While looking for more videos of KR i learned that he recently died... Can't believe it...
Kenny Rankin was an AMAZING vocalist & an incredibly prolific musician, the likes of whom only walk the earth once in a blue moon... I always thought of him as "a musician's musician". It always puzzled me whyt he was not more famous, but then he never went for "mass" appeal. His scatting was totally unique...
RIP Kenny... there will never be another YOU... Your body of work will live on forever...
Kenny has what I believe to be THE best male voice I have ever heard.....I saw him twice at The Rams Head in Annapolis, Maryland and he was amazing....
Frankieheartsful, thank you for your comment! come to think about it, not many that I can recall. Those were fun teenage discovering days for us all, the street corner singing, and in subways or in poolroom hallways,or at our own parties. This was our musical school room were we learned to love music. in the 1950ths in Washington heights, New York.
This is a very unique & fabulous rendition of this classic song. Smooth, stylish tenor vocals by Kenny R., fantastic piano, bass & guitar work as well. Would've loved to have seen this show! RIP Kenny,...not unlike many other very talented artists,...the appreciation for his work has only increased since his passing.
I was so saddened to learn of Kenny's passing. What a wonderful privilege it is/ has been, to "know him" through his beautiful voice and music. Thank you Kenny... you will live on in my heart and mind... I hope to meet you one day, in Heaven, where I'm sure you are an angel.
An Excellent Performanance. I believe Kenny Rankin was one of the best singers ever, and in the class of Billie Holiday, Sinatra, Nat King Cole, among others.I met him a few times at the Bottom Line, The Other End, and his jokes were great, and I was happy to tell him how he influenced by vocal style.I always joked with him about his old guitar. I Miss Him.May your Music Live Forever Kenny. Hartley C.
Kenny I remember growining up as teenagers on 160th st. in Washington Heights , NY during the 1950ths as if it was yesterday!. Singing Doo Wop as a group, you and I and frankie, and Larry. Little did we know than that music would play a big part of our future lives.
Frankie went on to become the lead of The Teenagers, Larry became Tiny Tim singing his 1920ths songs, I went on to sing bass for the Chevrons, and you became one of our most talented singer song writers of our time.
Thanks so much for sharing your fascinating story; I have such respect for the gteat work that all of you accomplished. It goes to show what a small world this is.
I have followed Kenny's whole careeer and finally got to meet and talk with him at a local venue near is home...just a great, great, guy with a ton of talent and humility...I'll miss him. I'm sure he's walking through his Silver Morning.
mr. Rankin was a major talent. His contribution to American music and the world of art is vast. His was a voice of the ages and should never be forgotten.
I second your sentiments. In November 2006, I was in New York when he was performing at the Iridium. I wanted to go see him however other commitments prevented me from going. I am kicking myself black and blue. Well, at least we can still watch and listen.
Go way back with his music. Saw him in many small venues around the country in the mid 80's. This performer needs to be brought out in a big way. Great talent and getting better with time.
he is not singing in falseto...I have a natural tenor as well and I know the difference....thats why he sounds so pure and strong through his entire range..its a rare gift.
Never did see him live, but I bought all of his first 7 or 8 albums. Rankin is one of those talents that deserves far more success than he has received. The world needs to hear more of this guy.
It's great to hear Kenny Rankin again. I first heard him in 1975, Citrus College. I also heard him in the 80's at the Golden Bear, Huntington Beach. Wonderful musician. What's he been doing lately?

Yes I am Al Conde
Yes Tiny Tim was older
Frankie Lymon was younger
