I don't know why Steve Cropper is so under rated. He's as good as Cray and Clapton, and he was in the Blues Brothers movie. Or maybe he is famous and he just flew under my radar all this time. I loved Booker T since I was a kid and just now realized he was in the BB movie from 1980-maybe I'm behind the times.
@6irondriver He's not under rated. He was voted 2nd greatest guitar player of all time by Mojo Magazine in its famous poll of music experts and professional musicians.
I've heard this track a 1000 times ... hey, they've played it 1000 times. And still, they're clearly aroused and I am again. They manage to avoid fearful jazz-soul cliche and lay down some erect, tasteful, spacious funk. Effortless, timeless and nailed ON.
@SpookieLoveCookie Agree! And it's the perfect example of each musciain sacrificing ME for the overall goal of the band, the team. The effect is hugely powerful and selfless.
This was probably the first jazz recording that ever fell in love with more than forty years ago in Brooklyn. I"m 52. Thanks for posting. It sounds as great as the original album. What a pleasure and a joy.
This was recorded in Cannes during that years film festival. They played to an all-too- mellow crowd. The audience was comprised of a bunch of uptight international film jerk-offs who sat on their asses all night. They should have filmed this in Paris proper where they are truly appreciated . VIVA LA STAX!!!!!!!!.
I remember this in Dad's truck on the 8 track, back when a kid could stand up in the middle of the bench seat. Oh and Dad had a Coors light in his lap, I was groovin' and ya' know what? We didn't fuckin' DIE!! Rock on-- I hope?
this has always been one of my favorites by the MG's. i love the way that they loosened up and strayed away from the basic groove of the original recording to interject some new riffs to this tune.
you guys should check out a band called the mar-keys ( tube it, its in here ) its some of dunn and croppers first music, im not shure if jones is in on it but its still very groovy.
My boys, Booker T and the MG's. These cats are so bad. I grew up listening to them. Thanks McGarvison for the add. This is real music. Work it, fellas!!! YESSS!
if that's what you say, well we don't like douchebags around in my neck of the woods, we must never have this drummer comming around here...............
plus it's miked with that horrible 80's drum sound, which makes him even worse. Anyway, Jackson's cousin was supposed to be great live, and it wasn't that much better than this one when I saw them 3 years ago. I mean, we judge any drummer the MG's might get these days by comparing them with maybe the best R'n'B drummer in the history of music, so maybe that's not fair...
Looks like Jaun Epstien on Drums!
