I've been following these guys since I saw Bridge to Baghdad in 03.. glad to see things are going well for them. Wonder what happened to Waleed Rabia?
What the they werent forced out it was their choice to leave Iraq for a better future. 75% the stuff is on the news is total bullshit even the drummer said so
@pintadopedro I would say being threatened with death from iraqi terrosists for their "militant" behavior is forceable enough, don't you? No they were not forced, they could have just as easily stayed in Iraq and awaited their death...so i'd say the news using the word "forced" is quite accurate

playing western-inspired, heavy metal during an intense hussein regime. i dont care what you say, these guys are the one of the most brutal bands ever for doing that
so happy for those guys. Anybody who hasen't seen heavy metal in baghdad watch it. if you have netflix its on the instant stream. btw i just saw that movie last week so this video about them coming to america is news to me. awsome!!
I'm glad they are getting good press but God damn does Fox like to put their own spin on everything. "Western style music." Western music is not the problem. Heavy Metal is. Heavy Metal is illegal under the Baath party (Syria/Iraq), not because of Islam or Arab culture. Also, you can definitely hear an oriental flavor in the lead guitar.
I love the spin Fox News puts on it - "daring to play Western-style music!" People with power/influence/guns thought that they were playing the music of Satan - just like right-wing religious people here in the US - and disapproved of music and musical parties in general. They would've been in danger for playing gagaku, or Indian classical, or anything else - even Arabic music. If they were in additional danger, it was for playing "Satanic" music. Don't try to make it an "us vs. them" thing!
A huge inspiration to me - not as a music - but as a testament to what determined humans can overcome in pursuing their dreams, whatever they are.
From having their gear and practicing space blown up by a SCUD missile to recording an album in the US, and being presented with James Hetfield's guitar..
Even though I play punk, these guys still inspire me to keep picking up my guitar and never quit playing and also never to forget that not all the world is free to be able to jam to whatever style they like. Keep on rocking in the free world guys and one day you'll will be able to laugh at those who threatened you!
Glad that they came to the land of freedom & can continue their music. They are very special people who deserve the world & oh yeah, They Rock!!, their fueled passion for what they've experienced makes their music even better. So happy they are safe.
Good to see FoxNews giving air time to these guys, but did anyone notice that the piece focused on the risks/difficulties the band faced under "Saddam's regime" and then the death threats from extremists in Syria? Those are all true, but if you watch the Heavy Metal In Baghdad documentary, you'll see that they faced the most trouble in Iraq under the US occupation. Not taking sides here, just mentioning what FoxNews left out!
It's me again, I forgot something. Did you see the face of the lead singer when James Hetfield walked up to him and give him his guitar that he autographed, he looked like he was about to shit himself. X) Ha Ha, i'm just kidding, but seriously. When the guys of Acrassicauda met Metallica, it was like a dream come true. Metallica are their idols who inspired them to Play Heavy Metal in a time of dictatoship in Iraq. It would insaine if Metallica asked them to tour with them in the future.
I met a guy in my class who is a muslim and is from the middle east, he is a big time metal head. When i went to his house a week ago, i saw that his room completly covered in posters and pitchers of Heavy Metal bands. Both he and i can't wait till these guys have their first album. The first Metal album form a Iraqi band.
think about it ur home got blown up!!!! man im iraqi and im so lucky to be in a good country now where thers peace but i still have relatives still in iraq that tell me there bombs 24/7
WOW the dumbass american media made it seem like western music was outlawed under Saddam's regime! what a load of BS! it was only after they invaded the country that religious ppl made anything related to cultural expression a crime.
yeah whatever you say ..it wasoutlawed and considered as a crime to play a music in fucking Saddam s regime ..we got our freedom after the invation or the freedom opration
Myamerica100, have you even watched the documentary? Then you would know that they were aloud to play during Saddam's regime the only stipulation is that they had to have a song dedicated to Saddam.... Which they did.
@missbutter81 Yep. They act like we saved them, when really we made it worse, and we were responsible for the mess over there to start with. America fuck yeah!! is an attitude I'm sick to death of.
@pitbullgirl65 I am also sick of the anti american sentiment. There is far more anti american sentiment than pro american sentiment. Its our government's fault not ours...so if you hate it so much gtfo.
dude, these guys are so cool and they actually have good fucking music. most of the music over there is so lame! just a bunch of horns and people yodeling.

Vote in DEC for "Aghori" often and daily on 2010 Project Independent USA metal band contest---and keep metal REAL.
