Good on you I wish i could deal with having a bag like you.I am a 56yr old male living in New Zealand got crohns when I was 35 this destroyed my whole large intestine so 7 years ago had an illeostomy but also had my butt stitched up. I have had no end of problems with hernias and am now waiting for my forth revision, this time they are going to lift my illeostomy up to just under my ribs where is is less likely to cause another hernia fingers crossed.
Ive had one for 25 years NOT FUN !!! Jeans are a pain as they can release the clip as can underwear and belts aaaaaugh !! Its a daily challenge I have to admit
Thank you for doing this. Had an ostomy for six months. Very challenging with lots of complications. You are beautiful, and you are admired for demystifying this.
Hi i have a ileostomy done about couple mouth ago i was in a bad way before and after so many flare ups, being so skinny ,bleeding my doctor had me get surgery after surgery i was doing okay until i came home and my bowel burst i felt ill being sick, bleeding in the bag really thought i was going to die i was so scared but now i have less bowel than the normal ileostomate and my surgeon said he could still do a reversal which is a relief just thought id share my story to give people hope
...me any advice on how to gain some weight back or what your diet is like please i would really really appreciate it!!! thank you so much hope all is well!!! =)
hello iam so happy you made this campaign i just heard about it unfortunatly =( i too was diagnosed with chrohns about 3 years ago and had to get a bag and have had it for a year now but its still hard to get used to it all. Anyways i too have also lost alot of wieght from crohns and being in and out of the hospital but you look good i mean i look wayyyy too skinny like anorexic skinny lol no offense to anorexic ppl so sorry but you know what i mean? i was wondering if you can give... cont...
i my self have an ileostomy -stoma bag. I was rushed to hospital back in February for stomach cramping and found out after a few tests i have bowl cancer (8cm in diameter) and the weird part is im only 30, so i had a stoma done within a week of being admitted and was so sick for about 3 weeks after since then ive just finished 5 weeks of radio and chemotherapy. The cancer is still there but i find out tomorrow when and if it can be removed
@gears244 wow i cant believe u have had it for so long ... n yes the surgery is a cure but even after all of this is all over it wont change what i have been through..... and your right im starting to get the hang of it but its hard cause i cant go swimming or work out how i use too but im so happy my friends are very understanding n supportive ... i hope that u get ur surgery asap and that everything goes well... waiting for my 2nd surgery too :)
I was diagnosed with Sever Colitis in Dec. 2005 (I was 17). During the Summer of 2010 my Colitis stopped responding to medical treatment. I was bleeding out quite heavily and was going to the bathroom about 40 x day. I had to have my entire colon removed on July 17, 2010. I now have a temporary ileostomy with an ileo-anal pouch (J-Pouch). I was in hospital for 4 weeks after. I'm currently waiting to have my J-Pouch connected up in a 2ed surgery. I Vloged my entire experience on my channel.
2 months ago i got my ostomy bag! its been really difficult adjusting to it but when i heard about you.... like honestly i feel a lot better about myself and i know that this will improve my health .. i admire you so much for everything you do and how well it seem you are handling the situation:) my ileostomy is for a short time... i have ulcerative colitis... thank you for inspiring me :) im only 18
@Daniloves24 Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this surgery a cure for Ulcerative colitis? I had my ostomy done when I was 15 and it usually is difficult the first few months, but everybody adjusts, you'll be fine. I have crohn's disease and have had my whole colon removed, I am supposed to do the reversal surgery soon after having it for 3 years now. It is possible that my crohn's will return even after the surgery. I am now 18 too, and I am a guy.
You are an inspiration to others - Keep going! Thank you for sharing your story. I had an ostomy last year and have embraced it. Never felt better and suffered for almost 20 years (diagnosed when I was 16 years old with severe Crohn's)...life is so much better now!
@ravidatta29 I am new to this!! I went in for a routine c-section and came out with an ostomy!! I am so angry right now!! I can't see better days yet!!! Give me some advice on how to better deal with this!!!
Respect! Wow what a great advocate. I'm particularly concerned about the stigma still attached to having a colostomy (you only have to search the word on twitter to see what I mean). Having such a beautiful and eloquent young woman 'bearing all' is just what is needed to break down the taboos. Rock on, girl!
thank you for putting this video up, i have had mine for 2 years and i was looking for ways to cope, that means a lot that you would come and do this for others
Great job, and nice photos... I am all for the idea that we should not be ashamed of our ostomies or have to hide them. And at the same time, I have to admit that I'd be embarrassed to tell most people. And I've had mine for 12 years.
hmm i don't know about this one i would feel it is part of my private or something i wouldn't want other people to see it. i wouldn't mine telling them i have it though.
