You don't need imagery to love music. You don't need security at least ,while you have music you love, which is born of love, because the music itself should enlighten every synapse of your brain and blow your mind wherever it will..
Gregorian Chants speak to us of God from the heavens. Baroque music speaks of God from the Cathedral. Liszt religious music speaks of God from his heart. All of them are ways of showing us the unspeakable. Not everybody can see or hear God: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God". Music may help to purify our spirit. Thanks for this music.
How is the realization of the fact that one can read several different kinds of imagery into this musical piece, depite its original intent or programmatic content, supposed to make me "feel more secure"??

I usually don't like Liszt's religious works but this one is pretty nice actually.

All the blabbering aside, this could as well be a love-song that has nothing to do with any "gods" whatsoever.

@twooffour no. this is obviously a song for God. Liszt lived a monk's life for a period of his life.

Yes... but from the sounds of it, without the backstory, it might as well be something else.
