do you believe that someone can learn real Pronunciation just by learning phonetic? any learner have to live in the country and then he can learn the correct Pronunciation
YouTube is being unfriendly and deleted it when I was trying to reply last night! I was like 'nooooooooooooooooooo'. Can you remember what it said? You could repost and then I could reply like nothing ever happened. Silly YouTube.
Explaining our pronounciation to others can be tricky, especially if there are no direct equivalents in their language.
The German "CH" is often a problem for native speakers of english.
Thank God for the Scottish and their Loch Ness, which gives me an example for one kind of CH sound (as in "Sprache"). I've not found an example for its softer counterpart, however, as in "Licht".
The 'ch' is certainly tough. 'Loch' Ness is definitely closest for the harder 'ch'. The softer is more difficult - I've heard many German learners, for example, make 'Licht' rhyme with the English 'wished', which sounds really strange to me.
I often tell people to imagine they are trying to clean the roof of their mouth with spit from the back of their throat! Haha sounds strange I know, but it often works.
It's very common to say Fahrrad, because a Rad is also the wheel. But Rad is exactly like the English bike. You can use it. Everybody will understand. I usually say Drahtesel. Wire-Donkey.
I suppose it depends what your native alphabet is like. I once read that when Japanese are being taught how to pronounce 'silver', the closest they can get is 'shiburu' (シブル) because of the limitations of the available letters. Until they learn the English alphabet, that is.
Yeah, just what we all need, an Aussie tilling us haa Jimman saands kin be rinnded into English.

You can say it "Lischd" if you want, but only if you're in your teens and part of the in-crowd.
One approach that works for at least some English speakers is to say the word "huge" in a loud whisper.
rewboss 3 years ago 2
...and then use the h as a ch?
That's effin brilliant, rewboss!
AericWinter 3 years ago
Ha, typical MissV idea. I shall totally try that out next time.
Though I may want to take a few steps back first.
AericWinter 3 years ago
Aeric: Ich hätte da für "Licht" das weiche CH zumindest für die Polen zum Vergleich :D
Es gibt im Polnischen das "S" mit einem Strich drüber, das ähnlich klingt wie das weiche CH.
Im Englischen wird's schwieriger... oder unmöglich? :)
Miss V: cooles Video mal wieder :) Hoffe du hast meine Mail bekommen?

dont you say "Fahrrad" for bike? (at least in berlin, "Rad" is only a wheel, "Farhrad" is a bike)
PD: im learning too, im spanish "aber Ich wohne in Berlin seit 2 monate"
skarlinx 3 years ago
nvm, leo says "Rad" can be a bike too
skarlinx 3 years ago
Rad = Bike
Fahrrad = Bicycle
Same difference. (c;
P.S. Want to impress a German with your language skillz? Try "Krad", which is an old military abbreviation for "Kraftrad", meaning motorcycle.

oh, thanks!!!
