It's a shame there aren't any sodding night buses now - that would be too much like providing a decent service. I can't even get home from Sheffield centre after 7pm without shelling out for another ticket on top of my day saver. Sorry, sorry... I'm forever moaning about the state of Sheffield's public transport.
@Dr0ctave rightly so it's a mess. On the routes where Stagecoach threaten their pot of gold the fares and frequencies are great but on the other routes they don't seem to care. I get the 82 and it's £1.30 a single and about £17.50 for a week ticket - assuming you just use it for work there and back where's the incentive to get a pass!
@gitface007 that was the whistle buses. An inspector blew his whistle at 11:15pm and all the buses set off. The reason why they were all going very fast is, the faster they went the quicker they finished work.
OMG that is so cool; I used to get the 'Whistle Bus' when I came out of 'Romeos & Juliets'. I now live in 'The "O.C" (Southern California) we don't even know what a bus looks like here!
Great memories thanks but have a thought for the driver of the 49 Wordsworth Avenue bus which was relocated to the bottom platform and had to turn left up Pond Hill to get on to flat street while all the rest were comming towards him Nightmare
When I was younger, my Aunt told me about the last buses leaving at the same time. It was so cool when I finally caught one of the last buses. I used to vary between the bus station and the High Street! How sad was I? But I thought it was fabulous!
The last bus was known as the "whistle bus",as an inspector would blow a whistle bang on 23;15 and the buses would leave as fast as possible,which meant the driver would get home quicker.
I didn't hear the whistle?

That brings back some memories, from when I was at East Bank Rd in the mid seventies and eighties.

@craigbeaumont414
The Atlanteans for SYPTE had Voith gearboxes. The only other Atlantean to have a Voith gearbox was Tyne & Wear PTE's 244, SCN244S.

I remember this at the Rotherham bus station, all going up the big hill to destination Herringthorpe.
