@Maxhansendk - you are too harsh. Rolando's voice is rich and beautiful. He sings with beautiful line and grace. His high has never been his strongest, but he makes up for it in all other ways. He is an incredibly talented musician and performer. One of his biggest pit falls is he works too much and gives of himself too much when he is working, sacrificing his voice. @operaame You don't develop nodules from over singing. Nodules are very uncommon in men in the first place. He has some serious tongue tension going on, as well as lack of development in head voice and chest voice.
Rolando really drives this-- he's just a little ahead of the orchestra, which I love. He's fabulously musical. I really think he's one of the best (in spite of his being sometimes a little sharp). When he's on, he's so on.

Absolutely love his voice and would love to see him perform live. I think if his opera career is over as the critics say, then he should step into the realms of Power Metal and Symphonic Metal. He'd be amazing for sure.

A complete media PR fabrication! In reality he is one of the worst tenors I have heard perform. Netrebko also bears witness that recording with him was a "nightmare"! Villazons voice cracked more often then not...Sad that media has such an influence.

Sometimes I even suspect people of writing comments to defend their "golden goose". But It is very difficult to get proof of this. But I do have friends with deep knowledge of IT. And they help me whenever I ask them.

Ho sempre pensato per più di 50 anni che questa é la più giosa canzone nel mondo. Descrive una festa di ballo sulla spiagia nella notte sotto la luna, forze nel baio di Napoli dove ha lavorato Gioachimo Rossini nel Teatro San Carlo. Villanzon la canto con tanto brio, energia ed anche la goia. Se ho avuto un mezzo del suo talento, cantarei questa canzone in un costume di bagno con gli occhiali di sole! Get a Life!
We have all done things we would on reflection not have done - and we wake up years later with the embarassment so fresh. The whole kitsch atmosphere, his appearance and everthing gives opera/tenors a bad name. This is apity as basically Villazon is NOT a bad singer - he just needs to calm a bit sometimes. It is the sheer bad taste of all this in terms of setting - and his hair and shirt. But this is not the worst of his performing this piece by Senor Villazon. Just look and see elsewhere.
Why oh WHY is he hosting that show with Katherine Jenkins??? It's a bit like asking a fillet steak to judge peppercorn sauce alongside some minced beef.
he is so funny. Its too bad his technique is lacking so much which in turn resulted in him needing surgery. I hope he gets a grip on a better technique.
villazon is one of my favorite tenors, he puts so much into all of his performances and his interpretations are all great, i was devastated when i heard about his vocal crisis, he is such a unique tenor, great vocal capability

La opera tambien es interpretación, coincido con Villazón cuando dice que tambien es contar una historia. Puede que Villazon no sea lo más grande del mundo (No creo que el mismo se haya visto asi nunca) pero es un buen artista, espero que se recupere de su problema y que de ahora en adelante aprenda a no forzar su voz de la manera en que lo hizo, pero hojala siga con la misma pasión, carisma y entrega de siempre!

'FredFable', la dicción nada, absolutamente nada tiene que ver con términos como "bajo" o "gretesco". Una buena dicción, independientemente de la lengua, implica pronunciar correctamente, acentuar con elegancia, frasear respetando las pausas. Por tanto, si este "muchacho" (que ya no es tanto) quiere cantar correctamente - no sólo canciones napolitanas- necesita mejorar grandemente su fraseo y dicción. Aquí, simplemente, es patética. E insisto, su voz parece encerrada en una caverna.
¿Y dónde quedaron el fraseo y la dicción? Además de que su voz parece encerrada en una caverna, al tipo no se le entiende en absoluto. El canto no sólo es gritar y gesticular como un demente payaso. Esto es una ofensan a Rossini y a los grandes tenores (Caruso, Gigli, Di Stefano, Kraus, Aragal, Araiza y hasta Ramón Vargas) que han hecho de esta tarantella una obra maestra de la música napolitana.
Lo que más me sorprende es que te atrevas a expresarte así de un cantante de el tamaño del señor Rolando Villazón, ponte a estudiar y después abre la boca para expresarte de esa manera y yo que sepa Rossini lo que buscaba era esto precisamente lo que realizo Rolando, que le dio, además de buena entonación, el ritmo que debería llevar una "DANZA" un excelente apoyo, por si no te diste cuenta y créeme que ni Kraus ni Ramón Vargas (aunque los respeto mucho) .

la calidad de una obra artística depende mucho más de las virtudes que Villazón tiene que de las que le faltan. Lo que importa es que nos llegue, que nos provoque algo. El arte no es una ciencia exacta ni tampoco un deporte. Prefiero mil veces un Villazón con defectos que no percibo ante su calidad artística que un midi aburrido. Y mirá que yo soy música y también víctima de todas las horribles locuras que padecemos los de mi gremio, como por ejemplo escuchar el error y no el arte.

haha waoh. obviously you haven't heard of his vocal "cyst" which is actually a nodule. it's widely known that he physically pushes to artificially manufacture a darker sound- this is bad technique. I'm not saying i don't like his voice or his performances... i mean i've seen him sing three times... but a lot of highly respected critiques called the fact that he would have an early end to his career. He will never sing the same after this laser surgery he's getting this year.
i don't mean to cause any offense, but it is factual that he has canceled a lot more performances than the typical "super star" in the last two years, and his excuses were all "laryngitis" which was never the case. there are plenty of recordings that reflect his lack of technical refinement... such as the most recent Lucia he 'attempted' at the met this year where he stopped the orchestra to clear his throat before he sang a Bb (which, at his level, should be a 'money' note, not an uncertainty)
I am a singer as you can see on my attached web site to my username. I think it's a special and interesting story on how this singer become so popular. I see this song was lowered 1/2 tone. I'm aware of where he stops at high A. I know exactly how Caruso sang, and I know that today its a separate discussion on who does any part of it at all. The Peruvian singer is a few miles ahead; but I don't buy his records.

Usually I don't like him, but he's not bad at all here. I think this is the best version I've ever seen, he's the gets the real feeling of this piece. However, that's just my opinion...
Villazón tiene una técnica excelente técnica (aunque Vargas y Araiza me agradan más) sin embargo hay algo que nunca me ha gustado del todo de él, todo lo sobreactúa. Y este comentario va más allá de la técnica... esto ya es cuestión de actuación.
No se lo tomen tan a pecho, yo admiro mucho a Villazón pero me inclino más por cantantes de corte sobrio.

Sometimes I even suspect people of writing comments to defend their "golden goose". But It is very difficult to get proof of this. But I do have friends with deep knowledge of IT. And they help me whenever I ask them.

Descrive una festa di ballo sulla spiagia nella notte sotto la luna, forze nel baio di Napoli dove ha lavorato Gioachimo Rossini nel Teatro San Carlo. We have all done things we would on reflection not have done - and we wake up years later with the embarassment so fresh. The whole kitsch atmosphere, his appearance and everthing gives opera/tenors a bad name. This is apity as basically Villazon is NOT a bad singer - he just needs to calm a bit sometimes. It is the sheer bad taste of all this in terms of setting - and his hair and shirt. But this is not the worst of his performing this piece by Senor Villazon. Just look and see elsewhere.

Me desagrada que la gente piense que la opera tiene que ser toda solemnidad.
La opera tambien es interpretación, coincido con Villazón cuando dice que tambien es contar una historia. Puede que Villazon no sea lo más grande del mundo (No creo que el mismo se haya visto asi nunca) pero es un buen artista, espero que se recupere de su problema y que de ahora en adelante aprenda a no forzar su voz de la manera en que lo hizo, pero hojala siga con la misma pasión, carisma y entrega de siempre!

'FredFable', la dicción nada, absolutamente nada tiene que ver con términos como "bajo" o "gretesco". Una buena dicción, independientemente de la lengua, implica pronunciar correctamente, acentuar con elegancia, frasear respetando las pausas. Por tanto, si este "muchacho" (que ya no es tanto) quiere cantar correctamente - no sólo canciones napolitanas- necesita mejorar grandemente su fraseo y dicción. Aquí, simplemente, es patética. E insisto, su voz parece encerrada en una caverna.

¿Y dónde quedaron el fraseo y la dicción? Además de que su voz parece encerrada en una caverna, al tipo no se le entiende en absoluto. El canto no sólo es gritar y gesticular como un demente payaso. Esto es una ofensan a Rossini y a los grandes tenores (Caruso, Gigli, Di Stefano, Kraus, Aragal, Araiza y hasta Ramón Vargas) que han hecho de esta tarantella una obra maestra de la música napolitana.

la calidad de una obra artística depende mucho más de las virtudes que Villazón tiene que de las que le faltan. Lo que importa es que nos llegue, que nos provoque algo. El arte no es una ciencia exacta ni tampoco un deporte. Prefiero mil veces un Villazón con defectos que no percibo ante su calidad artística que un midi aburrido. Y mirá que yo soy música y también víctima de todas las horribles locuras que padecemos los de mi gremio, como por ejemplo escuchar el error y no el arte.

se supone que esta obra es cómica y bufa, por qué estaría mal una interpretación "demente" o hasta ridícula? Bien por él que experimenta valientemente en terrenos riesgosos e igualmente gana. Triste es el que piensa que la música clásica tiene que regirse por reglas antipáticas, elitistas y anti artísticas. Un intérprete musical debería siempre tener muchísimo de actor. Cada partitura es un libreto lleno de "palabras" a las cuales es necesario dar vida.

haha waoh. obviously you haven't heard of his vocal "cyst" which is actually a nodule. it's widely known that he physically pushes to artificially manufacture a darker sound- this is bad technique. I'm not saying i don't like his voice or his performances... i mean i've seen him sing three times... but a lot of highly respected critiques called the fact that he would have an early end to his career. He will never sing the same after this laser surgery he's getting this year.

i don't mean to cause any offense, but it is factual that he has canceled a lot more performances than the typical "super star" in the last two years, and his excuses were all "laryngitis" which was never the case. there are plenty of recordings that reflect his lack of technical refinement... such as the most recent Lucia he 'attempted' at the met this year where he stopped the orchestra to clear his throat before he sang a Bb (which, at his level, should be a 'money' note, not an uncertainty)

I am a singer as you can see on my attached web site to my username. I think it's a special and interesting story on how this singer become so popular. I see this song was lowered 1/2 tone. I'm aware of where he stops at high A. I know exactly how Caruso sang, and I know that today its a separate discussion on who does any part of it at all. The Peruvian singer is a few miles ahead; but I don't buy his records.

He would be in his normal place (tenor number 10 000 in the line). It is a tragedy many talented tenors never get the chance...But this (not mediocre) but outright weak tenor keeps performing as though he was talented. An "over the hill" 70 year old Domingo is still much, much better!!

Villazón tiene una técnica excelente técnica (aunque Vargas y Araiza me agradan más) sin embargo hay algo que nunca me ha gustado del todo de él, todo lo sobreactúa. Y este comentario va más allá de la técnica... esto ya es cuestión de actuación.
No se lo tomen tan a pecho, yo admiro mucho a Villazón pero me inclino más por cantantes de corte sobrio.

La verdad es que si yo fuese mexicano o peruano, me sentiria muy orgulloso de Rolando o Juan Diego, respectivamente. Triunfar en Europa no es fácil, la competencia es mucha y muy dificil, y para sobresalir hay que ser EXCELENTE, ambos son excelentes.

Que lastima que opinen ignorantes como tu, pero en fin, es la libertad de esxpresion; ojalá estudiaras un poco, antes de decir babosadas, Villazon es uno de los mejores del mundo, Placido Domingo lo impulsó, y decir que es un tenorcete, es decir que Placido no sabe de Opera..., fijate lo que expresas, antes de Regarla tan feo a nivel Mundial, SALUDOS!

Plácido también ha tenido sus limitaciones,pero por lo menos él usa una mejor técnica y si ha cometido el pecado de recoger y elevar a este tenorcillo, errar es de humanos.Qué lástima en verdad que solamente te guíes por lo que diga Él y no puedas elaborar tu propio juicio crítico,pero en fin.Los aficionados tienen todo el derecho a tener sus preferencias.
