  • thank you for sharing this wonderful version. what amazing vocals!!! <3

  • @Msaprilconquest And thank you for checking it out here! Oh yes- Mike absolutely nailed the vocals on this!

  • There are a few other cases where Micky sang Nesmith written songs: "Mary, Mary", "Daily Nightly" and "Auntie's Municipal Court" come to mind. Nesmith is a very underrated songwriter. He's written some real gems.

  • @bandcouver Yes, very true. I'll never stop being amazed that Mike's 70's material wasn't bigger on the charts. I think the man was leaps and bounds ahead of the curve in the types of songs and lyrics he was writing during his time in the Monkees. Hearing some of his 70's songs, he seemed to be right in line with what was going on with the music charts, so it's a bit boggling that he didn't break a bit bigger.

  • hey, this is great! i never heard this version before. sorry to see they took down your other monkees uploads.

  • @wallofvideo I always liked the version that came out with Mickey singing lead, but this was one of those rare cases where I ended up liking an alternate version more than what I grew up listenting to. This version is actually the original. I think it has a bit more of a rock edge to it. I read that the reason for having it redone with Mickey is that all the officials involved with putting together the Monkees' albums felt Mike's vocals were fine, but only for album cuts, which is nuts.

  • @tomovox as much as i like mickey's vocals, that really is nuts - - especially since mike wrote the song!
