If there was ever a guy who didn't need to lip sync its Richard Page, He's better live than on recordings. Check out Broken wings live at the Ritz to see what I mean.
The drums in the chorus sound live, or at least played on top of the recording. But you're right, it's the studio version. That's pretty obvious when the gospel singers kick in.
ANNOUNCEMENT:On 7/19/10, Richard Page announces in a web radio interview that Mr. Mister's final unreleased album PULL has been re-mastered and will see the light of day "soon." Go to listenin.org and look up Mr. Mister in the INTERVIEWS page!! Good news, eh?
I think in the 1980s when they lip-synced during a performance, they didn't really care to make it look real. To me it seemed like they were flaunting the fact that they weren't actually singing it live; it was a little unprofessional, but still very good song and great band!
So like, right around 3:00 poor Steve George's keyboard falls to the floor and Richard is definitely trying not to crack up. LOL! Oh the joys of stage performance.
Pardon me for thinking such a thing then, I just think that most stars today have over inflated egoes and think they can treat their fans however they like, Britney for example.....
Steve's keyboard fell off it's stand...yeah okay, a bit funny, but it just shows they are human beings..if Lady GaGa today, for example got something wrong she'd probably throw a huge hissy-fit and go swearing offstage!!!!
Well, could have religious inspiration mainly because Mr. Mister comes from a Christian culture, but I´d rather call it "spiritual" because it can be perfectly understood and enjoyed by people with no theological knowledge or different faiths.
im 36 and a bass player of many years...so great to hear him play on this track..they only had 3 big commercial hits..from sept 85 to june 1986 was thier time in the radio spot light..i was 12 at the time..and then i hear this and it makes me mad why was this not on the radio..its great!
Stunning performance as ever with these guys! Beautiful song too. I am not a Christian but I appreciate quality music and meaningful words. Come back, Mr Mister!
Saw them live at the Palace in Hollywood...back when there was a Palace and a Mr Mister...Great Show. Page is in my Top 5 male singers With Bebe and Marvin Winans between them (1-3) Michael McDonald and Page... I'll never be able to finger out who's 4th- and who's 5th...Come to think of it. Page and MM should tour together...
It is an awesome song by the way and yes Page needs to come out of semi retirement and do stuff from Pages, Mr.2, Matinee...and heck the phone book...
Is Mr Page in semi retirement? My God! He's not even old! What a waste of a brilliant voice! He should get back up there and do his thing and put today's rubbish artists well in the shade! Same goes for Peter Cetera!
They're absolutely stunning, even if it's lip-syncing...I imagine they had to do this quite often, especially during tv shows...One of the best songs ever, pure passion!
It's not live, of course (these shows used to never be live), BUT -- that's a different mix than the record, by a wide margin. I'd love to have a clean copy of the audio they performed with.
If this was played in church every Sunday I'd consider going back. This is one totally underated anthemic classic, if it were covered today by a band they'd have an instant N0 1.
Check out Steve George's keyboard falling off it's stand at about 2:36. After that he just stands, sings and claps. I'm sure this wasn't truly "live" but I still wonder what that sounded like.
How did you spot that tiny detail?...But who cares anyway about little mishaps? Mr Mister are still great, their music immortal for those with good taste and this little incident doesn't dent our belief that they were a talented group.
I wasn't knocking them. The music is great. I'm a stage musician so I guess I pick up on that stuff. I would be embarassed if it happened to me and a little angry at the person who set up that keyboard stand. It would have made a pretty big thump on the stage and the first several rows couldn't have missed it.
That being said, Mr Mister was a great band and Richard Page/Steve George were a genius duo!
Yeah..the audio is from the studio (album) version. This was the first CD I bought in 1986. All vinyl before that. Don't know why this record wasn't good enough to keep them together. Every song is great.

There are some differences with the album version though. I didn't know they made a 'single remix' ...!

Actually she didn't. She just continued on with the set last time that happened.

this is a real song about real life and religion and everything that goes with it, not sex, that's why it's so good, it's DIFFERENT!!!

All their songs hit home with me its sad they did'nt carry on they would have been more legendary.
They would have done well to play in europe and broaden their appeal
