  • Proper Bluesman walking the walk and talking the talk .

  • Hes homeless, but he sure aint lifeless

  • with all that time on his hands he should practice more

  • Hi Guys!

I am located in Austin TX and I'm working on a new non-profit called

    Clothes For The Homeless.

You can learn more at: clothesforthehomeless(dot)org

I am looking for interested individuals and businesses who would like to donate and participate!

  • To the person who says "you don't become homeless because you have to but because you want to" has either been to sheltered from the real world or lives in

one of their own. Look around around ya pal and get a grip.

    Swingcat1

  • To the person who says "you don't become homeless because you have to but because you want to" has either been to sheltered from the real world or lives in

one of their own. Look around around ya pal and get a grip.

  • Better than Bieber!

  • Music is always by his side

  • street blues = the real blues !

  • He says he wrote 4 books and 6 songs in prison, if that's the case what is he doing living on the street when he could be making money from books and songs.

If you're going to end up living on the street you can't blame having had to spend so many years of prison for it. No one forces you to commit the crime.

  • @asoka2000 one thing you dont understand alot of times when you been to prison alot of places wont hire you if you got felonys, and you dont know the mans situation, damn shame the clinton administration when he was in office signed a bill where you cant get a free college education in prison anymore,i think they should be allowed to get it,and vocational training to.and one other thing you dont know what life has in store for you around the corner.

  • @JohnShaft666 why should criminals get a free education when people who have not done anything wrong have to pay?

  • @rawshitschill most of them did not have and educations when they went in,if you give them education then maybe there is a possibility that they wont reoffend when they get released, but i can see your point as well.

  • As far as I'm concerned having been in prison for stealing, and being an alcoholic is no excuse for being homeless and asking for money. People don't become homeless because they have to, they become homeless because they choose to. Anyone who wants to get off alcohol or drugs can so they don't need to be homeless, begging for money or steal.

If a person has been on the street for so many years like this guy claims that's pathetic, by now if he can't find a job then he's fucked up.

  • You know, I really admire this guy. He's not the best guitar player, or the best harmonica player, or the best singer. But he's doing what he loves: Playing music. He's really quite brave to have given up all his belongings and set out on the road. And to have been given 15 years for stealing a $150 guitar, to have not had a home or family, to have "dropped out of society" for 30 years, and to still have a sense of humor and optimism; That's beautiful. I hope I turn out half as good as this guy.

  • Ok where da hell is parts 2 -3 ,and 4 ???????????? this was getting good then damn :(

  • Should have given you life and shipped you to Siberia you friggen wino.

  • if owner throw rock at dog dog will leave owner and prefer to be a stray!!! -__-

  • Gffguuhfdrruu

  • All he did was break into a business and steal some shit. Because of people like "Miles Ray" we all have to live in fear of thieves and cowards. We have lock our windows, bolt our doors and worry when we have to leave our property unguarded. I've been ripped off. I've had poor misunderstood victims like "Miles Ray" who have broken into my house and car and taken my shit. Now I live in constant fear of it happening again. I worry about my wife home alone. Thieves should hang, not sit and whine.

  • if he was sober i reckon he'd pull off the guitar

  • hes more happy than you

  • j adore....un artiste a part entière;-)

  • my buddy made 900.bucks in 1 hour.flying a sign outside of wal-mart.

  • to the people who hear a free loader or even a guy wanting a "better" life, i don't think you are listening. the man chose his lifestyle, because he was sick of society. if you really look at it with some thought you will see he's a richer man than most. he has everything he needs in knowing how to survive on his own. what is any material things really worth in the end?...................................nothing.

  • lol hes drinking an icehouse

  • He Needs to buy a new guitar...lol

  • great song have a tennants on me!!

  • i will let him live with me and bang my mom.

  • THis guy is not the truth desperate homeless. He is homeless by choice with no children. The saddest is the homeless families. Oh God, that is the truly sad.

  • FUCK the state of texas

  • If I said this is what I want to be when I grow up people wouldn't understand.

  • I'll Pray for Miles!!

  • I'd like to buy this guy a big steak and have a beer with him. Non-alcoholic of course!

  • AMEN TO THAT!!

  • its because ur church is the curch of the devil

  • ill say be strong and play more music!!!

  • hah nice classic blues. sounds like he's had quite a life traveling the U.S.

  • hahahahahaha

  • Looks so real, doesn't seems he is an actor.

    :D

  • Pampa. Been there. It's a small, shitty town with like nothing going on. He should return, and when he does, he'll probably find his old house all boarded up with no one to really give a shit if he stayed there or not.

  • someone please teach him how to play a guitar.

  • texas has a good way of dealing with criminals

  • Reminds me of the older version of Brother Jesco White..

  • u can have SO much fun ... with me 8

  • his face tells a 1000 storys so unlike the fools i have met so far on you tube this video is the best and i love you so much for posting if only some people on youtube could get their out ot their own assholes for a day

  • Thank you so much for this.

  • that homeless guy is so cool i would like to meet him

  • in UK that type of crimes would be a pity crime and will let you home and do maybe 20-30 hrs community service, sorry man to hear that you did 15 yrs for shit like that, not wonder the country is full of homeless.

  • Funny, then, that the poverty rate in the UK is higher than in the US - the same goes for places like Denmark. I'm not saying poverty and homelessness in America is not a problem, but you should tell the truth (or at least make an effort to do so) when commenting on it.

  • I agree. I always thought that Europe didn't have these issues, but when I went there, I was shocked at the homelessness and poverty...the problem is that many Europeans don't see people of color as "people" . So when a poor black man would walk by, they would just say that he was an immigrant....He's NOT an immigrant, he's a human being.

  • @Travieso78702 A black man in Europe is not an immigrant? You obviously spent way too much time in the coffee shops. Unlike Americans we Europeans have a national identity as a people. That doesn't mean we don't see other people as people. We just don't see them as our people. See the difference? And a welfare state simply cannot have more of an issue with poverty and homelessness than a non-welfare state. That's a nothing but an incomputable right wing propaganda lie.

  • @Dovenpeis Well, I'm not a repuke nor a libertarian. I'm just stating a fact that paris was burning because of the disenfranchisement of a huge portion of France's working citizens who got working "papiers" but little chance of gaining citizenship. Thus, Frence like many European countries has basically created a permenant underclass that has filled the suburbs of PAris and Lyons..

  • @Travieso78702 I couldn't agree more with you that France and all the other Western-European countries made a serious mistake by opening up for mass immigration from third world countries, and that we are paying the price for our mistake now, big time. But the question is what do you do when your multiculturalist ideology crash and burn? Do you try redoing the landscape when it doesn't fit your ideological map? You do, don't you?

  • @Dovenpeis THe biggest mistake Europe made wasn't any immigration policy but 500 years of coloialism and racism. Devonpeis. Payback is a -----.....Ciao. I'm not really interested in discussing this further with you.

  • Comment removed

  • @Travieso78702 So you finally revealed yourself as a Euro-hater. Well, I kind of got that from the start. People like you like to present yourself as anti-racist, but that really is just a code word for anti-white.

  • @Dovenpeis And Devon, your little quote "We just don't see them as our people." Speaks volumes.... So only white Europeans are your people..... I am so lucky to come from a family of native-americans, hispanics, anglos, french, Jews, and Koreans, spanish.....Pretty much everyone is my people.....It's called the human race.

  • @Travieso78702 I think you are being ridiculous for criticizing European peoples for not seeing the whole world as their people. That is a rejection of the anthropological reality all together. And for the record Europeans are white by definition. Defining an African in Europe as a European is a ridiculous notion that neither Africans nor Europeans share. And white is actually a meaningless word in a European context. For instance I don't see the French as my people just because they are white.

  • @ChallengeDK Denmark has a higher poverty rate than the US? Where did you get that statistic from? The local libertarian propaganda machine? I know for a fact that in Denmark this guy would have had access to both an apartment, health care and a welfare check of quiet a bit more than he gets from begging in the streets of America. Now you tell me exactly how a welfare state like Denmark can have more of an issue with poverty than a non-welfare state like the US? It simply does not compute!

  • @Dovenpeis Having access to free public housing does not make one less poor. You'd be surprised that the homelessness rate in Denmark is as high as in the US (it is estimated, as none of the two countries does official countings).

BTW. almost everyone in Denmark is on welfare. As soon as you have kids you're entitled to monthly welfare checks.

BTW. this is not an endorsement of that system. It's downright disgusting.

  • @ChallengeDK Of course having access to public housing, health care and a welfare check makes you less poor than having to live on the streets with nothing but private charity. Which planet do you come from? Only a libertarian from outer space could come up with such a ludicrous idea. Just as ludicrous as the idea that virtually every Dane lives on welfare, but then again it shows how detached from reality libertarians are. And what is downright disgusting is purposefully letting people suffer.

  • @Dovenpeis To me prosperity is being able to take care of yourself. No amount of public housing is ever going to change that. Most people is public housing aren't happy with their situation. They don't want to live the life that they're living. They're poor, no matter how you cut it.

  • @ChallengeDK You are simply not as poor with access to public housing, health care and welfare checks as living on the streets with private charity as your only relief. In the real world that is, but your problem is obviously that you are out of touch with real life. Which is further emphasised by your ludicrous notion of taking care of oneself in a society with division of labour. BTW, it seems to me that Denmark has a great welfare state and is much closer than the US of being a fair society.

  • @Dovenpeis What does it help when the estimated homelessness rate is just as high in Denmark as in the US? Can you please explain to me the ludicrousness of my statement? I think it's a perfectly fair assumption given the society we are presented with, namely a capitalist one that builds upon labor as part its core

Fair? We're broke! You socialists have no idea of managing your failed ideologies! Even the wealthiest person in the country is receiving public welfare. That, my friend, is ludicrous

  • The ludicrousness of your statement is its untruthfulness. I know being an extraterrestrial libertarian makes it difficult to cope with real life here on earth, but there is actually a reason why tent cities is a wide spread phenomenon in the US while they don't even exist in Denmark. I'll give you a hint; it's not the climate difference. And not understanding why taking care of oneself is a ludicrous notion in a society with division of labour I will ascribe to the extraterrestrial part too.

  • @Dovenpeis The reason why tent cities don't exist in Denmark is due to the small amount of homeless people (in absolute terms). The need for shelter is easily covered by the few shelters around Copenhagen, for instance. The amount of shelters per city is not linear in proportion with the population.

  • @ChallengeDK Oh well, the earthly conclusion would have been that the few shelters around Copenhagen are enough to prevent tent cities because there simply aren't that many homeless people in Denmark at all (in relative terms to the US). But sure, I know extraterrestrial libertarians have a hard time coping with the reality of planet earth, so I understand.

  • @Dovenpeis Let me take you through the danish system of entitlements.

Starting from the age of 15 you are entitled to education support, if you attend high school or college. The amount you get paid range from about $200 to $1,000 a month tax free. If you're out of work you are entitled to insane unemployment benefits. If you have kids, you are entitled to public child support. At the age of 65 you enter the stage of public pension entitlements. Not enough working people to cover the freeloaders

  • Yea tough in Texas. But I bet he never stole again.

  • the law in texas sucks dick

  • Yesterday, I was kinda bored and I got my paycheck from A&W so I bought 4 mozza burgers and fed them to homeless people under a bridge in Peachland, BC, Canada. I felt awesome.

  • that's awesome bro

  • Awesome! God bless you, man!

  • @KennyZcow I think they wanted alcohol or tobacco instead..

  • A cool dude!

  • at least he can remember the lyrics. He seems like a smart homeless man. He CHOOSES to be homeless.. let him have that right.

  • Get him a record deal! No Im Serious!

  • wow

  • fantastic

    very good song

  • Great video, nice music. Thanks for the insight. You know some people choose this life, it may be rough and tumble but it's also laid back as you'd have no nearly one to answer to (no boss, wife, errands, etc).

  • Yeah there is no one really to answer to but you also have the dangers of the street which can be pretty brutal if you didn't know.

  • Well, that's one way of looking at things. Yes, he's a loser (one "s") but on the other hand how desperate do you have to be to live on the streets? If his thinking isn't very good, then doesn't that mean he's mentally ill?

Animals hide wherever they can when they feel hurt and vulnerable, and will attack you when you try to help them, but only because they feel scared and vulnerable.

WHy shouldn't the same apply to humans?

    I think it does.

  • you make some good points but most of them are just lazy and dont want any responsabilety.i bet if you offered him a house, and he dint have to work and could just play his guitar and drink beer,he would say yes, shit i would say yes

  • Homeless people must be lazy, especially when they're starving half the time right? How do you expect them to work? And so many people are scared of the homeless that they wouldn't even hire them. People treat the homeless as if they are abominations.

There are some homeless people who do work their ass off but they cant afford the high price of living. Some homeless people are there because they were kicked out of foster homes. A high portion of women are homeless because of domestic violence.

  • Homeless people got to have a address to be able to work

  • @synchronicity777 you dumb ass

  • @lmbg77 its hard to find a job with a felony on your record....

  • @lmbg77

    "point blank hes a looser"

    -------

Maybe if you had an education, you'd know the difference between "looser" and "loser", Dumbass.

  • @lmbg77 haha r u serious? have you never been totaly fucked? had absolutley nothing to your name?

no you havent, when thats your situation all you do is blame others.

what makes you not a dick, is who you blame. blame the state, the cops, the govt, cuz we all hate them.

just be glad hes not blaming you asshole.

and when your fucked, dont blame neone but cops, govt, n laws.

  • @lmbg77 Yes your observations are spot on, he will not take responsibility for his situation. I bet if you asked a homeless person who was to blame for their current situation.......most would say the same thing this guy did.

  • this guy should play some blues guitar in bars and shit he is good

  • You can kill someone in England and expect to get 10 years and be out in 8. For attempting to steal a guitar you usually get a caution. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time! Great song by the way.

  • Where is "Homeless in Texas" Part 2?!

  • im going to say wow, thats a long time to be homeless. you know when your by your self its not so bad because you only have to worry about you.but its different when have children being homeless.

  • I believe Mance wrote the song not jimmy reed

  • fuck off BITCH

  • I can respect a person who decides to make life himself instead of letting his own life control him with the chains of jobs and bills and authority. When you die, would you rather say that you can afford to buy a lexus, or that you kept yourself alive with no other human contact for 5 years? I say anyone who can do the latter has lived a life a hundred times better and more interesting than yours or mine. This guy has probably had few regrets in his life it seems.

  • There is a lot to be said about making it with no human contact and little help but I wouldn't go as far as to say that he has no regrets. Maybe he regrets not have a wife and children, a family. I don't think it is totally true that he doesn't have regrets but I do agree with you that only a true survivor can withstand the hardships of a life like this. It takes a hardcore human being to withstand that type of life.

  • I have been homeless several times. I had to sell myself to get out of it, and had to leave the USA altogether. I dropped out. I work honestly. I carry on. I miss my home.

  • I was homeless, this is what I did:

    1. hitched to the countryside to pick fruit,

    2. bought a tent and sleeping bag, shoes,

    3. found a job after picking fruit all summer.

My advice, get out of town (dangerous)!!

  • choosing to camp the way he does is dangerous. the threat of other homeless assaulting you, sickness, disease is worth the price of admission to a life of liesure, not comfort mind you but yes, liesure cause you don't work. you eat the free food, get the free clinic, drink, use drugs, hang out with homeless friends and have your own little clique. you belong. he's a part of something and won't give it up for what we deem normal.

  • Thank God he can afford his beer. I wanna be a musician to but I still have to work.

  • The richest nation on earth, dispensing foreign aid all over the universe to buy loyalty and blackmail global politicians and YET, IT CAN'T HELP IT'S OWN PEOPLE?

    God have mercy on America!!!!

For beginners, CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME!!!

    MERRY X-MAS AMERICA!!!!

  • well the lazy bastard is able to camp out, play guitar, ect... he likes his life and chooses to live the way he is. And don't try to enlighten me or make me see your way!!! Go shit yourself and Ill judge who the hell I want when I want you prick11

  • Get a job you lazy bastard. If I caught this man squatting on my land, I'd jam that guitar up his ass and that harmonica down his throat.

  • you know markv33. whether you believe it or not, that could easily be you. there are alot of good things in your life that you take for granted and the next day, it can all be gone because of life's unexpected twists and turns. don't judge the man. you don't know him and his situation.

  • If i was in charge of a record company i would strike a deal with this man!!! He is just as talented as will nelson.

  • I TOTALY FUCKING AGREE!!! As i sit here and listen to him and watch his persona hes missing an oppourtunity!! I feel like reaching thru my monitor and slapping reality into him!!!

  • Well, You can't blame Bush if America voted for him twice and Bush screews America. After all, people get what they prayed for.

Remember, Becareful what you pray for, you might get it. ISN'T?

  • fascinating.

  • Where's the money that the government for decades deducted in the name of ESSP, 401k plan, capital gain, social security, sales or income taxes from every income and pay check I made? Once the government is accountable for every deducted from my hard earned income, my brain surgery to stop my seizures could be covered with my own tax dollars and could careless for your socialized or private plan to pay for my brain surgery. First, answer the question, where's my tax dollars?

  • The money has gone to Bush and his rich selfich Buddys.

  • Well, You can't blame Bush if America voted for him twice and Bush screews America. After all, people get what they prayed for.

Remember, Becareful what you pray for, you might get it. ISN'T?

  • you really think that. uh it was a setup an inside job. bush is a antichrist. my heart goes out to all the homeless people.

  • NOBODY CAN TAKE ADVANTGE OF YOU OR ABUSE YOU WITH OUT YOUR PERMISSION AND APPROVAL.

  • you sound like every other person. you really think bush won the election fair. ha why dont you do some research before you open your mouth.

  • NOTHING IN LIFE IS FAIR and BUSH DOES NOT HAVE TO WIN FAIR ELECTIONS.

As long as the American people have succumbed to Bush and allowed him to run the nation the way he wants too, that's all it matters. Remember, No body can abuse and take advantage of the American people with out their permission and approval seal. The rest is history. By the way, who cares for the dead fish?

  • its actually not bad for a homeless guy its not like he can afford top of the line music equipment

  • That guitar needs tuning!!!!

  • dude can sing!!!!!!!

  • i was born and raised in texas, and it sucks a big sweaty one.

  • Damn! Ten years hard time for stealing a guitar. You'd think after paying such a price he'd at least learn to play the thing.

  • Texas has the worst human rights issue in America concerning locking people up for petty crimes instead of helping the poor. Texas solution is to lock them up you can see that Texas state is run by the wealthy for the wealthy and racist conservatives it always has been and always will and they call there selves the bible belt bullshit there will be no welcome for them in the kingdom of christ.

  • fuck you texas hatin bitch's!!

  • He's really good. I would love him to play some Johnny Cash.

  • good idea but very hard to watch your video. i agree that many problems would be solved if anyone cared

  • I have the cure for the Homeless and Refugee problem.

AIRHOMES FOR THE HOMELESS. My invention can save lives..Hurricane Katrina, this would have been THE answer for this dire situation. Look out Florida, 2006 will have hurricanes more devistating than any in history!

I've sent my idea off to many companies and Governments. Bottom line, who the hell cares about the Homeless? I DO - DENNY HAMMERTON.

  • Yhis guy is good ,he should be on stage.

  • nice guy

  • 15 yrs for stealing a guitar????????????????????

  • no shit....FUCK TEXAS!!!

  • hell yeah

    texas sucks.

  • I'm really discovering a fascination that I have for the homeless here in Austin and this video only feeds it. I've seen this man a couple of times and he shows up in the video I've attached too.

    A note on your production:

It's a little bland, just using standard WMM items. Try spicing it up a bit, I use the same program if you'd like an example.

  • Thanks for your comments. It's only a consumer camcorder so there's not much I can do with it. I also didn't edit it much, and besidea don't have any real editing software yet, just Windows movie maker. I want to get better equipment when I get the dosh. I was going to use the 16:9 aspect ratio, but these blogs can't handle it. If you have any more ideas please let me know. All comments are much appreciated. I've not really done videos before.

  • Yeah, mine is only a consumer camcorder too, a sony hc21. I also use windows movie maker and while it might not seem like much, you can get some pretty classy results out of it. For a hobbyist, such as myself and I assume you, it's not that bad.

As far as the 16:9 goes, you can try http://www.ourmedia.org. It streams the native files instead of a converted flash file. Much better for keeping stuff the way it was meant to be, but you're not likely to get much feedback.

    continued...

  • I know about ourmedia, but you can't cross post onto a blog very easily, can you?

Plus, it's very time consuming, uploading it all, isn't it?

And who, at the end of the day, actually watches ourmedia stuff?

  • Well, it gives you a direct media link, intead of putting it in a player, but if you know a little HTML it's pretty easy to embed it.

As far as who watches it, well, it's not so popular. I was hoping it was going to explode when I first joined back in june, but no such luck.
