  • this is how i fixed my rrod: [1 opened xbox] [2 stuck rolled paper in fans, overheating xbox 3red->2red] [3 unplugged power cord while on 2red] [4 plugged usb laptop cooling fans, removed paper] [5 booted xbox, tada works]

left halo 3 running for awhile, turned xbox off, then turned it on, it works; i'll post again if it still works in a month or so when i find my controller. its ugly and ghetto, but it works and didnt have to drill shit and screw things; so if you're lazy, try my method.

  • @crazylina198 No... If it was death then it wouldn't have came back on. 4 is death. Gotten it before.

  • Three lights is loose av cord, two is temperture, four is death. One has something to do with the game I think. Idk.

  • @runescapesidemona Noooo three lights is RROD and 4 is the cords.

  • just performed this fix. worked even before I overheated the motherboard. for anyone buying these parts in american measures, you need #10 nylon washers (16), #8 steel washers, and 10-32X3/4 flat slotted screws

    Thanks again

  • you said I need 8 nylon washers so I drove all the way to Lowes to get them but I counted you using 16... 8 on top of the motherboard and 8 under... Looks like I better follow another vid..discrepancies in this one..

    CAREFUL PEOPLE!!

  • NEW FIX! Buy a PS3 :)

  • removing the X clamp is like de-flowering your xbox

  • how to fix the RROD...

    GET A NEW 360 SLIM

  • @campaingboy73 the rrod is still there microsoft just removed the red lights just trying to fool people its the same issue i say just jet a ps3 and before you call me a fan boy i have a xbox and ps3 ps3 is more reliable and it is quieter

  • The Problem That i can send it to microsoft for a free one but i am in middle east shame :( because it's not supported :'( i will try to get the stuff you told us to get then i will try to do it by my own and good video mate :D xD

  • Thumbs up of you hit mute as soon as the music kicked in..

  • @Jburdette86 i did not hit mute

  • @Jburdette86 It's great music, dont bitch about it.

  • @Jburdette86 Seriously? The song is pretty awesome. You missed a gem.

  • You don't need to use your finger to spread it, the heatsink pressing down will distribute it.

  • @mustangmikeca you can also get kits that dont require drilling :)

  • you should never use your finger to spread thermal paste as you skincells will stop it from working properly use a piece of card or a old credit card

  • I did exactly what you said, but i can't overheat it. No matter how long i left it runing and tried with hairdryer, still the same 3 red bars are lighting. Do you have any suggestion?

Btw I have the silver drive-tray and the GPU heatfan looks different from yours.

  • the music is perfect with the video xD

  • With no handlebars........

  • I did this fix and after a couple of months it's back to RROD. I don't think this is permanent.

  • I Think Xbox360 was meant to have RROD because When they made the first Xbox360 I guess Mircosoft Knew that The ps3 was Coming out so Decided To make The RROD And Mircosoft Acted like Nothing was Wrong With There System THEN!!! THEY Made A Fixed Version of the 360!!! Slim I ALREADY KNOW!!! THE MAIN STORY IS THEY KNEW THE PS3 WAS GOING TO OUTSELL THEM!!!!

  • I have error 0022 will this fix solve that problem as well?

  • i did this fix on my xbox360, but with putting the x-clamps back on instead of the screws. when i turn it on it gives RROD, when i leave it on for about 15min, turn it off and turn it on again it works fine. anyone got an idea what the problem might be? i did the fix before on another xbox and that one works fine.

  • dude i did wat u did just that i didnt punch holes i put back the xclamps then re assembeld it worked for 2 days then 3 rrod came back wat should i do?

  • Comment removed

  • @timhurst72 please answer me did it work permenant or did it give u the rrod cam back after a couple of hours

  • @thevidgamer9 Came back. Bought the screws and washers working again. Buy 16 nylon washers though. Thanks for the tutorial bro now I can get my MW3 on come Tuesday morning.

  • Before trying this you should replace your power block if your power block light is red orange or not lit when you turn it on than replace it if its green thats the signal to go ahead and do this :D

  • i did everythin i was told to by the video but at the end its still bringing me rrod when i turn it on it just flashs 2 lights first the fan is working butg then the fan stops WHAT SHOULD I DO PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • good song

  • i bought that xbox 360 off of xbox 360,i swear to god

  • great song great tutorial 5 stars all around

  • I tried this and it worked for a week, then I got the rings back, I think it was just me though. I had the thought that since it's the design of the x-clamps why not bend them to flatten them out, so I did that and put them back on. I did put the washers back on the inside of the board too. I didn't have to overheat because after I flattened the x-clamps, put everything back together and powered it on it came on green, it's been running fine for 3 months.

  • this is why i use computer or ps3 :)

  • @blissa1 it happens to ps3 sorta well wen the motherboard stops workin i have a friend the idiot turned of the ps3 on purpose and jamed the ps3 this dosent happen to xbox

  • How the hell did you get 3 hands?

  • microsoft ant that dum if this relly worked then they wood have dun this in the fist place but it is relly just the shity thermal past and dust that cuse the rrod not the xclamp in fact the xclamp is a very very good piece of design

  • and microsoft couldn't have done this for us to begin with...

  • @HunterLeePatterson This is not a Permanent RROD Repair Guide for the Xbox 360 this guide will actually permanently DAMAGE your Xbox 360 and remove any chance at a lasting repair using the proper equipment and send your Xbox to a very very early grave 100% EVERY TIME! how am I My name is Daniel and I have actual extensive electronic background in electronic and show you the proof on my channel come learn the truth!

  • @HGCGamersClub Why is it not a good repair?

  • @coopzbmx You should go to my channel and watch the first 3 video however there is no difference between rapping your Xbox in a towel and unplugging the fan, you will cause 60 times more damage to the solder below the chips than you had before you started and this will only work (IF) you have a cracked solder ball below your GPU or CPU. If it was not the solder it will be after following there guide.

  • @coopzbmx PS heat guns have a very Hi Kill rate and can cause serious damage to other nearby chips and components! I show you on my channel exactly why you should not use their bolts!! Do not fall victim to this video or you will 100% be buying a new Xbox very very soon.

  • I made everything as you did ...

my power brick light turns to green as i turn on my xbox

but my xbox still have those damn 3 red lights ...

    my error is 0102

    PLEASE I NEED HELP !

  • @nicolaiaquilina you have to over heat it now by stoping the fans

  • @KIRI3IW yes I did this too..

over and over but still nothing..

    now I have the 0110 error e20

it can be the rem chips or the GPU/CPU that need to be reboiled

my problem is I don't know how and which is the safe way

  • @nicolaiaquilina This is not a Permanent RROD Repair Guide for the Xbox 360 this guide will actually permanently DAMAGE your Xbox 360 and remove any chance at a lasting repair using the proper equipment and send your Xbox to a very very early grave 100% EVERY TIME! how am I My name is Daniel and I have actual extensive electronic background in electronic and show you the proof on my channel come learn the truth!

  • did this and got rrod 2 weeks after

  • I had the bad rrod code cannot remember which it was but I used the heat gun trick and re did the thermal paste and screws, which then changed the code to 0020. But I cannot get this working at all. I do not have the screws through the metal though, so should I bother getting new screws and try through the metal box to shape the board perfectly? will this make the xbox work?

  • @0500765, yes, get the 16mm screws and go through the case too! Make sure the washers under the heatsink are exactly the same height as the OEM ones ( the ones you remove from the heatink bottoms).

  • This worked for me on my 2nd attempt. I had 3 red lights on my 12/2007 xbox. Here is what I changed/ did differently. 1. Used a razor blade to scrape a very thin consistant coat of Arctic Silver 5 from Radio Shack ($10.95). 2. The nylon washer and steel washer under the heatsinks were too thick, only used the nylon one. The part I removed under heat sinc measures 2mm. The nylon washer needs to match this (nut removed from heatsink). The XBOX then fired up and ran well. More as I post.

  • @reedrobb, Still running 1-19-12. Just cracked open a buddies XBOX to do it on his! Thanks a million! Where so I send the check?

  • How is the song called?

  • i also had the problem that it started with 2 red lights... i just removed the last STEEL rings that are directly under the heatsyncs... it workes now :) because they had no contact to the chips' surface!

  • hey is this method works with jasper(s)?

  • You can also use 70 percent Rubbing Alcohol to clean off the paste.

  • @vlamnire Your finger may also get oil into the thermal paste and you do not want to do that. If you really want to do it with your finger make sure you wash your hands first. Sometimes I use a plastic bag on my finger or even a latex glove will work.

  • When I turned my Xbox it flashes the four green lights clockwise but overheats within 30 seconds, you say to leave it on for 10 minutes... do I leave the two halves flashing red for 10 minutes or did I do something wrong?

  • @kurtisvandieen nevermind, figured it out.

  • @kurtisvandieen atleast one of your heat sinks isnt one properly. isnt making enough contact, or no contact at all to your gpu, or cpu chip.

  • @Gamble2185 Yea I figured it out shortly afterwards..that was indeed the problem, some screws were too loose but thanks for the help anyway!

  • after doing this repair my xbox is showing first wo halves red. it wont RROD?//

  • @ThaReal6ix9ine try doing the step again where you leave it on for about 10 mins with the fan only covering the cpu. Mine didn't start up at first either with 2 red rings. I had to do it a couple more times with a break in between and then it started up.

  • it's not working right now.

  • thnx just fixed my 360 and its working

  • wow, i did this, the penny trick and finally the towel trick on my RROD xbox360. after many hours of cursing and frustration it actually is working now. thanks for the help!!!

  • umm i have 0020 and i did all of this about 5 times and i used AS5 and it still has RROD. i had mine working for like 5 min and now its stuck on rrod. any other solutions? i have already done the heat gunning to it

  • One of the best RRoD fix videos I have seen.

Good quality, nicely explained, and nice music too.

  • wow... nice music lol

  • I followed your tutorial on my xbox that got red rings the other day. Had never tried fixing a rrod before and my xbox is working now. Thanks a lot for the video.

By the way, at the beginning of the video you say we need 8 nylon washers but you use a total of 16.

  • @chariquacko I was just thinking the same thing about the Nylon washers LOL. My fix is in progress awesome video

  • i put the washer in, have a modded heatsink, and modded fans but as soon as i turn the console on ( not even a second later) the fans stop and rrod comes up

  • @Bi0sh0ckl3loodied You probably have the bolts too tight on the cpu

  • HOLES...not wholes..idiot.

  • I also have question.............After having RROD and X BOX is still functioning but fans don't work, how do i fix the fans??

  • i got two questions... is it necessary to use the 5mm screws??? and can we use any heat paste... plz reply me.. wana fix my 360... :(

    thx...

  • 6 years of rrod and rrod complaints from 360 consumers and microsoft still hasn't done anything about rrod, milking you dry on an unprecedented scale?

  • dfg

  • dont use the xbox to resolder the solder balls under the gpu take it to a professional this will make your xbox even less of a chance to get fully repaired.

  • I get two red lights at the end to heat up the box!!! what did I do wrong?

  • Why do all this crap? buy the beast instead PS3

  • @Zhaba80 xbox have halo, gears of war wich is POPULAR.ps3 have metal gear solid 4 (STUPID)

  • @SuperKenkashi damn str8

  • @Zhaba80 Yeah, buy PS3 So when i do i'll eventually get a YLOD And it will take like 2 hours to fix. NO THANKS

  • thank god i have the new xbox

  • @MrNomSauce same here bro

  • im slow

  • im so confused you used 1 steel and 1 nylon for each spot unless im god awfully retarded why do you need 32? with what you did you only need 16 or did you put two under neath as well?

  • just get the new xbox

  • "I can fix my xbox with a screwdriver..a screwdriver..a screwdriver."

  • good guide, easy to follow. about to go pick up my screws and washers. fingers crossed this works!

  • this aint permanent it lasts about 2 months

  • Does it fix it permanitley?!?!

  • did You ever heard about reballing? Is Your xbox still working?? i guess NOT

  • x clamp fix fucking doesnt work

  • This might work for a while but its bound to come back at some point. It got rrod because of heat, if nothing is done about the heat the rrod will return at some point.....

  • i dont use t8 torx b/c i stripped 3 tips using it so t9 torx is a lot better to use its $1.42 at Menards so i use t10/t9 screw drivers but good job on the guide it was helpfull

  • alright...so how can i reheat it up after the repair if its not red ringing because i did the towell trick last night and it hasnt messed up again yet

  • well i can ride my bike really really fast

  • ahh it's 16 nylon washers, 8 for under the Motherboard and 8 for on top accourding to the video. I left the washers out on the top, you just have to make sure you don't tighten the screws too much.

  • Spent all day on this, but it's now in the cooling phase.

My problem was the new screws were on TOO TIGHT.

I added weak pressure with my hands until they started to get snug and that was it.

Then the heat sinks started to heat up. Before they didn't.

Try that if it's not working for you.

3 red lights, turned to 2. then I turned off, waiting now to cool.

Hope it works in 20 minutes!

  • @shivercanada did the rrod fix work for you?

  • Comment removed

  • Thumbs up if the best way to fix rrod is to buy a 360 slim

  • Followed Your Guide And Magic Ittttsssssssssss AALLIIVVEE............Thanks Man

  • @420killas420 not for long

  • Followed this video and also did the penny-trick (but with swedish 50-öringar) and the xbox works again! :D

  • when removing the x clamps a small pair of needle nose pliers works much easier.

  • are the fans supposed to be on when you have rrod?

  • My WII RRODS too LFMAO xD

  • @guinasaw huuhuhu

  • this song is fucking awesome

  • I did this to my system and it work for 1 week. now I send my system to website they fixt it for me and been working for 4 months now. 1repairstop com.

  • i did all of this but now the heat sinks dont heat and fan does not spin when plugged in. Am i f***ed?

  • that song sucks

  • how do you remove the plastic shell

  • @AmericanDeathMachine His has 2 X clamps. Every Xbox has 2. A "heat "dissipator" would be the heat sinks.

  • im so lucky mine will never do that and heres why i cooled it when i got it with 2 fans and i never got the (RROD)

  • it works

  • nice! you pretty much copied my first xclamp vid!

  • @RobbieHct This video was before yours you idiot.

  • @EliteBoner check again. this vid was uploaded in October, 2008. my first x-clamp vid (the one this one pretty much copied) was uploaded in September of 2008...1 month earlier.

who's the idiot? ya dumb fukkk

  • shitty music selection

  • Hey. EASY FIX I just got RROD. Screen went black, 3 segments went red.

All i did was take plug from the power pack. pressed open on the disc tray and its working again.

  • fake not working

  • @zheejmik Watch my videos, fix it for real, not just add paste.

  • Do not use your finger to spread the paste, there are oils in your skin. Use something like a credit card, which is semi flexible and has a straight edge.

  • Shit! My Xbox 360 got the RROD 5 months ago. I threw that Xbox 360 out my 3-story high building, into the dumpster. I switched to PS3, and it still amazes me! Microsoft, just stick with software, PLEASE!

  • Thanks!

  • I don't care about self repairing my 3 broken 360's in the past two years... just tell me the name of the song.

  • @samuricex The song is called Handlebars by Flobots.

  • Comment removed

  • thanks man :D its working ;:D

  • The DVD Drive is blocking all airflow to the GPU heatsink which causes the solder under the GPU to melt. Put the DVD Drive on top of the console or behind the console with 20 inch xbox360 dvd drive cables. Cables are available-go to google and type in 'airflow cables". With the DVD Drive out of the way put a bigger heatsink on the GPU (buy the xbox360 2nd generation CPU and put it on the GPU). The CPU never overheats because the heatsink is 4X bigger that the GPU heatsink and it has airflow

  • @xbox360airflow Totally correct, or replace the gpu heatsink, watch my videos. I replaced it and the problem has left completely. If you want it permanently fixed, you must do it.

  • C-My-Channel-For-Free-Microsoft-Points

  • you know something? if bill gates had a nickel every time an xbox 360 got RROD..... oh wait, he does.

  • Overused song is overused.

  • How did you geniuses pass school with that maths? 8 nylon washers on top and 8 underneath equals 16! not 8 as in the part list section! :(

  • thumbs up if you put this on just for the song

  • cool song

  • this isn't a "permanent" fix. only way to permanently fix this problem is to change the lead free bga solder balls to lead composition ones. in any case, now you know a little about electrical engineering! good for you. :3

  • There are a few things he is doing WAY wrong. ive never actually done this repair,BUT ive done A LOT of work with computers. you must use isopropyl alcohol to clean off old thermal paste with a lint free cloth, you do not touch the chips because the oil from your fingers will effect heat transfer, and when you apply thermal paste you put a VERY thin coat on and spread with a card or something similar NOT your fingers because of the oily residue.

  • FUCK please help i get half red right when i turn it on and the fan freaks out and stops. When i only have to power cable and not the av cable in it starts with 4 red rings and then goes to the half

  • this will work, but not for that long because of how he has dont it.. when you are re-assembling the 360, and the fan over the CPU heatsync, turn on the system (this will take longer then 10 mins alone). wait until your system goes from 3 red lights (or 1 for e74, w.e) to 2 red lights. then AS SOON AS IT GOES TO 2 RED LIGHTS, THEN COUNT 10 MINS (I ONLY DO 7-8 MINS AT MOST) BUT YOU MUST LEAVE IT FOR AT LEASE 7 MINS, OR THE RROD WILL RETURN.

  • you lied they are 16 nylone washers

  • This is great. I recommend this to anyone

  • Update. After 2 months it no longer works. Thanks for prolonging the life of my 360, it was still worth it'!

  • mine is fucked and i dont have 3 hands and this takes 2 much time

  • Nice,dude!!!

  • Worked for me. Let's see how long it will last. Great band aid.

  • wow you have 3 hands

  • Almost there actually. If you put the board in and bolt it down, the board wont flex. You also forgot to add some lead free, no clean flux. Then heat with a heat gun with the fan on the lowest setting. This won't hurt your CPU or GPU like running the xbox while overheating it. BUT IT IS STILL ROHS AND WILL BREAK AGAIN EVEN IF THAT IS 3 YEARS FROM NOW!!

  • I don't understand... why use a 5mm screw if you're just gonna have to then use a drill make the hole in the case bigger?? Why not use smaller screws that fit?

  • @laurenmarieeee Because both heatsinks are already prethreaded for an M5 screw.

  • whats the name of the song?

  • @oriondynasty Handlebars by Flobots

  • m jtag has 3 red lights but there so code or anything coming up on the tv, eg e74, e73 etc. Wat does this mean or wats the problem, Plz help

  • ROFL A HAIRDRYER? , DONT DO THAT

  • do you guys understand Microsoft had to be greedy?? Europe has laws against Lead based sauder, so microsoft had to sauder all of the joints with a non-lead based sauder. This sauder is less sturdy then our 60/40 sauder. Fuck Europe.

  • @makemehard2 does that make you unhard?

  • @makemehard2 there are many devices out that are manufactured with non-lead bases sauder. You GPU, mainboard, PS3 etc.. So what does that all mean ?? -> M$ is greedy they saved a bunch off money in the engineering & design of the xbox

  • THIS IS NOT PERMANENT. USE THE HYBRID UNICLAMP FIX. ITS MORE COMPLICATED(just a little), BUT IT IS A TRUE LONG TERM FIX. YOU'LL BE LUCKY TO GET THREE MONTHSOUT OF THIS.
