picking up the cello after a 9 year distance from any kind of touch.. I played for seven years during my early years, I'm now 23. I wanted to let you know that I think this is wonderful what you have given me here..
I was admiring your technique and commented on a video that was uploaded by someone else. Just recognized my mistake.
I play percussive fingerstyle guitar &Chapman Stick. What you are doing with the cello is very exciting to me. I've been thinking about getting a NS Designs NXT ecello and beginning to experiment. Wondering if you have ever tried your flying pizzicato on an ecello? Also do you think it's possible to get clean, audible notes with just hammering down?
@UnseenOnAndOn - I've played some of the NS cellos, and I find they're well suited to clean tapping/hammering. Sure, flying pizzicato works too. But an acoustic cello provides a satisfying "pushback" to FPizz that I haven't experienced on electrics. Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for the comment & question Shamen63. My advice? Write what you must, and trust that performers will acquire the skills & calluses required to play it!
Wonderful! I am a composer and am intrigued with extended pizzicato writing for cello. A concern I have is that many cellists might be reticent to embrace a piece that calls for four to five minutes of constant pizzicato playing due to fatigue issues, etc. Can you offer some advice? Thanks!
Thanks for asking about Exodus sheet music. Go to cellocelli website, CONTACT US, and tell them you want to purchase Exodus. The CD with the full (8 minute) version will be available in April 2011!
His plucking is not in the wrong place, because if you have ever played a cello you will realize that there is too much tension on the strings near the bridge to be able to pluck as fast as he is. Also since the strings are more taught near the bridge you can't possibly get the same loud sound out of the instrument. It is not a guitar, and it does not play the same as one either.
@n120983 You are speaking in terms of general Cello. However there is something used in classical music called Sul tasto which means playing on the finger board to give a different sound. So there is more than you think than the general Cello playing.
Great sound. I'm a cellist and composer working on some similar things. I've just uploaded a video of my all-pizzicato piece called "Odyssey". Give it a view!
As others have said, I've looked for a pizzicato cello sound like this, simply awesome piece. and I see nothing wrong with your plucking or its location haha
This is excellent! I could definitely listen to a whole concert of that! I play viola and I have tried playing it guitar style but I have never come close to that!
Mister Stephen Katz, sorry if my english is not par. I'm translation from google. But what wood is your cello made with?

This is suchhhh an amazing video.
The blending of classical themes with the more unique pizzacato style (including the use of the shaker) were really really cool!!!
When I hear the cello used for music other than the traditional classical style i remember why I enjoy playing the cello!!

Hey! Great playing! And I've been staying in tune for this manuscript. Where should we look for it?
And are you going to include performance notes detailing your pizzicato style? That would be interesting...
