the Disney classic, "The Boatniks" !!

  • I also have "Mad World". The funniest movie ever. He was just hillarious.

  • Always loved his quick paced sarcastic comedy style. THanks for posting !!!!!

  • i loved Phil. He was one of the greats and i was sad to hear when he passed away. what an ORIGINAL

  • oooh ooohhhh ooooh

  • I have a checked signed by Phil Silvers!

  • That's pretty cool. What was he paying for?

  • Probably a gambling debt...the check was from 1963 to a friend for 100 dollars...

  • what a great legacy to leave a show light years ahead of its time

  • I didnt understand Phil's style of comedy when I was young. Now, as an adult, he is a total riot.

  • "..a real schlong joint." ..hil-larious!

  • He's like an old mafia boss bein interviewed there. He was a legend. Just been watchin some Bilko's on DVD. Great comedy.

  • I believe this was taped in October of 1985. He died one month later after this interview.

  • Bilco at this moment is charging 2$ each for a glimps to see Elvis hose down his wings is his long driveway! heyy yah yaay upp!! Bilco - "AHHH but you must be mistaken SIR!"

  • Superstar Mr. Silvers

  • He doesn't sound too good.

But He was able to recall his work

    on"The Phil Silvers Show"as "Sgt.Ernie

    Bilko"..God Bless You Mr.Silvers!

  • there will never be an actor as charismatic and charming as phil silvers. he's gonna be well missed, but on the possitive side, GOD will be rolling on the cloud laffing at the antics of m/sgt E.G Bilko
