@TokenDeadGuy I do believe our ranks go: Ensign, Leftenant, Captain, Major, Leftenant Colonel, Colonel. Ensign and Leftenant are the same as the 1st and 2nd lieutenants in the US army. Though, in Canada's army we call them Second Leftenant and Leftenant.
Anyone know who this recreated regiment is? They look the the early Argyll and Sutherland HIghland Refigment from around the Victorian period. THere pretty good though. Some of the marching commands are period correct so thats a little fubar, but other than that, fun to watch
yup, I've seen that manual too, on microfische. So awesome finding something like that. They also use that manual at Fort Henry, with very similar interpretation, I dunno if anyone already mentioned that. Anyways, great video, thanksfor posting.
My arguement is that people are allowed to present and showcase their history... Your "argumenbt"? Well, it consists of being angry... and quite possibly some loose throat skin. Maybe even some high blood pressures.
While I do that, go back to being piss angry about everything. Your arguement still is way too silly for anyone to take you seriously, perhaps your father was a crazy ol' man who hated everyone outside the country who spoke of Scotland.
"U KANT TAWLK OR LERN ABOWT UZ CUZ WE"RE SCOTZ NAWT U!!!!"
Yeah... brilliant arguement kid, but anyone who's not an asshole won't buy it. Sad really, I thought all scottish were proud people, but you're just displaying poor character which is embarrassing.
Ain't the internet something... you can become quite the flamer for no apparent reason. I am a scottish canadian weather you like it or not, and for you to tell me otherwise is simply childish whining for no apparent reason. My grand dad told me numerous times I'm scottish. I live in New Scotland, I taste her culture, I am a piper and I display my family tartan proudly.
Nope... I'm just a stupid fucking foreigner to you am I. Scotland has and did influence outside it's borders.
We apparently have two different views. You dislike the fact that Scotland has heritage outside it's borders. Oh yeah, the reason why I said you dislike Canadians was the overall nature of your first post.
I figure that you're an angry person, but who knows what the fuck you're angry at... heaven forbid people be proud of their roots. Fine I'll say it. NO I'm not Scottish in person, but I am Scottish in heritage and family.
I've never met a scotsman who disliked others being proud of their heritage... and if you dislike why we dress up as scotsmen, its because the SCOTTISH are apart of our heritage. Nova Scotia means New Scotland, so of course we'd have scottish roots. I'm proud that I'm scottish, yet here I see some guy on the internet saying that it's wrong. Why? Not entirely sure. Maybe you just dislike Canadians in general.
Um... they're both. It's not that hard to work out.
Secondly, you seem to have some sort of dislike about this, I'm going to go ahead and ask why (but I don't really expect much of an answer). Feel free to say as to why it's bad for people to preserve history, just wondering since you dislike it so much.
And lastly, once a scotsman always a scotsman! Good day to you sir :D
The drill you seen demonstrated is taken directly from the "Evolutions of Infantry 1867" I can assure you that this is exactly what a Scots Guardsman would have done up to at least 1872. No swinging of the arms while marching for example was one feature of the drill. The 1867 manual is widely available if you would like to check it out.
Oh and the 78th Ross Shire Buff's were a Scottish Regiment. In service of the British Crown no less, but calling a Scot "British" could end in tragedy.
OMG, that brings back memories..I was RA as my first job on the Hill in '82..Awesome time~~~

We need to start doing real Bayonet Exercise again...
But I love the way we did skirmishers last year as opposed to this... They didn't even advance.

We did this show today, but with 36 infantry, 2 sergeants, one leftenant, and one drummer (myself). It was loud, it was epic.

@lordintelligus a leftenant is a second lieutenant right?

@TokenDeadGuy But do keep in mind, we're purely re-enactment. =P

Yes. It's the "78th Highland Regiment".
In 2006, we visited the Citadel to watch my brother, with "Bydand Forever", perform for the centennial of the British garrisons leaving Canada.
Great show and lots of fun.

The drill is accurate. I've read the drill manual myself, as well as done this exact drill.
