Okay i havnt started the video yet, cause i was scared. this isnt really normal, but im 12 years old im 150 pounds and iv tried everythign so thats when i gave up and came here and reviewing these comments..i know iv came to the right spot.
I have battled with chronic illness and have always been thin, but only occasionally exercise. With pain and weakness, I found it hard to motivate myself to do much of anything. A relative bought this as a present for themselves and I figured I'd join in to keep motivated and possibly committed. It doesn't seem like much, but the no breaks + bouncing between workouts KICKS MY ARSE -- but then I feel better and stronger just a few days into it. My new favorite routine.
I have done this video and it is an amazing workout! You will definitely see a difference but you have to eat sensibly or else there's no point working out.
@kapwepwe Well you gotta eat right that's for sure. This is what I do just do level 1 after you get that done just walk outside for half N' hour. You feel good about yourself. It's one of the best feelings when you get there. Do this routine and you will see what your body can look like. Try it and see you will be amazed:D
i like that she doesn't go too fast like I see a lot of people doing. It shows she's really working the muscle by doing each exercise slow and controlled.

what type of replacement can you use instead of the weights? im just renting the dvd and i dont want to go out and buy weights.. is it possible to use a water bottle or anything?
@music4life3690 Hey. I'm starting this dvd on saturday and I use canned food for weights right now, but bottled water is an awesome idea too. I would say start w/ a meduim sized water, not small. Good luck.
I"ve been doing this video, plus shredded with weights video for 2 mos..and I lost 30 lbs already. Of coarse I'm eating healthy and dnt go over the calories i'm suppose to consume. I still need 35lbs more to go..but with Jillian I know I can. She's great.

I've just bought this and i'm studying it now with a large slice of homemade cheesecake. double cream, cream cheese and butter/biscuit base. berry fruits to top it off.
I just ordered this DVD and I'm actually nervous. I'm pretty beginner - totally out of shape, rarely do real fat burning exercise and I know for me this won't be 30 day challenge for me... more like 60. Should I get another workout DVD and work up to this? or just start this and improve as I go along?
If you want to lose weight ladies, you need to get Insanity by Shaun T. If you want to increase your muscle definition and upper body strength, get P90X by Tony Horton. Those 2 are the only programs you will ever need in your home.
Did anyone notice that on level 1 (beginner) at about 16:30 when Jillian drops the weights down on the floor, they sound like hollow plastic? I'm not saying Jillian can't do the real weights, but are those hollow plastic so she looks good on TV with the weights?
I'm on day 3 of the 30 day shred and lost 4 lbs already...it's working so far...I'm all sore, the exercises really work all your muscles...I hope I do get to lose the 20lbs you're supposed to lose in 30 days...
Does Jillian use curse words in this dvd? I want to try her latest dvds, but not if they have curse words in them. I can't stand to hear people cuss and I wouldn't want to workout to an instructor that cusses.
I am on Day 8 of the shred and I love it! I bought this DVD as a supplement to my strength training 3 days a week and cardio 2 days a week. I lost about 10 lbs BEFORE this video and I am really glad I did or else I could see myself getting frustrated and giving up since it is such a tough workout (and i am 40+ lbs overweight). For proof- I can do 22 push-ups now when 8 days ago I could only do 2. Thanks Jillian!
@jwebsterish You would probably like Richard Simmons. ALL of his videos use normal people of all shapes and sizes: skinny, curvy, overweight, etc. I actually prefer Richard to Jillian; he's more positive and inspirational.
does anybody know how much do those dumbbells weight? I tried to do the workout with 3 kilos in each hand, and dropped my ass out of exhaustion. I think I need to put a little less stress on my body =)
How would i get toned abs like that, but not arms as big as that? (too big for my liking) I'm aiming for toned but slim, not ripped. I started Ballet and i want to keep dainty. I'm quite fit and my arms and legs are fine, but i do want a more toned stomach. Would her workouts give me arms like hers? Because i don't like them.
@FreedomGirl87 Whether you do this program or any workout, it boils down to what you eat. You can work out 2~3 hours a day but if you're not eating proper nutrition, you're not going to get ripped. That's the problem with most workouts, people think they can workout and get a ripped/toned body. It'll never happen without proper nutrition. Quality protein, quality carbohydrates and intake of healthy/non-saturated fats is the key keeping the calorie intake under what you actually burn :)
Yeah but who just does a workout like this and then goes out for McDonalds? I think most people know they need to eat right in addition to working out.
@mamitachocolate I think it's the opposite & is the reason why people go through the vicious cycle of seasonal dieting. Some say 60% nutrition, I believe it's 90% or more is the result of what you eat. Workout takes an hour or less for most, the rest of 23 hours you're eating, resting and recovering.
@sidehop Exercise directly affects your metabolism. If you don't exercise your metabolism is slower and you need less calories to maintain bodyweight but people still slam their faces full of crap when they're inactive. It's a mix of both as well as other factors; don't try to put silly percentiles on them just eat well, stay active, sleep to recover and try not to be stressed out a lot.

@nyah8 I know ! I'm pretty fit (I don't any muscles , but I can usaully withstand this stuff . I'm only 5"3 , 110lbs) & When I got up the "Beach twist" (i think that's what it's called) for the 2nd time I was like "Oh HELL NO !" & i pressed pause & sat down . But I think it's because I did Level 1 (for the 1st time ever) in the morning & Level 2 (for the first time ever) in the afternoon . No such a smart thing to do . . .
hey i have a question that i hope someone can answer: on jillian michaels's website, she customizes a workout routine for you based on your body type and eating/exercising habits, but these dvd's are obviously not customized... i'm pear-shaped and want to slim down my lower body, so does that mean i should go with the website's routine instead of buying the dvd?

I got this thing off of Ebay for like 7 bucks. It is a great workout and you do feel it. I'm only on Level 1, but I'm looking forward to Level 2 and I have P90x and I must say that this is a great total body workout every day. P90x focuses on certain muscle groups per day whereas this one does them all daily. I like both programs but you can't beat this one for the price.....P90x is good but not to the tune of 100+ dollars (not including that ridiculous shipping at beachbody).

I just finished day three of Level one... it is seriously intense, and you have to push like MAD if you're not used to working out. I can feel the muscles adapting and my endurance going up already, and this is the first time I've seen anything of Level 2 or 3.. this should be interesting.
she is cooler than I thought she'd be. I actually like this workout. I never think of using weight and have virtually no upper body strength so these are great for me. ouch! But I am seeing results. so it's worth the pain.
After watching Biggest Loser for many seanons I was disappointed in the video sample in that she wasn't screaming and yelling, that she wasn't gettting into the scripted psycho-digging as done on the show. I miss my sailor-mouthed, emotionally charged and loud-ass Jillian!
believe me, with this workout video (been doing it for 3 days now) having small wights, like 5lbs are better to start off with, there are no breaks, it's one after the other, and the more you go into it, the harder it becomes, so starting off small will help alot, or you will just tire yourself out, but in all, i have noticed small changes, and i'm loving it, i'll continue doing this workout to reach my goal
To Deelishussdee, depending on what kind of workout you're doing you shouldn't use heavy weights. If you use heavy weights during these moves it will take away from your form and that's the most important thing for these, unlike with rows and squats and moves like that.
is this workout just geared for women or is it for both men and women? im a guy and my fiance and i are getting our old bodies back and she suggested this but idk if its more of a women's workout or if we can both do it.
i've done the workout a few times, and it's really difficult. it doesn't really focus on any specific areas that women want to tone, like buns, waist, etc. it gets everything in there! i'm sure you can do it, too. you would probably just need to use heavier weights.
hey man, I am a guy and I use this workout system. As you said it does focus more on women than men so at some parts of the video, I sub in my own thing such as an extra set of bicep curls or chest fly. Level 1 of the video did not seem that intense for me so I just did it for a few days as a warm up then went to level 2. I find it works quite well. I am new to this system and I have already noticed an increase in endurance. Good luck!
no, there's plenty of cardio involved in this video, there's strength, cardio....always forget the third one lol, but yeah, there's no need to include cardio since this video has a good amount of it.

I have this. I started today, so 1/10 days completed for level 1. Can't wait until the 30 days are done and see what comes out of it. I am 139lbs, and about 5'10. I am losing my little extra belly, hope fully making it flat and gain some abs :P Hopefully, I'm going to keep on continuing this pattern so I never go back to my old self.

@Shadez54 When I started I was like... 140 at 5'8 and after doing this workout I got down to 133 it's a great workout! Just keep up with it everyday and you'll see results in a week, really.

So you have to do this everyday? I got it online and it doesn't come with a workout plan so now I have 3 levels, only the workout videos. Do you do level one for ten days then level two for ten days and so on? Or are there actually supposed to be 30 different workouts - one for each day? Thank you so much for answering!!
You do it based on your own pace. I tried to level it out and do each workout every ten days like you were doing and that seemed to work best for me! But you just do each level until you feel like you're ready to move on. :) There are only 3 workout steps so don't worry, you got what you were supposed to!
just did this workout 4 the first time yesterday. She does a gr8 job of explaining how to do the exercises properly so thta u dont injure urself..definitely worth it :)
i went on the exercise tv store and you can buy it there..or buy the download for your computer. i did that because i don't have a dvd layer haha. but if you do it like that each workout is 4.99$ so i bought the first one and when i can advance for the next i will buy the next haha
It's an epic fail why? Because you didn't do it? You lost weight how you wanted so let other people do it the way they want. I guarantee you someone who ate right and exercised is going to keep the weight off a lot longer than someone who exercised and stil ate crap everyday. So really, you're the epic fail lol
have done that too. But lets face it not everyone can do cross fit. Everyone can do this one. You have to look at it from the average indvidual perspective. I am a trainer. I know my stuff. This works. Just because you do crossfit doesn't mean you can judge it and say it doesn't work, look at all the other comments. These are people who need exactly what she has to offer.
I'm addicted to this video! It murders me but is so effective! Even tho it's only 20 minutes I'm pouring sweat by the end! Level 3 all the way! (I still can't kick all the way up in the rock star jumps but that's a goal to work on for me!)

Love it! Love it! I am on week two of using this DVD and can already feel my muscles taking shape. You have to make the decision to stick with it and push yourself for it to work, pretty much self motivate, if you can't do that find a friend that can do it with you. All in all it will deliver!
did anyone lose actual weight from this video?? how fast do you see results? i really am having a hard time sticking to something and losing weight and i really need to lose weight and make it show like fast.. so does this vid do that?
You can find out all the answers for your questions looking up the DVD reviews on Amazon. That's what I did. And, as Jillian said, they will show "fast" if you work for it. But as any person should know about exercising or setting any goal for that matter, you've gotta be realistic about what "fast" means.

@FreedomGirl87 Whether you do this program or any workout, it boils down to what you eat. You can work out 2~3 hours a day but if you're not eating proper nutrition, you're not going to get ripped. That's the problem with most workouts, people think they can workout and get a ripped/toned body. It'll never happen without proper nutrition. Quality protein, quality carbohydrates and intake of healthy/non-saturated fats is the key keeping the calorie intake under what you actually burn :)

@mamitachocolate I think it's the opposite & is the reason why people go through the vicious cycle of seasonal dieting. Some say 60% nutrition, I believe it's 90% or more is the result of what you eat. Workout takes an hour or less for most, the rest of 23 hours you're eating, resting and recovering.

@sidehop Exercise directly affects your metabolism. If you don't exercise your metabolism is slower and you need less calories to maintain bodyweight but people still slam their faces full of crap when they're inactive. It's a mix of both as well as other factors; don't try to put silly percentiles on them just eat well, stay active, sleep to recover and try not to be stressed out a lot.

@nyah8 I know ! I'm pretty fit (I don't any muscles , but I can usaully withstand this stuff . I'm only 5"3 , 110lbs) & When I got up the "Beach twist" (i think that's what it's called) for the 2nd time I was like "Oh HELL NO !" & i pressed pause & sat down . But I think it's because I did Level 1 (for the 1st time ever) in the morning & Level 2 (for the first time ever) in the afternoon . No such a smart thing to do . . .

hey i have a question that i hope someone can answer: on jillian michaels's website, she customizes a workout routine for you based on your body type and eating/exercising habits, but these dvd's are obviously not customized... i'm pear-shaped and want to slim down my lower body, so does that mean i should go with the website's routine instead of buying the dvd?

I got this thing off of Ebay for like 7 bucks. It is a great workout and you do feel it. I'm only on Level 1, but I'm looking forward to Level 2 and I have P90x and I must say that this is a great total body workout every day. P90x focuses on certain muscle groups per day whereas this one does them all daily. I like both programs but you can't beat this one for the price.....P90x is good but not to the tune of 100+ dollars (not including that ridiculous shipping at beachbody).

I just finished day three of Level one... it is seriously intense, and you have to push like MAD if you're not used to working out. I can feel the muscles adapting and my endurance going up already, and this is the first time I've seen anything of Level 2 or 3.. this should be interesting.

she is cooler than I thought she'd be. I actually like this workout. I never think of using weight and have virtually no upper body strength so these are great for me. ouch! But I am seeing results. so it's worth the pain.

believe me, with this workout video (been doing it for 3 days now) having small wights, like 5lbs are better to start off with, there are no breaks, it's one after the other, and the more you go into it, the harder it becomes, so starting off small will help alot, or you will just tire yourself out, but in all, i have noticed small changes, and i'm loving it, i'll continue doing this workout to reach my goal

To Deelishussdee, depending on what kind of workout you're doing you shouldn't use heavy weights. If you use heavy weights during these moves it will take away from your form and that's the most important thing for these, unlike with rows and squats and moves like that.

i've done the workout a few times, and it's really difficult. it doesn't really focus on any specific areas that women want to tone, like buns, waist, etc. it gets everything in there! i'm sure you can do it, too. you would probably just need to use heavier weights.

hey man, I am a guy and I use this workout system. As you said it does focus more on women than men so at some parts of the video, I sub in my own thing such as an extra set of bicep curls or chest fly. Level 1 of the video did not seem that intense for me so I just did it for a few days as a warm up then went to level 2. I find it works quite well. I am new to this system and I have already noticed an increase in endurance. Good luck!

no, there's plenty of cardio involved in this video, there's strength, cardio....always forget the third one lol, but yeah, there's no need to include cardio since this video has a good amount of it.

I have this. I started today, so 1/10 days completed for level 1. Can't wait until the 30 days are done and see what comes out of it. I am 139lbs, and about 5'10. I am losing my little extra belly, hope fully making it flat and gain some abs :P Hopefully, I'm going to keep on continuing this pattern so I never go back to my old self.

So you have to do this everyday? I got it online and it doesn't come with a workout plan so now I have 3 levels, only the workout videos. Do you do level one for ten days then level two for ten days and so on? Or are there actually supposed to be 30 different workouts - one for each day? Thank you so much for answering!!

You do it based on your own pace. I tried to level it out and do each workout every ten days like you were doing and that seemed to work best for me! But you just do each level until you feel like you're ready to move on. :) There are only 3 workout steps so don't worry, you got what you were supposed to!

Not at all...you'll keep getting results as long as you challenge yourself with either
-more reps
-heavier weights
-shorter rest periods
-progression of difficulty (i.e. going from squats to lunges vs just always doing squats)

have done that too. But lets face it not everyone can do cross fit. Everyone can do this one. You have to look at it from the average indvidual perspective. I am a trainer. I know my stuff. This works. Just because you do crossfit doesn't mean you can judge it and say it doesn't work, look at all the other comments. These are people who need exactly what she has to offer.

I'm addicted to this video! It murders me but is so effective! Even tho it's only 20 minutes I'm pouring sweat by the end! Level 3 all the way! (I still can't kick all the way up in the rock star jumps but that's a goal to work on for me!)

Love it! Love it! I am on week two of using this DVD and can already feel my muscles taking shape. You have to make the decision to stick with it and push yourself for it to work, pretty much self motivate, if you can't do that find a friend that can do it with you. All in all it will deliver!

You can find out all the answers for your questions looking up the DVD reviews on Amazon. That's what I did. And, as Jillian said, they will show "fast" if you work for it. But as any person should know about exercising or setting any goal for that matter, you've gotta be realistic about what "fast" means.
