  • Hi there is there any shortcut keys for creating a new keyframe? I couldnt find any reference in the user manual :c

  • @jaspehh return key, if you haven't figured it out already ^^

  • dude thank you so much for this. just watching someone else do it helped a lot

  • how do i export it? im having trouble with getting it on wmm

    halp?

  • This is amazing!

I've been really wanting to try animating for some time now, so I appreciate the video.

But I have a question: What is that grid picture you dropped into Pencil at 0:24 ?

    Where can I find it?

    Thanks so much.

    ^.^

  • Thanks awesome man. I've wanted to make a little animation like this and now I can!

  • what is the screen recording software you are using?

  • this type of animation was around long before claymation.

  • MORE pliz.....pliz...pliz

  • Hey, It's me again. What is that background thing you got up to measure the speed and distance etc.? thanks!

  • You mean the line I drew?

As it says in the video a bouncing ball increase/decrease in speed while bouncing - that means the slower it gets, more pictures is needed.

Another approach that is used most often is to draw some key positions(keyframes) and add pictures in between (inbetweens).

That way you can easily get a feeling of what the animation will look like and change the "gap" between the keyframes to adjust the speed before drawing all the inbetweens...

  • .. (In most cases..) much better than drawing every single frame from start to end in sequential order, not knowing what it will look like until it's finished.

  • How do you keep the balls path on the screen? Mines just keeps disapearing

  • Click on the little circles next to the layer icon or the circle above the layers.

  • What song is that?

  • Did you make that music in garage band. It's pretty good!

  • Ummm... I need help. I want to upload some of my animations to YouTube but when I export them as MOV files, they aren't where I saved them. When I save them as PNG images and try to play them in Movie Maker, they don't come up on the screen. Its just black. Help!

  • Oh I kinow what your talking about! The problem is that the export to MOV and export to image sequence command does not work in Windows currently, it only works for a Mac. So all you can do right now is wait for a new version of pencil OR screen record your animations like you see in this video.

  • @RunningStream111 That's odd. While Quicktime export doesn't work on Windows, image sequence export does work for me. It also works under Ubuntu Linux.

  • beautiful! Pencil seems very user friendly.

  • hi

how do i want to save the animation that i jz draw?

  • You mean export the animation, right?

If you for example want to upload to youtue use "Movie..." (doesn't work in windows I think) or export as still images and put together in an other app. (The standard camera size works good for youtube)

  • yup to save the end project into video form. btw, it will b saved in wht kind of format?

  • For final export I recommend using the png export(movie export gives bad colors and png gives better quality than jpg). Just don't forget to make a background (ie paint a white background that will cover the camera area) since the png images will have transparency.

If you use windows you could try Monkeyjam or Avidemux(for linux and os x as well(but I haven't tried it yet)). Or you could look for other programs that will do the task(have a search on download . com, versiontracker, macupdate).

  • Tack.

  • varsågod!

  • How do you get the grid?

  • I took it from the site "Animation Meat" and resized it to pal(european format).

    animationmeat . com/templates/templates.html

  • nyone know how 2 export d vids u make afer u finshed,

in and format buy MOV preferably WMA,

    my comp. dosnt support MOV

  • just simply export as stills and put it together in a software that uses the codecs that works for you.(I know there isn't any .mov-export in pencil yet for windows/linux-users but I'm pretty sure you computer supports mov-files.) or export as a swf-file.

why would you like wma for exporting an animation? :P

  • ooh ty i've just started using pencil and i'm just getting my head round it so ty once again - btw have the same david lanham wallpaper XD

  • well i click export but i doesnt do anithything now what? help pleeze

  • are you using os x, windows or linux??

if windows.. I don't think there will be any window telling the progress.. but just wait for a while.. at least that worked for my friend using windows.

else, if I can't help you, try ask at the Pencil forum.

an other thing.. when saving in pencil, it saves a xml-file and a map whit bitmap-images in. it doesn't work to dubble-click it(the xml-file.. hasn't .xml named after it either) to open in pencil so you have to choose open from within the program.

  • how come it wont let me save it or export it?

  • don't now.

  • nice du! visste inte att du använde pencil.. :D anväder du det mycket?

  • njo ibland använder jag väl det. :)
